    If ringo was a bad drummer then why did all the ex-beatles want him to play drums on their albums after the Beatles broke up? Everybody wanted Ringo.

      @regaltip8A 10 лет назад +59

      People that don't rate Ringo as a drummer really are just showing their ignorance. He was a great timekeeper and a musical player - perfect for the beatles. His playing has influenced more drummers than all other drummers combined.

      I think in the history of the Beatles, Ringo only had to replay one or two tracks for just a SECOND take when recording.
      I don't know a single other percussionist that can claim THAT kind of record. He may not have been flashy, but that kind of solid playing record is something almost any percussionist can appreciate and respect.

    Ringo is a better drummer than people give him credit for. Day Tripper and A Day in the Life are prime examples of that.

      74Apollo74 I agree strongly. Some other Beatles songs like While my Guitar Gently Weeps and a lot of songs on Abbey Road show high points of his technique. Even aside from technique, everyone can tell that he's no Keith Moon, but you see videos of Ringo playing in Prince's Trust and with the All Starr band and he's on stage with a large group of talented and enthusiastic musicians. That's incredible too, because music brings us together.

      74Apollo74 Agreed. Just listen to his drumming on "In My Life". Simple, but every single beat makes sense. He actually makes the drum sound lyrical there.

    The people that think Ringo was a bad drummer. What did you expect from 1965? 50 rack toms, double kick bass and hundreds of cymbals? He was perfect. He had a good chemistry with Paul, George, and John.

      +stinkydo0d If they hadn't brought Ringo in and dumped the other guy the Beatles might never have become more than a really good debatable, cover band of classic American rock tunes. the other drummer had a strong voice, Ringo's is a voice his mother loves and Octopi.

    • @Stinkydo0d
      @Stinkydo0d 8 лет назад

      jeb stuart Ringo has a very limited voice. But his beats were better than Pete Best. Pete's groove was just...ugh... I heard a couple demos. His groove didn't have a chemistry with any of the other three.

    • @jebstuart1475
      @jebstuart1475 8 лет назад

      Yeah but back then you always heard "real" musicians claim and Ringo said so himself, he couldn't do a roll, he held the sticks "wrong" etc.,. but that made it more "rock and roll" not stuck in rules.

    Ringo was a fine drummer who fit in perfectly with the Beatles. George said that the group clicked when Ringo arrived, he was the missing piece.
    I wonder if Ringo and Paul ever get tired of talking about The Beatles. Obviously they're both enormously wealthy and famous because of the group, but they're forever locked in the past by fans desperate to hang on to the fantasy of Beatlemania. Who among us is constantly asked to dwell that far in the past?

    The breakup was no doubt inevitable, and for the best. As individuals putting out music, none of them ever equaled The Beatles, but they had advanced too far in different directions to keep balancing each other out, as they did when younger. Thank goodness they're not playing in casino bars.

    It won't give me a link to comment directly, but +Gene Clauson you are absolutely correct. You couldn't imagine any single Beatles song played any other way on the drums. I've played drums for a long time. You don't need to be a whiz bang soloist to play the drums well. In fact, many times those guys tend to overplay. Ringo laid in very nice, well thought out, drumming that fit the song well and let the song shine, instead of his playing. That's what's called being a member of a group.

    I remember those shows back then.
    Lynne and the others did a fantastic job interviewing all the great artists (and i can remember so many great performers on that show) that it made it that much more compelling to watch and listen, even with a Ringo.
    How the eff that show got cancelled, I'll never understand.
    Most intimate settings with some of the greatest bands and artists ever. It was awesome!
    I rarely missed a Sunday afternoon which was when i saw it.
    Probably something politically incorrect ended it.

    Yoko is not the ONLY factor of the Beatles' breakup, but the fact of her being there in studio all the time, for all the recording sessions, definitely was a factor of tension in the group.

  • @meanderer06513

    Actually - Ringo walked out during the recording of "The Beatles" in 1968. In his absence, Paul played the drums on "Back in the USSR" and "Dear Prudence". While he was away, the rest of the group continued with other recordings where drums weren't required.
    You're thinking about George, leaving during the "Get Back" project. After he left, the rest of the band basically sat around, noodling on their guitars and talking about possibly finding a replacement for him.

    @AnnieKCleary: Clearly he's being overly kind. He and Paul did not want the breakup, though the situation became intolerable even for Paul who had worked the hardest to keep the group together. John wanted the breakup, or so he thought in the moment; and George was pretty fed-up, though he probably could have been convinced to stay if it were less acrimonious and he were offered a more equal stake in the band. As for Yoko, her constant presence was at the insistence of John.

    Yoko was the extra pressure that broke them up in a harder manner than they would have otherwise. If you know Yoko's history you can't deny she was always conniving. Once she hooked John and she was his "next big thing" of course he wanted her around. And the other 3 certainly resented that. At the most I see they would have taken time off from each other, done some solo stuff and then reformed. Even WITH the way it happend they almost did around the time of "Venus and Mars" but Yoko blocked it.

    @jpsmart59 That's not what happened at all. They were all at Ringo's house one day and Ringo left a pot of chicken noodle soup on the stove. John walked into the kitchen and said "I'm eating the soup". Paul was in the other room and thought he said "I'm leaving the group". Paul said "Well, if he's leaving, I'm leaving". Then they all sued each other. There was a mix-up somehow with the paperwork and they all accidently sued themselves.

    @goodfellas92 To say that Yoko contributed to the breakup is like saying life contributed to the breakup. Yoko became a huge part of John's life and the only reason Yoko might have encouraged John to go solo is because she knew he wanted to. I think she only wanted what was best for him. I'm glad they broke up when they did. I think they all wanted to break up, there's no way Yoko could have any hand in that.

    Actually (again!) - John had told the rest of the group (in Sept 1969) that he was leaving The Beatles. Allen Klein was negotiating a big deal with Capitol Records at the time, so he and Paul both suggested that John doesn't make a public announcement at the time, so everybody kept it quite. In January of 1970, The Beatles got together to record "I Me Mine", since it was going to be in the movie "Let It Be". But John wouldn't come back, as far as he was concerned, he'd already left the band.

    I would have thought Paul would have wanted the Beatles to continue, perhaps after a brief period apart to do solo projects. Isn't the demise of the Beatles the reason why Paul was so depressed and down during that period. Surely John, and more surely George, was glad to see the band disolve. The Beatles breakup also gave Ringo a chance to step out into the spotlight more. He became a singer with entire albums of songs instead of primarily a drummer that received ONE token, showcase track per LP

I don't think I was ever really aware of what bad drumming was until I heard Best playing on a Beatles retrospective show that used to be on weekly on the local NPR station in Sarasota, FL in the early 2000s.

    Actually, it was probably more that Ringo was the one who kind of broke up the tension in the room because nobody had any arguments with him vs each other rather than any kind of inability to work without him. It's not as though Ringo had to attend every recording session and they even toured without him for a couple weeks in '64 with Jimmie Nicol substituting. I think it was a bit like when Billy Preston would sit in with them. That's when they were on their best behavior.

    Ringo ALWAYS defended the "Yoko" thing as far as the breakup.

  • @jfva
    @jfva 14 лет назад

    Everyone blame yoko but the truth is that it wasn't the only reason of their break up. If you see the let it be sessions you could see arguing Paul and George saying "if you want me to play I'll do it, I'll do whatever you want" or something like that. Paul was bossy after Brian's death and that is why the three of them except Paul wanted a diferent manager than Eastman. There where many reasons of their break up not only the fact that yoko was present there everytime.

  • @linneau
    @linneau 14 лет назад

    I think Ringo pretty much was right on about the break up. Everybody blames Yoko but I think she was just one aspect of their dissolvement. After hearing many interviews and reading biographies i postulate that they all wanted to go their seperate ways. McCartney and Lennon had creative differences obviously but even Harrison wanted to pursue his style of music which he rarely had a chance to write. Maybe Ringo was the only upset one? lol

    There's a story that when George walked out of the Get Back project, John said "F--k him. We'll get Clapton". George brought Eric in to play guitar on "While My Guitar Gently weeps" and John was very impressed with him. He asked Clapton to join his "Plastic Ono Band" and Clapton did join them on the "Live Peace In Toronto 1969" live album.

    Wasn't George going behind Ringo's back with Ringo's wife Maureen at that time?

    @JimBobJoeDave But I think one has to consider that his personality and lack of ego, really meshed in the group. He was a better drummer than was Pete Best, and he was a creative member of the team, offering opinions and support as it was requested. My feeling is, without Ringo, the Beatles might have been just another band, devoid of personality, with a few hit songs. But who's to say? Ultmately, thank God he was there.

      Are you sure it wasn't Paul that broke up the Beatles with his secret record recordings for his solo album?

    • @tessjuel
      @tessjuel 3 года назад

      @@bennymoore3594 It's amazing how people still argue about this. According to all four Bealtes members, Lennon was the one who technically called the quit but they all felt the same way so there was no disagreement about it at all. They did argue a bit about how to manage their copyrights and such and the other three weren't quite happy when McCartney used the breakup to promote his first solo album but all of that happened well after they had decided to split.

    Off all the interviews of Ex Beatles I have watehed.....It isnt just one thing that broke up the Beatles....It was a buch of things, they were just growing apart, all amazing tallents that wanted to take their talents further creativly and go their own way.....Brian Epstiens passing was a major blow to them, and YES FOLKS Paul did try to take over, and that did not sit well with the other Beatles. I have heard more then one Beatle say that in interviews.....None of us will know all reasons.

  • @bendog73

    Imagine if they had of carried on? Imagine what they would have been like by about 1975? No, it doesn't bear thinking about. Whoever was 'responsible' for them breaking up, it was the right time. They didn't go stale and left a solid body of work. You can't say that about The Stones who have gone on and on and on and on and on etc etc etc.....

    I don't think John wrote that song as an anthem putting himself above everyone else. I think it was more of a statement on the way the world works. And we are all a part of that world whether we think it's right or not.
