The Nike Metcon 9 versus the STR/KE MVMNT Haze Trainer is kind of like a David versus Goliath match-up.
On one hand, you have a massively popular cross-training shoe with sub-par performance [the Metcon 9] from a corporation, and on the other hand, you have a well-rounded and arguably stronger shoe [Haze Trainer] from a smaller scrappier brand.
In this Metcon 9 versus Haze Trainer comparison, me and Raechel break down which shoe we like the best and cover which you should buy.

Don't get us wrong, the Nike Metcon 9 is okay, but it's not as good as it could be especially when you compare it to older Metcons and other models.
The Haze Trainer has been consistent with its performance and has a really well-rounded performance in the gym. Granted, it isn't a flawless model either.
Before buying either of these shoes, it's a good idea to cross-reference your training style with each shoe's construction and sizing.

Doing great work guys! Appreciate all that you do. I will say, as a Canadian, another huge bonus for us with the Haze is pricing. After currency conversion regular retail for Metcon9 is over $200CAD, Haze (Strike being Canadian company)… $160CAD and free shipping, or clearance colours for $112CAD. Only downside, we still suffer from having to pay return shipping to Strike.
Great point! Thank you!
I only do strength training, weight lifting , sometimes HIIT and cardio (treadmill ,bike and efx)
Would you recommend rapidmove or dropset trainer 2 or anything under 120 dollars , and any shoe for only running purpose for just street running/ group running )
I have a wide-foot !
Love your content ❤
I'd give the Rapidmove a try, honestly! Should work and you can prob find hem for a good deal!
loved the video. Haze Trainer all day everyday
This was a fun one! I’m team Haze Trainer (if you couldn’t tell from the video) 😜
We need your thoughts on the RAD ONE now…
@@thatfitfriend YES! I have those thoughts brewing!
Look like a great couple.
Not a couple, bruv 😂
@@thatfitfriendwe ship this. Great chemistry. Everyone wins.
@@oliverallen5324 smh.
@@thatfitfriendlol what's the best value trainer or trainers? For longevity?🤔 Keep the great work up.
@@Ricky-tr2hd Hmm...These days, I'd go Born Primitive Savage 1 or look into older models like the Reign 5 or Dropset Trainer 1!
Can likely find all of them around that price point if not lower. Thank you!
Hey Jake. Thanks for the work you do! Question for ya. Looking for cross training shoe I can use for the fire academy and also CrossFit. My feet are all over the place! I wear 9.5 in onclouds. 9EE in red wing boots and obviously I have wide feet. All black in color is preferred. Also I like the feeling of being stable in a shoe and not lifting and my heel feeling like it’ll slip out of my shoe. Thanks in advance!
Go Born Primitive Savage 1 or VIKTOS Core Gym/Core 2, or GORUCK Ballistic Trainer!
Thanks. Gonna check out born primitive.
@thatfitfriend i have watched most of your video and confused between metcon 5, air zoom tr 1 and the dropset trainer 2 irrespective of my workout or asking me anything please just tell be only 1 which should I buy
If you have a heavy lifting bias, go Dropset Trainer 2. If you blend HIIT with moderate lifting, go Free Metcon 5! :)
Hi jake, anything similar to the strike haze that is shipped from within Europe?
They should be same same!
fit friend has a new little friend
Yo what would you recommend for wide feet, weight training first and then running on a treadmill for 15-30 mins at fast pace and DURABLE TOO???
Inov-8 F-Fly!
Hello, Jake. I was hoping you could give me some fit advice. I normally wear a men’s 12.5 in the Reebok Nano. I purchased the Strike Haze (thanks for the link) in 12.5 and I’m not sure about the length. I can’t tell if the shoe is too short or if my toes will touch the front of the shoe during workouts. I don’t have that issue with other shoes.
Should I purchase the 13 and if so, will it be that much of a difference in length? Or should I stick with the 12.5 and try to break them in a bit? I haven’t worked out in them yet and have only tried them on. If they are really true to size, then I think they will be ok. I may not be used to the way the shoe hugs my foot.
If you have less than a pinky’s width of room at the end of your toe box, then I’d return them and go 13
If not, then I think they’ll stretch and break in and you’ll be fine! For some, the Haze break in can be a slow burn but the knit does typically adapt to your foot with enough wear.
Thank you for the advice. I think I will size up. 👍
So I just got my Metcon 9……for the look😂 I believe they’ll stay very new in a long while cuz I don’t do much weight lifting.
So far having Reign 6 for daily wear per your advice and I like them🤩
Heck yeah - love hearing that!
The 9 is by far the worst Metcon ever for CrossFit! Even if you are only running 500m in the Metcon, it's an horrible experience!
Shin splints awaiting…
@@thatfitfriend Nano 4 vs TYR would be a good one!
@@thatfitfriendwell it’s that way since the metcon 6 and the hyperlift introduction I guess, the free metcon series being the true cross training shoes brought by Nike. I’ve never used any nanos or metcons or dropsets for running, I think the best option is just to switch and get into specific running shoes when you have to, I have shoes for jump rope (nike hyperace 2 shoes, awesome because of that air zoom unit at the forefoot), cheap shoes for running (well cheap, Decathlon makes ridiculously advanced shoes for the price you pay) shoes for weightlifting (metcon 7) and shoes for hiit cardio like the Nano X2/X3 or Dropset 1. Yeah it ain’t cheap all in all, but I think using Metcon 9 for lifting and then switching to dropset, free metcon or nano like shoes for anything else is the best thing to do IMHO.
