Not only does he look like my late father, he plays piano just like him! The song is definitely a song my Daddy would play.....his very fav was Girl from Ipenema. This brings back memories of waking up Saturday morning to him playing piano or trumpet. RIP to both these Kings!
Love that ending -- what a great showman and brilliant piano player. I'll be attending his weekly workshop in New York in August for two sessions. Age 87 and he's still at it.
Wow man treasure that experience!!!! Use your mental camera, don't waste a second worrying about shooting video or taking selfies!!!! Have fun and congrats!
When Sonny Stitt did Ray's Idea with Mr. Harris, Mr. Stitt, as great as he was, sounded more heartfelt and free than l had ever heard him. Such a beautiful personality. Thank God he is still with us.
Back when Barry was in a good pianistic and creative shape. He made seasoned musicians like Bob Cranshaw and Grady Tate smile with approval. And that is better than any Grammy Awards!
Cody Copland - Still is what?......He is but a pale shadow of his former self. You have to admit that if you are honest. Age knows no mercy and has no respect. That's a sad fact of life, my friend! And facts don't care about your feelings!
Have to disagree my brother. I just spent some time with him and he was working something out on Yesterdays. I'd never heard it before. It was Beautiful. I accept that his left hand hasn't been the same since the stroke in 93 but in terms of his creativity, he's at his best right now.
Nate Smith, LPC-- i may not live that long. We respect and love Barry. But to say he's as good as ever is to disrespect and underrate his playing when he was at the top form.
@@MingusDynastyy which makes it even more impressive... he managed to make all his phrases warm even with hardened fingers. Even the small samples and scales he plays during lessons sound so warm. Just go watch his series with Eli Yamin and compare their touches.
Barry Harris as brilliant as ever. I hate to say it but I thought the bass player was a little slack. It sounded as though he wasn't listening to Barry enough and at a few points didn't swing with him. Nonetheless, a truly great performance from a truly great musician - thanks for sharing!
Since you can't comment on Barry teaching videos for some reason i am commenting on this one . I think that Barry is one of the most amazing teachers but he is very close minded on his teaching. He also tells his student to play his way and that is not being a good teacher a good teacher is suppose help you be a better you. Give you the tools to fly like a bird. Not tell you exactly how to play. He actually said that everybody is playing jazz wrong. He talked bad about Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans. like i said he is a brilliant person to learn from and great ideas. But Jazz is not all about bebop.
This is very very sad. This the 5th time you tube has altered what i have said in the comment section. I never ever say fly like a bird. They added that. And that is not the first time you tube as change what i have said. Watch out people big brother is watching you. Also the sad thing is that i am not saying anything derogatory.
Sorry Mr.Harris I'm just not impressed with the dynamics of your piano playing...I think Bill Evans showed more dynamics in tone and chord progression and tempo as well....

This wonderful musician has just passed on. May He Be Most Happiest In Paradise! ♥

How was the workshop???
@ Haha, I can hear Barry Harris speaking as I read this.
seems like a homage to Bud Powell at the end
When he looked back to the band and smiled at 1:34, I smiled back.
That was a “oops” from him. Drums and bass saved it though. It happens when you’re not trying to be safe but reaching for stuff.
@@JazzManLaf I see what you mean. He almost had it but slowed down a little too much. I still smiled right along.
I smiled back too Lol
@@JazzManLaf I don't see any oops moment there. Music sounded okay to me.
@@JazzManLaf Yes but in the end what matters is the music he makes is very good AND he is having a REAL fun with improvisation

But then came covid...
@@kartmannchoi9709 That disease took out so many people. Devastating. 😥
Barry is a national treasure......brilliant
Music like this is healing.
I learned everything I know about jazz from this man. What an incredible teacher!
So beautiful. And yes---so much love for &n transmission of the spirit ofBud Powell. Thank you for posting and Thank You Barry Harris !!!
This is heartfelt. So heartfelt.
Barry's gotta a lota love for Bud Powell
Don't we all?
Also my impression - and one should have
just sounds like Bud's recording
I’m feeling myself lucky to enjoy the music from the jazz masters in this era.
His chords so clean
The greatest jazz man alive today!

You are so loved dear sir.
Barry Harris is awesome !
what a blessing Mr. Harris
They are enjoying it ! That's real instruments playing ... they are beyond pro.
Solid work by Bob Cranshaw and Grady Tate, Wow!
Rest In Peace maestro. We miss you so much
Brilliant. The groove is emphasized.
2:10 what a great solo break
All tritone subs
Love this! A real master. Barry Harris RIP.
barry harris just kills me.
Immortal maan, what an artist.
I often wonder how do non-musicians comprehend what BARRY is actually doing on that piano? The chord structures are other worldly. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️😇😇
I love his playing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🍺🍺🍺
genius....great amazing men
A man who knows his craft! You know them when you see 'em
*hear
Barry sounds like a swingin romantic era pianist
I love his resolve chords
Awesome 👌
Rest in eternal peace 🙏🙏
So good!

vova47 some people are lucky when they age, like Horowitz. Barry just wasn't. I'd be lucky if I even lived anywhere that long.

I like the ''this is easy'' grin at the camera
Knows he just knows
Incredible block chord improve. The whole thing is monumental imo.
Yes, he was a genius with the block cords.
He aint dead
Que pianista!!!!! un genio... memorable... fantastico...
hermoso que swing
WOW
genius as usual..
he's playing on a Hamburg Steinway but its voiced too high like a Yamaha..
Bass man is superb.
that's exactly what I was thinking. It sounds like a Yamaha
Agreed. Far "too bright." Especially for Barry. And he has a real soft touch which usually translates into a very warm attack in his playing. : /
@@j_wah3084 Soft? Barry had hands of stone lol

Barry Harris with Bob Cranshaw on bass & Grady Tate on drums
List the names of the only 2 other musicians.
Grady Tate on drums and Bob Cranshaw on bass.
I love his Barry absolute master!
(Is his Piano out of tune?)
Doc. Harris.
Vova47 where are your videos?
Barry didn't simply play the piano. His fingers danced on the keys.
featuring Louis Farrakhan on bass
No!
LOL😂!!
God, I hope not. LOL!
Very good, but the "pathos" of Bud Powell is another thing.
He sounds like a Pixar movie. He knows all of the good licks and what they’re gonna sound like before he plays them.
Il pianista non mi da' nessuna emozione!Oscar Pererson e' di un altro pianeta!!!!

In HIS world it is...and only his successors will truly carry his torch. Everyone else lucky enough to be taught by him will just have his influence!

I’ve heard RUclips do that to me too. I do write a lot of controversial things.
Reading your comment, first thing came to mind was, good that you‘re not able to comment on Barry‘s teaching videos.
Barry is a great pianist, but some credit must go to the composer Chester Babcock (Jimmy Van Heusen).

I see what you did there. Had to mention Bill knowing Barry's dislike of his style hahaha
