You gotta love that the initial concept was just that strong, to the point that they were able to keep iterating on it for successive TMNT shows/movies.
The road ready mutations are harder to find than the standard mutations. The road ready mutations are more complex to transform but they have less articulation.
Lol, thank you! To be fair, I actually learned the correct way to mutate the vintage Leo from someone who commented on my short video a while back... 😃
It does. The difference between the re-released version and the original version is in the belt. The re-released version doesn't have the letter initial on the belt and the skin color is also different.
Haha, same here! I have a few toys that are older than me (Lego sets and minifigures, TMNT action figures, etc.). They really are collectible, though, and some hold the monetary value better than the others.
I saw a reissue of the original version on target for $15. I wasn’t sure if I should buy it or not, because it doesn’t even store its weapons in pet turtle mode, neither did the modern versions which is weird because weapon storage is a standard for modern transformers.
Yeah, the reissue is not that much different from the original version, unfortunately. I really hope they would make more mutating toys, maybe off of Mutant Mayhem. That would be so cool!
The re-released version is almost identical to the original version. The legs (in ninja turtle mode) can move. They have 1 point of articulation each. In pet turtle mode, the flimsy hind legs can also move a little bit. I am not sure they are good for stop motion though...
I remember having the 2004 version of Raph as a kid. Never occurred to me that this toy concept was such an obvious idea that it'd show up even earlier than that AND persist through the generations. I was just a Transformers fan And a Turtles fan and thought "oh sweet, both at the same time."
The thing with Ninja Turtles toys is that they're often very easy to make since under normal circumstances, the four of them all have almost identical proportions. with Rise having them all be so radically distinct from one another it makes a toy like this impractical to produce since making it show-accurate isn't feasible.
hear me out, when you see them before they are mutated, they are tortoises. i own a tortoise and know the difference. tortoise dont have webbed feet but claws instead, not only that. the features they have far more similar features to tortoises
I remember these toys, i had Michelangelo and my brother had Raphael. I was always surprised to see these old toys with new packaging based off modern iterations of TMNT.
Hey, TMNT fans! Have you seen all variants of TMNT Mutatin Leo?
Ay ay Like This Beatles So Cool pon You Go😊
You gotta love that the initial concept was just that strong, to the point that they were able to keep iterating on it for successive TMNT shows/movies.
Exactly! It's such a great concept for action figures!
You know, in another universe, those “Mutating Turtle” toys would have had a Transformer Crossover version of them as a Maximal
Hahaha, yup! 😆
They’re Transformers.
They are the Autobots' latest additions! 😅
"Leonardo Maximize"
Always wanted the original when I was a kid.
They are on eBay and they are not that expensive (good quality used condition). Brand new ones could be a bit pricey.
I’m a fan! I had a couple of these when I was a kid!
Awww yea!!!
I always wanted to have one of these as a kid. They came with a ooze canister with green slime so you could roleplay their mutation.
That's right! The 2003 version came with a ooze canister. Fun times! 😁
The road ready mutations are harder to find than the standard mutations. The road ready mutations are more complex to transform but they have less articulation.
Yes, I agree! The Road Ready Mutations are so hard to transform! It often frustrates me, lol 😆
1:21 did anyone see him fall
Hahah good catch! 😁
FINALLY!! Someone that actually knows how to “mutate” the vintage Leo Mutations figure correctly lol!!
Lol, thank you! To be fair, I actually learned the correct way to mutate the vintage Leo from someone who commented on my short video a while back... 😃
@@thetoynerdco that’s what a true fan does! Subbed!!😎❤️
@@Exar_Kun thank you so much!
Are there the same versions of those but for the other turtles?
Yes, there are! I just happened to collect mostly Leonardo 😅
Did the 2nd release not have the sides that rotated and tucked under his buckle?
It does. The difference between the re-released version and the original version is in the belt. The re-released version doesn't have the letter initial on the belt and the skin color is also different.
@@thetoynerdco I didn't mean the re-release sorry I meant the 2nd lot that got released. From the different cartoon than the 80's
i still have my 1990 Donnie, funny to know that he is older than me
Haha, same here! I have a few toys that are older than me (Lego sets and minifigures, TMNT action figures, etc.). They really are collectible, though, and some hold the monetary value better than the others.
yeah, that may be but i keep him for nostalgic reasons @@thetoynerdco

@TheCludo yeah, me too! Hence, my TMNT collection haha...
The 2004 version has by far the best proportions.
Yeah, I agree. The body is more proportionate compared to the other ones.
I saw a reissue of the original version on target for $15. I wasn’t sure if I should buy it or not, because it doesn’t even store its weapons in pet turtle mode, neither did the modern versions which is weird because weapon storage is a standard for modern transformers.

@@thetoynerdco Funny thing is, the tmnt mutations reissues are cheaper than g1 reissues
@@trollsome I know, right??
@@thetoynerdco probably because g1 transformers were harder to find
Do the re release have movable legs for something like stop motion?
The re-released version is almost identical to the original version. The legs (in ninja turtle mode) can move. They have 1 point of articulation each. In pet turtle mode, the flimsy hind legs can also move a little bit. I am not sure they are good for stop motion though...
@@thetoynerdco oh, thanks. Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I was on a cruise. Still am, but I’m about to get off.
@@Fantastical_Stop_Motions Hope you are having an awesome and safe trip!
Can the swords actually fit inside of the shells?
No, sadly, there is not enough room to store the weapons...

I was just a Transformers fan And a Turtles fan and thought "oh sweet, both at the same time."
Yesss! What a great concept, right? And it all started back in the 1990s...
I'm surprised they still have the 1992 molds.
Yeah, I can't believe it has been 32 years! I am hoping they would do Mutant Mayhem version of mutating toys soon!
@@thetoynerdco 32 years holy shit they're the same age as me then lol
I feel the manufacturers don't like or just don't acknowledge Rise as there is no version for Leo from Rise.
Yeah, Rise was like non existent, unfortunately. Both the show and the toy line were very short-lived...
The thing with Ninja Turtles toys is that they're often very easy to make since under normal circumstances, the four of them all have almost identical proportions. with Rise having them all be so radically distinct from one another it makes a toy like this impractical to produce since making it show-accurate isn't feasible.
I always thought those figures had more show accurate proportions
are the ninja turtles turtles or tortoise???
They're turtles. Why would they be tortoises? Then they'd be the Teenage Mutant Ninja Tortoises
hear me out, when you see them before they are mutated, they are tortoises. i own a tortoise and know the difference. tortoise dont have webbed feet but claws instead, not only that. the features they have far more similar features to tortoises

The sound of plastic clacking is like music to my ears
Awwww yeaaaa, I agree!!!
It's like if Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a Transformer
That's right! 😄
Real buzz
The original is much better. 🐢
The original started it all 😁. I love the varieties for sure, and I hope they will make the Mutant Mayhem version of these mutating TMNT!
And their 40th anniversary since the very first black and white comic books by Mirage.
Awesome tmnt collection ❤😊
Thank you 😀

Haha, they are not that bad! 😬
I like leo in 2012
Yeah, me too! The transformation is also pretty smooth!
Personally I'd prefer the funny goofy turtle figure.
Haha, which one is that?
The 1992 Leonardo in its
average turtle mode.

The 2012 one is the worst looking one becuase how the front legs look so different from the back ones.
Yeah, the 2012 version has the biggest front legs... lol
後ろ足細っ笑
Haha yeah, the hind legs are skinny and weird 😆
Nice video but I can’t be the only one who’s not impressed with this toy
It was impressive when the first version came out in the early 90s... I remember thinking: no way it could do that! 😁
