  • Bonsai wiring can be an effective method to enhance a deciduous tree image. It can be tricky to accomplish this due to the often brittle and prone to wire scarring nature of these leafy trees.
    In this video I use bonsai wire on a stewartia as I give it its first styling.
    I discuss in depth my approach to the styling of deciduous trees, wiring techniques, and my thoughts on several other bonsai subjects.
    This is my longest duration video to date and there are plenty of opportunities to discuss more in the comments section.
    I look forward to hearing from you!
    To see more bonsai goodness, head to BonsaiEcho.com and BE Inspired.
    I'll see you there!

      Sounds like she and I are of the same mind with the cut paste.
      I do tend to have a good time talking with y’all. It’s making me want to do live sessions even more. 🙂

    One of the perks that I get working in a nursery is collecting seedlings that have grown as weeds. Currently working on a forest of these little guys. Haven't flowered yet but they are only 3 years old.

    Hiya. One of the most enjoyable and educational bonsai videoing have seen in a long time. Often I come away from your videos with much more learned information than others that are designed as teaching videos. I believe that there are several reasons for this, not least of which is the “every man” manner in which you present. Also, your vocabulary is very good but mostly it is the enjoyment factor. One always, always, always learns more and more quickly if one is enjoying oneself at the same time. Would you please consider adding a little section on the end of each video where you give an update on one, two or several ongoing projects of yours that may not have enough content to make an entire video but will keep fans that are curious (like me) what is happening in your growing grounds as the season progresses? Many thanks for all you do and are continuing to do. I am very happy to see you back after your brief hiatus.

    I’m relatively new to bonsai and like your idea of not having a front. I turn my trees weekLy so the sun gets on all sides.

    Thanks to you, I started checking all sides whenever I prune, wire or re-style. Very good new habit and def makes trees look better.

      Even if a tree is designed with one viewing angle in mind, checking all sides still helps create depth in the design. It’s good stuff!

    Greetings from South Australia. I really like your ethos on tree "styling" I've long been a fan of the more " imperfections" my tree has , the more I Love it, because as you say that is how it will grow, and it adds to It's charm and appeal( for me anyway) I love your trees and this one has soo much character. Thank you for your insights and great videos

      Working with Bonsai trees constantly reminds me of my favorite quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
      “Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.”
      I’ve trained myself to look for the presence of that beauty as opposed to the absence of it. Let me tell you... life is a grand journey because of it😊.

    Glad to have you back and feeding us some more bonsai inspiration. I've been growing some material from seed and am now on my first airlayering projects. By the way, I live in New Mexico where the Bonsai hobby is not very much supported, but Bonsai has so captivated me that I decided to obtain a kiln and began creatingmy own Pots for this incredible ancient art. I appreciate your efforts to bring your videos to us. Thank you. Karl

    Nice work and good presentation. If it was my tree, I would have removed the top straight part of the main trunk and considered a new trunk line with one of the lower branches. May be another tree can be obtained by air layering the top part. Just a thought.

    • @BonsaiEcho
      @BonsaiEcho  4 года назад

      I’d considered that and may still do it. It’s quite bare in that section of trunk right now.

    Hi. Thank you for your informative video. One thing I like to see is your positioning of branches as shown about 18:40 into the video. As a beginner I always struggled with branches like this which I call 'Frog's Legs' as they are positioned like a frog about to jump. You showed how to pull them out of that scenario and I believe you called it 'giving the branches more space'. The 'Frog's Legs' position is not very eye pleasing and you have shown how to overcome it. Many thanks

    • @BonsaiEcho
      @BonsaiEcho  3 года назад

      Many of the branches on that tree are challenging and likely considered “flaws” in the traditional bonsai sense. This is an older plant and instead of seeking and destroying these “flaws”, I like to work with what is there to highlight the interesting journey the tree has been on. Sometimes a branch doesn’t work out and I just ribbit out, but I was glad to be able to work this one out. 😁
      Glad you found a bit of inspiration here. Thanks for stopping by.🤙
