Southern Hills is such a beautiful piece of property. Everything is so large and grand. Even better in person.

I grew up in Tulsa until around 6 . My parents have been to a golf event there before . Sometime in the 80s

Ive always like Retief Goosens smooth swing and calm demeanor. Fellow pros knew it was only a matter of time before he won majors.

This is great, glad I stumbled on this. I was there as a 14-year old and walked right in when Mickelson made the hole in one, the first thing I saw. Watched the entire goose and Brooks playoff as well. It was unbelievably HOT outside

Hey, funny enough, I was there, too. ;) Was there for 3 or 4 of the rounds, including the playoff. Didn't get to go to the Final Round because my family members took the tickets. Was there when it started pouring rain and the rest of the round was cancelled. Perhaps still the most famous event to be held in Tulsa in the new Millennium. Stood about 3 feet from Tiger when he teed off at one of the holes. Was there 6 years later at the 18th green when Tiger redeemed himself and won the PGA at Southern Hills. Now, THAT year was hot (it was August, instead of June, after all). Can't wait until the tournament returns to Tulsa in either 2025 or 2030. It will be one of those years, for sure. Hopefully, they will play it in May, like they did last year when Bethpage Black hosted the PGA. Weather would be much more comfortable, compared with August.

This blah looking 2001 version of the golf course is miles behind the 2018 restoration. Hanse is a miracle worker

“The Goose” has an AMAZINGLY GRACEFUL golf swing. I am probably biased as we have the same initials.
I believe Retief’s swing is even better and more consistent than Ernie Els.

Retief's swing in this era was pure class. It continued to be great until his back issues. He nearly won 3 US Opens in 5 years if he would have been in a better final round pairing. 54 hole leader and plays with Cinderella Story Jason Gore putting up an 84. They were put on the clock early on and that destroyed any pace the final grouping could muster. If Retief is playing with Woods or Michael Campbell, he wins by several shots.
I've always held this swing as a model to copy. It is just so athletic and simple looking. Free arm swing and a powerful turn.

Early 2000's golf highlights, basically the odd full shot and a shit load of putting. Thank god things have improved.

What Stewart Cink and everyone else don't realize is that Goosen doesn't necessarily three-putt if Cink makes his. The circumstances change, Goosen's first attempt is a few seconds earlier or a few seconds later, thoughts are different (Goosen doesn't have the memory of Cink missing, etc.). The whole event changes. In fact, it would only be said that Cink cost himself a chance for the playoff if Goosen had three-putted before Cink's attempt. Those are the stone-called facts that nobody has ever brought up.

Another fact is that no tournament is won until the last putt is down. You ALWAYS try your hardest because you NEVER know what will happen next. Cink making his putt puts the pressure on Goosen to get down in two, which is not a given.

Considering what happened 8 years later, I don't feel the least bit sorry for Cink.
