Thank you for sharing - something I've always wondered about Calvinism, there must be some who believe it's true but also believe they're not part of the elect. What a terrifying thought. Glad you found your way out.

Friend, Abraham never had faith, he believed as demons did but true faith has no recipe since it is not a work it’s a gift. He knew the gospel but never believed it, I was in that situation searching a way to have faith when God in his mercy gave me faith to believe. My advice to you: believe the gospel, nothing more matters, remember to believe you have to believe there is no other way around it

This is a sticky issue with Calvinists, and they’re well aware of it. The idea that grace is limited to a few is in direct conflict with the inclusion Jesus taught, and with his command to actively evangelize. What do you say? You may already be a winner, or not? A clue is how you’re doing financially. If you’re well-off, that’s an indication that you’re one of the elect, no matter how you got your money. It’s really been an enabler of the prosperity gospel.

Wait what? If you are rich (or at least not poor?) You are saved? (Or at least the indicators point that way?) ... I think that is in direct conflict with what that Jesus guy was teaching.

the last part is a strawman to be fair. prosperity gospel thought might think that but the typical (esp fundie) calvinist point of view is you're getting your riches from the devil. the bible specifically said that christians would have a harder time than others

@@abaddon2148 Now that you bring that up, I know there are Calvinists who expect hardship and austerity as part of their Christian experience. I think both these things can be true, depending on where the church is, and the demographic it serves.

Revelation talks about multitudes in heaven from all over the Earth. So the saved are more than just a few. Second, we don't know who the elect are and will be. We evangelize because Jesus said to do it. People will hear and believe. Knowing who the elect are is known only to God.

How can you deconstruct what was never constructed? You guys are in a very sad situation, you really think you once believed. Wake up, faith is more than a rational recognition, true faith involve all that we are, our conscience, character, mind, and soul. it’s a supernatural quality given by God, that He himself protects and strengthens. ”I AM the resurrection and the life whoever believe in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26

If I were brought up in a ‘works for salvation’ environment, I’d feel the same. Thankfully, we are saved by simply believing that Jesus, the son of God, died for our sins then rose from the dead. That’s what I trust in, not Calvinistic systems.

Christianity cannot be based on feelings alone. It has to surpass everything else you’ve experienced in your life. How? I don’t know. But here is a study about how certain people feel a certain way about religious experience. The first conclusion is that prayer is what it’s supposed to maintain the feeling. The second is that if you’re doing doing something that separates and changes your brain activity from that experience, like messing with your dopamine levels it will change that feeling you’re looking for too. Remember we’re supposed to be these hybrids of spiritual being and animal.
Here’s the name of the study:
    neuroanatomical variability of religiosity
Pull it from the ncbi site

I think this issue has been complicated beyond all reason. And if it's that complicated, it's not from God. God's directions to us are simple: "call on the Name of Jesus, and you will be saved". That's it. And nothing added to it. Then, if I want to be the change in the world around me, then I make a serious commitment to chasing after Jesus, asking Holy Spirit to change me into His image, and asking for His strength to be the love the world needs.
2nd one is very simple too: "Love God, Love your neighbor, Love yourself". I can't do that. My flesh starts yelling at me. I want to stay up all night and play video games. So, am I loving myself, or am I just indulging myself? To truly commit to my own well being, I need to get to bed at a time that works for me. Now I'm back to asking Holy Spirit for strength and whatever else I need, to love myself. I was abused as a child; I was taught to hate myself, so this is a huge one for me. Do I love my neighbor? Well, only on the good days, when they're not being too loud, fighting, or just being obnoxious. I need help with that one too. Do I love God? I think so, but how often do I turn it into "just fix me" instead of doing the emotional work I need to do? Jesus said, "if you love Me, you will do what I'm telling you to do". Well, that's a big one.
So my answer to this issue is that feelings lie. Feelings are based on decisions I made before I had any understanding of who God is. If I don't feel like I'm forgiven, I'm listening to old tapes that tell me I'm not good enough. I can choose to believe what is written in the Bible, or I can choose to follow how I feel.
And, there is only one church, worldwide. Every believer belongs to that one church. Human being split the differences in their beliefs into fundamentalist, charismatic, or a denomination, etc. etc. That's the same old lie that started the building of the Tower of Babel. We can reach God through our own efforts. So God gave each of them different languages, and no one could communicate well enough to finish their building project. Nowadays, it's been warped into "believe exactly the same as they do, or you won't get to heaven". The devil loves the fighting and the confusion that follows.
And that brings us right back to Scriptures "they will know we are Christians by our love".
I've just reread this, and it's not very coherent. I hope you are able to pull out what I actually mean with what I've written.

If that person is indeed a believer they are just lacking assurance of their salvation. It sounds like that would be because they believe the heresy of Calvinism.
Someone can be saved and still not be sure that they are. Most, if not all believers will go through this phase at some point. The solution is to actually understand how one is saved. Then a believer can literally, know, that they know, that they KNOW that they are born again and rejoice.
    Colossians 2:11-13 KJV
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
    13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Calvin was a man John was a man Paul was a man .
So trust God and not man.
If God is truly never wrong then just go with what "God" is telling you to do it's not that hard . If you don't like what God tells you to do then don't do it and see how things work out
No need to overcomplicate worrying about things because after all life is over before you know it
