This anime has the perfect amount of horror, comedy, action, and most of all romance. I feel like the reason Dandadan is just so good because the characters actually feel real and are extremely relatable. Teenage anime characters sometimes don’t feel like actually teenagers in Dandadan they really do act like how I would and others, making fun of each other, arguing, swearing, being awkward with each other, and just their overall demeanor feels so real
As a long time manga reader of Dandadan I knew the minute the anime was announced, I knew it would be the talk of the town. Check out the manga too, the 2 page spreads are so beautiful.

1:00 actually the writer of Dan Da Dan was once the assistant of the writer of Chainsaw Man so you can kinda see the elements and where he learned it from when making this series
tatsuki fujimoto might genuinely be one of the most influential manga writers of today everything i’ve seen from his assistants or things from his influence have been incredible
The mangaka for Dan Da Dan was forced to read over 100 Shojou manga by his editor before he was allowed to write it, because believe it or not, it has always intended to be a romance first and foremost. This explains why the romance and SoL parts are so well done, literally studied it.
This is what totally threw me off (in a good way). At first I thought it was just a typical shounen boy likes girl type thing and I kept watching and being like 'why am I getting lovely complex' vibes. The shoujo elements give it a very wholesome and comedic undertone. In a way, Okarun's and Momo's contrasting personalities are a metaphor for the genre fusion of shounen/shoujo that's happening in the series. Makes for a great balanced story
as a girly girl who enjoys good shōjo (shonens can be a bit predictable and repetitive) i was so positively surprised by Dandandan. i'm very picky abt shōjo, i don't like slice of life (ahem Fruits Basket) or dated cringe romance stuff. ever since i watched season 1 of JJK and the Apothecary Diaries i've been really hoping for an anime that's something in-between those two. started on Dandandan with no expectations, but i ended up really enjoying it :D
Didn't expect him to talk about Dan da Dan And I think in MY opinion it deserve anime of the year there is a lot of anime that are amazing this year but this one was very special and stand out very well I don't mind if it doesn't get anime of the year but I would be happy if it does I don't go out there to watch a anime but this one got me good
For me, whether dandadan is anime of the year depends on whether you count frieren as an anime from 2024, cuz it started airing in 2023, but finished in 2024 Frieren is also currently the #1 anime on myanimelist and it's not even close
0:14 Charles the correct pronunciation is literally the first thing in the anime you ever hear and then it's said to you repeatedly multiple times at the start of every episode I'm not sure how you got the pronunciation like that
Isn't that just a case of like, American inflection vs Japanese inflection? Like, if in Japan, they pronounced Charlie as "Cha-lie", that's not wrong as much as it is just different inflections. Like how most non-Spanish speakers won't roll their Rs when saying "rojo".
That's not the real origin of the manga, that was like the second part of its origin. The first part was the author has seen the film Sadako vs Kayako (The Ring vs The Grudge), which has a weird horror-comedy tone and ideas in it, and he found the movie hysterical yet it also took itself semi-seriously. He drew Turbo Granny's design inspired by that movie, and the idea of what if instead of a ghost vs a ghost it was ghost vs aliens. It was then the brother call about what if the main story was about a guy who lost his balls. The third step was he wanted a romance element, and a friend of his recommended he read a lot of shoujo manga because they do romance better, which he did and did inspire him for the romance in his series.
I think it was ep 7 that had the acro-silky backstory? That episode is likely the best piece of media I've ever seen. Great art, music, animation, direction. An amazing experience

I read the manga last year right before the anime announcement, and it quickly became my favourite manga of all time. I can't wait for everyone to see what Yukinobu Tatsu has in store for all the anime-onlys. This series is gonna rip you apart and put you back together and it's gonna have you with your mouth wide open especially for this next season. Enjoy.
3:35 I really liked that episode exclusively for the fact that it got so much screentime. The anime is adapted at approximately 2.5 manga chapters per anime episode. The emotional segment Charlie is referencing here got ~15min of the episode's screen time, but is adapted from just 11 pages of the manga (latter half of chapter 16). I think this is a fantastic choice by the anime team and it bodes well for the future of the anime. I've been reading this manga religiously for like the past 2.5 years, and watching this anime do so well brings me immense joy. Very glad everyone is enjoying this gem. A little spoiler, it doesn't stop getting better.

Overall frieren was pretty basic anime, but it did it so well. It was good and i would gladly see a season 2. Was it really THAT good. Not sure about that. DanDaDan on the other hand just has way more effort(?) and passion in it or at least thats how it feels. @@kobitz9001 yeah ur right my bad apparently the anime started in 2023 but im still standing witg dungeon meshi being a better show overall than dandadan
Because it is a slice of life. Let’s use our brains here, the story is abt high schoolers who randomly get powers and they start to form a relationship overtime at school and in suspenseful situations. Literally half of the show is slice of life and the other half is shonen.

@@luceafarul5740 That’s just gaslighting, bud. The anime’s synopsis overtly states that it’s “set in 15th Century Poland”, ie the Kingdom of Poland under the Jagiellonian Dynasty during the personal union with Lithuania. The main character is even called “Rafał”, which is a very common Polish name. Furthermore, simply crossing out names doesn’t absolve a work from criticism; it’s still a piece of historical fiction and is making the conscious decision to use myths instead of research.
Idk why, some people complain about waiting till July of 2025 to get Dandadan season 2, as an AOT fan, that’s a pretty short time, cause it took 4 years for season 2 of AOT to release.
A few MONTHS is insane for ANY high quality show. People complaining that's too long legitimately should have their opinions completely disregarded. If anything, I find that worrying. I just hope this is a case of them doing 24 eps but just splitting S1 into 2 seasons to give the crew time to breathe.
@@lockerbuddy2039 its probably going to affect the quality a little, since 7-8 months is not that much time if its going to produce 12 extra episode. @@lockerbuddy2039 Yup, it's basically Season 1 Part 2, but splitting Season up into parts tends to make people feel like they're pushing half a show back for no reason, or it makes others confused on what's what, so they're going ahead with the "Season 2" title. Frieren is IMO a certified all timer based on one season alone. Required watching if you like anime. Dandadan IMO is also an all timer but definitely niche so it may vary depending on the taste of the person. Fuck it was an absolute BANGER year for anime fans.
You have to read the manga. It keeps that energy the entire time without overstaying its welcome because it brings fresh story lines and situations for the characters to grow. It's my favorite manga.
Much as I love dandadan. Frieren deserves anime of the year in my opinion. You should definitely check out frieren. It's a show that reminded me to spend more time with my loved ones. It's a high fantasy anime with so many lovable characters and themes
1. Frieren anime released in 2023 2. It's a great anime, but not nearly as dynamic as Dandadan. 3. Charlie literally says in this video that he doesn't enjoy slice-of-life. Frieren is mostly one note. I love it, but yeah. It's an after adventure that's primarily slice of life with a bit of solid action and a tiny bit of romance. As much as I love Frieren, I think Dandadan blows it out of the water on both scope and execution.
Though i respect your opinion, i think frieren takes the spot as the most overrated anime of all time. It has no memorable moments and the characters have little to none personality and the plot feels like it was made by a generic fantasy webtoon artist. It's the equivalent of doing a hard working part time job to gain your check, but the difference is you won't get paid for it. And i think it's up to everyone's preference, if you like a simple and calm anime with beautiful animation, i think frieren is the best choice. But for me, its BOOOOOORINGGGGGGGG
@@LackSunyou can find the slice of life aspect boring, but to say the characters have no personality, and has no memorable moments is objectively wrong

How does this still hit deep and make sense in some abstract way?”
Bro expecting alien and ghost to follow human moral system and not SA both guy and girl. Joke aside, compared to other degenerate shit that happened just because, this actually works
The SA scenes are a social commentary of how predatory men are in Japan. Have you seen SA scenes here where the girls are sexualized from the start? Have you seen SA scenes in Dandadan where women look sexualized, having bare skin? No right? That is because the what you wear doesn't matter in the eyes of a predator. Why isn't Seiko getting SA'd instead of Momo and Aira when they are wearing full clothes? That is because Dandadan shows what women had to deal with in Japan. I have seen videos even though women are wearing long skirts, they still get harassed (ie camera under long skirt).
Idk why but the humor balanced with the few emotional moments with the wack description you gave this anime reminds me of how one might describe Rick and Morty
While I do prefer Bleach as the anime of the year, DanDaDan is just different. I wouldn't be mad if people pick it. This is one of the first new Gen animes that made me want to read the manga instead of waiting 7 months for the next season.

The mangaka for Dan Da Dan was forced to read over 100 Shojou manga by his editor before he was allowed to write it, because believe it or not, it has always intended to be a romance first and foremost. This explains why the romance and SoL parts are so well done, literally studied it.

@@YMatt2029 Oh.

For me, whether dandadan is anime of the year depends on whether you count frieren as an anime from 2024, cuz it started airing in 2023, but finished in 2024
Frieren is also currently the #1 anime on myanimelist and it's not even close
0:14 Charles the correct pronunciation is literally the first thing in the anime you ever hear and then it's said to you repeatedly multiple times at the start of every episode I'm not sure how you got the pronunciation like that
Seconding this, just.. how?? Lmao
bro he litterally said the same thing twice what is everyone smoking
Isn't that just a case of like, American inflection vs Japanese inflection?
Like, if in Japan, they pronounced Charlie as "Cha-lie", that's not wrong as much as it is just different inflections. Like how most non-Spanish speakers won't roll their Rs when saying "rojo".
Ive heard people say that the title is said the same way as that sound of something being overdramatized for horror. Dan! Da! Daaaaan!🎺🎺
I can't even say Literaly without the T
I love that the concept came to be because the author literally had a late night call with bro and went “Imagine if this guy lost his balls”

1. Frieren anime released in 2023

What i meant about bare skins or something from the start is that. Do SA scenes start with women having bare skin, looking sexualized, from the start?
Idk why but the humor balanced with the few emotional moments with the wack description you gave this anime reminds me of how one might describe Rick and Morty

@@luis_zarag0za@pointman7512 First of dandadan is great for what it makes out to be, a wacky, unserious, cartoon-like story with a blend of romance, but u cant be saying that its "peak"
right now, it has no plot at all. There hasnt been any villains that have made it out of the series, unless the author does something with idk maybe count saint germain, this story rn is like opm season one, there was no villains, and if there was they would die at the end of the episode, which is why i say its cartoon-like.
then there is the extreme lack of character depth, which what i mean by that is that the second mc (ken) has no backstory what so ever, and his parents somehow let him stay for weeks at end at his "friends house" (which btw ken has NEVER had friends in his entire life) which is suspicious asf, and the only charcters who have had mention of there family and jiji and momo.
the humour in dandadan is also quirky asf and super unrealistic (which might be part of the "charm")
the reason i think its overrated because fucking jjk brought and shit ton of new gen fans that started absoloutely dickriding tf out of dandadan untill it bled, and these people's reading comprehension is that of a 5th grader, like jjk fans and dandadan fans are probably the only fandoms that are smart enough to not read their own manga
There is no world building at all for some reason
Considering how wild this manga is, how the power structure doesn't follow "normal" shonen rules-as in, there's no power levels, no normal training, the characters are as strong as the plot requires, which leads leads to plotholes.
Besides that, the action and charcter design and art is great.
unless the author is planning to make this a long ass story (800+ chapter) and the first 200 chapters were just a prologue this series has no hope
(there is a slither of hope as rn in the manga things are actually picking up with granny seiko being involved, I hope she dies or gets sealed or kidnapped or something, just use her as a plot device to move the story forward)

I’ll take Charlie’s opinion on most things. Anime is not one of them. He just doesn’t watch enough. I think Dandadan is good but it’s not the best anime of the year
"doesn't spend every waking moment watching anime, his opinion is invalid"
Sure. Whatever you say.
@@BillSkarsgardRuinedMyLifeHe literally watches one anime throughout the year and makes sure that's the most popular and yet he titles it "Anime of the year" shouldn't he watch at least a couple of anime this year before granting that title?
@rianstanis9458 he literally watched more than one anime this year.
obsessed anime fan is mad charlie didn't talk about frieren and that he doesn't spend every second of his life watching anime and reading manga
Man I'm so happy you likes this show, when people were recommending it to you I thought you won't give it a try knowing your taste but I'm really happy you liked it and it had a lot of hype already cause the creator of Dandadan is Yukinobu tatsu who was an assistant to Tatsuki fujimoto the creator of chainsaw man. I want to recommend you one more thing, Orb the movements of the earth, it's a bit like vinland saga but it's about proving heliocentrism in a time where even talking about it was considered heresy
I scrolled down, didn't see any orb recommendations, made one, scrolled 2 comments more, found this one
@@luceafarul5740 goated stuff that doesn't get enough praise
" I don't believe in ghost, but if I ever see one that at least makes death more tolerable and less scary" - My grandpa.
"Yeah, I definitely think it's anime of the year" all I needed to hear.
yeah its the worse anime of the year
@@Laughitys Going to every comemnt and hating. How is it bad?
@@tatertot8669 because people say it's good he's compelled to say it's bad
@@northcountrywoodcraftny5953 let's just ported for spam
@@tatertot8669 First of dandadan is great for what it makes out to be, a wacky, unserious, cartoon-like story with a blend of romance, but u cant be saying that its "peak"
right now, it has no plot at all.
"Just like the top shelf in my kitchen, I had no fucking idea this existed" An exceptional line.
And the best part is it's multilayered. He could be referring to his own lack of knowledge of both his top shelf and Dandadan, or he could be referring to his and his shelf's lack of knowledge to Dandadan.
@MrBelles104 it's because he is short. He can't reach the top shelf. That's why he doesn't know. It isn't that deep
i love Dandadan, but i believe Look Back by Fujimoto is severely underrated and i can consider that one as my anime of the year
Turbo Granny attacking JiJi in the backgound was the funniest thing I ever seen in DanDaDan
Are we getting a video on Re:Zero season 3 when arc 5 ends?
It’s literally a roller coaster of pure chaos, character development and good writing. It’s so good!
This one is good, but Orb has got it beat
We getting our balls back with this anime review🗣🗣🔥🗣🔥🔥🔥🗣🔥
1:20 Dandadan is slice of life??
Is has some elements
Romance, slice of life, comedy, and action
It’s alright slice of life it’s no where near normal slice of life anime tho
@Randomshistuff2 oh ok
