If I’m decluttering a desk top or dresser, I’ll put it all in a box and only put back what belongs. If I can’t find a place for an item, it stays in the box and the box goes.
I keep a donation box siting around. As the days or weeks pass, I put things in there I know I don’t need. Once full (or I get tired of looking at it), the box gets donated. I don’t ever find myself pulling items out of it, but it’s helpful to me to have a designated spot to put items I plan to declutter. Bonus - if friends see items in there they can use, they know they can take it.
My wife and I have very little time to declutter since our kids are very young. Our hack is to stick to one drawer or one spot at a time. Our second hack is to watch an episode of Hoarders before starting to declutter, since it really gets us motivated. Our third hack is to target getting rid of furniture instead of certain items. Getting rid of furniture that often is used to store items, really helps with being more aggressive when decluttering, since it has a bigger effect on our living space.
Hell yeah! "Quick wins" from bigger items or smaller spaces to get the ball rolling! Laura from How To GYST taught me that one. Totally helps battle the overwhelm! (I have a little ADHD tornado of a boy so minimal time to myself!)
Everything I own is second hand (except my underwear). So when I was decluttering I had nothing that was worth selling or high value. The nearest place to donate is a 2 hour drive round trip. Instead I grouped like items and offered them for free on Facebook. I put everything in that group in a box & marked it & stacked it in the hallway. When someone came to pick up I could just hand them the box without opening it. It did mean I had a stack of boxes in the hallway for a few days, but it was pretty effective.
I needed this so bad! I've been needing to declutter and get things together forever but it always amplifies my anxiety because I know it takes a while and leaving a mess will stress me out too. This helps a ton!
I paused your presentation to declutter for 2 minutes, with the timer, and got rid of a bakers dozen! This is significant because I struggle over whether or not to get rid of one or two things. I love the suggestion of boxing stuff up to learn whether or not you need it.
Man, this is tough but feels SO good to make progress. I've done this once before ("this" being a massive decluttering drive) and it was one of the best decisions of my life. Now I'm starting on Round 2 about 3 years later. Man, it just feels TOUGH to let go of things. It's both overwhelming and emotional. But I know the truth, from direct personal experience, is that I'm more and more excited about my life as I cut it down to the essentials. Every little tip and motivation helps. If you're decluttering / minimalizing / essentializing right now, just KEEP GOING and get rid of some stuff RIGHT NOW! I promise, you'll feel better afterwards and you'll want to keep going - no matter how tough it is.
I have a friend from Liberia who sends donation s back there several times a year. The people are in such great need and it makes me happy knowing that my abundance will bless someone across the world! 🥰🙏🏻❤️

Thanks for sharing 💞 great video! Favourite decluttering hack is the container concept. The size of the container is the size of the container. It could be a bookshelf, a wardrobe, a drawer, even what pictures are on a wall. Empty everything out put your favourite items there first, once it's full donate the rest. Has worked for me, I've been decluttering that way for over a year. I realised what stuff I had that I loved. So now my house is full of my favourite things and it makes me happy 😊
Just cleaned out our fifth wheel camper so we can sell it. Putting together my ultra light camp set up then everything else is gone. It’s a start. Went through our books got rid of half now really going through them again. We have until August with our 3 youngest of 8 kids my goal is to be decluttered by then started in December sent important cookbooks to kids for Christmas as part of the decluttering of books. Thank you for your tips.
telling me to close our laptops and start now helped. I'm so stressed about moving my apartment (I'm only taking what I can fit in my car) but yet I'm still just sitting here watching youtube videos about decluttering.. im starting now!
I just have so much stuff that it is suffocating me. So its honestly time that I get rid of a lot of it. I need to declutter and i'm doing it now. No more waiting. No more procrastination.

I hope you get a million subscribers, Gabe. This is seriously one of my go to channels for inspiration. Thank you for the great content and sharing your journey through frugality and decluttering. 🙂
I agree with your suggestions. Once a month I do a walk through my house and attempt to remove one item from each room, put in a box in my garage or car for 24 hours. If I don't reclaim an item after that time, I donate everything in the box. It's fun and like you takes very little time and effort. Love your videos.
I love listening to your videos. Sometimes when I listen to other people's videos they make me tired they talk so fast and they are so crazy acting that it just gives me anxiety. For some reason yours always calms me down and you also have such good common sense and also money manageability you've helped me out a lot. Thank you and keep going!
Absolutely agree with you that enlisting help from a friend or family member is huge help. My mom was an absolute queen in helping me Declutter. Her “WTF” reactions to why I kept certain things helped me just easily throw it out.
New subscriber here! Love the channel as I’m starting to become more minimalist. I started because I found have extra stuff became more distracting in my life trying to achieve goals and also for peace of mind. Thank you!
What’s up! In the garage de cluttering. I usually organize everything and now I realize that I’m organizing stuff I don’t need. Making a donations box and a sell box.
A person needs to be in the right mind place. I have been a helping friend asked to help decluter and it can damage the relationship fast. Because a person wants to decluter but it takes only few garbage stuff to be questioned that they go back to their shell and do not throw anything. Because they feel emotional attachement to that cluter. Once a person is in the right place for declutering a friend is only needed to help move boxes away.
Funny that you mentioned getting mad at your stuff, because it helps for me to listen to some good metal while decluttering. It gives me the energy flow to get the job done!
What's up! I'm glad I found your video - I working on going through what I have, but I'm finding some of it to be rather challenging and wanted to find something to motivate and help me be effective. Thanks for sharing some tips! I just moved back home after being away for a job for 3 years and I feel like I hardly remember what I owned 3 years ago 😅 I'm getting ready to move again, with everything this time, so I want to reevaluate what I have and what I need, while still holding onto what I'll actually use again. I think this will be hard but I'm hoping it will be good for me too.
I use the clockwise decluttering with a 5 minute timer...room to room set for a week with boxes named, then reward myself with avocado 🥑 smoothies. Keep safe 😘 Thank you for sharing your thoughts, stories and tactical experiences.
I decluttered my whole apartment while playing all your videos and they really helped a lot. It felt like an old friend nagging in a nice way when I was feeling like to quit because of the amount of workload and stress from decision making.
i’m planning on moving out of my parents house soon, and i don’t want to rent a uhaul if i don’t have to and i have A LOT of stuff. this really helped me. i’ll definitely come back when i’m packing
Your channel just popped up when browsing You Tube. I really like that your content is right on and to the point. I own a residential cleaning company and we see it all. One of my pet peeves when cleaning is too much clutter. It takes so much longer to vacuum and dust when there is clutter all over and it causes stress. That is enough of an incentive to keep my house tidy. Some months ago I went through my clothes closet trying on clothes that I didn’t wear. Several big black bags went to Goodwill. During the start of the pandemic I went through all my files and papers that we had since we were married. I filed and labeled only what we need for taxes and insurance purposes. Now the family can easily find important papers if needed. Such a relief! Next project is to get rid of items I don’t use that are taking up space in my cupboards.
This is so helpful. One of my biggest issues is I've collected so many things over the years like popnviny figures, Pokémon cards just general memorabillia. I always struggle deciding whether to keep those things or give them up
I have that same method. I do this every day actually. I choose a drawer or any spot that I see with any clutter. I take everything out and clean it our. I really enjoy decluttering.

Great video.. Been slowly going through our apt over the last couple of months .. Wardrode finally sorted yesterday just some summer shoes for final wear.. Looking at makeup etc today.. Clears the mind/ Weight lifed ..New minimalistic me 🤞🙂
Not gonna lie... Getting Mad is extremely helpful when decluttering because one is not thinking about the attachments one has to the things, and so it helps bring focus to what is actually helpful and what is not... Decluttering also serves as a stress reducer when doing it mad
Sometimes it gets hard to get rid of things because you keep thinking "what if I NEED it at some point?" But once you get past that thought and get rid of it, you realize that you really never NEEDED that thing or those things. Love the video!💫😁

(And, trust me, I needed that peace of mind. I live with a "collector" husband and a borderline hoarder MIL.--UGH, lol)
I do like to use your videos for helping motivate me in cleaning/ decluttering. I like your container idea. Having hard to with sentimental items. My husband and I are now retired. Both our parents have passed. Now bad enough having our stuff now also have parents stuff. so this has become a lot of stuff. Trying to eliminate items so our children won’t have same issue as we are going through. Wondering if you have done a video on sentimental items.
what are your favorite decluttering hacks?
Just put on a blind fold and go to you’re junk drawer and grab stuff
6:07 Wow, great editing idea :)
Doing it in batches or cycles,
Not collecting, so you don't need to decuttler! :D
Going through my stuff frequently to make sure no clutter has sneaked its way in
If I’m decluttering a desk top or dresser, I’ll put it all in a box and only put back what belongs. If I can’t find a place for an item, it stays in the box and the box goes.

I always throw on hoarders when I need to motivate myself. Especially if I'm decluttering sentimental items and then I Swedish Death Clean like crazy!
