I am so thankful to these minimalism content creators for always providing (and by that I mean selling) solutions that just happen to be their product sponsors. The fact that they are selling the idea of owning less and not pleasing people, while they pitch you something that contributes to consumerism is lost to a lot of people.
Few months ago I got rid of a LOT of clothes because they didn't fit and have been keeping them for when I lose weight. After getting rid of them I then started to lose weight and now I don't have them. haha Maybe getting rid of them helped with my weight loss journey. Time to look to the future rather than the past.
Hi Gabe, I have been watching your videos for quite a while now. I really appreciate what you are doing. Your Videos and Minimalism has brought clarity to my life. Now I'm chasing my goals, i am also working on leaving my current job which i don't like. Keep Posting these great videos. Thank you!
Just decluttered my large crockpot. I used to use it weekly but now I literally use it one time a year and I could use my instinstapot for that one purpose.
This wasn’t the video I wanted but it was the video I needed lol. I follow a lot of either frugal channels or sustainability channels, and I often try to turn away when either of them talk about decluttering. At this point in my life, I’m very conscious of what I bring into my house and make sure that any purchases I make are as mindful, sustainable, and ethical as they can be within my means. But when it comes to decluttering, I’m awful. While I’ve gotten rid of some stuff in the past, I still have SO much stuff I just don’t need that I hang onto. And I just really appreciate you breaking down different things like sentiment that have caused me to hold onto so many things for so long. Another thing that stands in my way is making sure I get rid of stuff responsibly and that it finds a good home and doesn’t just end up in the landfill. It would be so cool to see you explore that side of things on your channel if you’re ever interested in that. And again, thank you so much for making this video!
Pretty easy since I don’t have a-lot of things, cleaned my clothes and some old hobbies stuffs. Now time to get my wife on the boat. Brought a house in 2020 trying keep everything nice and clean! Thanks for these video helps and motivating to continue me on this journeys
I’ve done the house except the sewing room 🤦🏼♀️ I started last week and it’s hard. I keep the fabric scraps to make more quilts. I have enough fabric to open a fabric shop. (Well maybe not it just seems it) I have fabric in there from 1991… maybe it’s time to let some go. I have saved end pieces of batting to make table runners….. I’ve made maybe 4 table runners in my life. All that batting is going!!!! Thanks to you snd other you tubers I’m learning to “Let it go!”
Quilting stuff is hard because it is an inherently thrifty hobby. I'm currently making some crumb blocks but I've decided when I finish these, I will no longer save scraps smaller than a 4" square or a 2" strip. I don't have time to make crumb quilts when there's so many other quilts I'd rather be making.
Vicky, I recently decluttered my beading room (it's a closet actually lol). It was the last space I had to do and it was hard at first because it's all sentimental and cost a lot of money over the years. I donated anything I hadn't used in a couple years and kept the basics. Now it all fits in one large tote, I feel great about having more room in my creative space, and someone else can use what I donated! Good luck with the sewing room. I understand the struggle.
Move on when you bend over backwards for a friend they see your needs and won’t help. Friendship isn’t cheap nor easily earned. Declutter friends who turn a blind eye to you.
I am actively making efforts to lose holiday weight, so I'm not getting rid of a huge portion of my wardrobe. I did weed out a pair of jeans with a huge hole in the left knee along with a pair of jeans that hasn't fit for over a year. I've been decluttering for years. This year I'm organizing what is remaining and doing no spend months. I'm also looking to weed a few items out...like towels (already at the SPCA) for the dogs and cats.
I wanted to lose weight for years but I couldn't do it. When I declutterd I sorted out the clothes that I really loved and would miss if I ever lost the weight and saved those. When I found more peace I finally lost the weight and I'm so happy I saved those shirts! I also loved buying new clothes so I'm happy that I only saved what I really loved and would miss if I would ever fit in them. So good for you for saving it! I hope you reach your goal!!
@@naturalfairykim7736 This is an annual thing for me...losing the holiday weight. I have SAD and can't deal with the cold or the gloominess of winter. Hence the weight. I'm thinking the decluttering and reorganizing is helpful in that it is lifting my mood. Hugs to you and thank you for the kind words.
I followed the minimalist movement for ages and I still have the itch to declutter even though I've decluttered to the extreme already. Sometimes it's annoying because I need a certain old possession for a current job or hobby and that can lead to frustration. The most part is getting rid of stuff you don't use, if you use it or display it and it makes you happy then keep it. There's a fine line between hoarders and collectors though so re-evaluating really helps, keep the movement going!
Good advice, but I still struggle with the no paper concept. I feel out of control having my expenses on autopay, I feel a paper copy, can serve as proof of purchase, etc., and needed info. I use a computer, but I also find them unreliable as well. I recently had to have my computer repaired. The tech told me that my items were saved, but they were not. Thus, I lost my homeowners info because of this misinformation. But likely, I asked for a paper copy from my insurance company beforehand. I know, back things up in the cloud, but I"m not tech savvy enough, thus, I still do paper. Sorry, yea, I know come up to the 21st century, ok one day. Ms. B. Churchill

Usually I really enjoy your videos, but honestly, this was not one of your best. It felt a bit slopat and not as engaging as I’n used to. And the bit about the face wash… nah But then again, perhaps it’s me waking up on the wrong side of the bed 😁
I had the same feeling. It felt like a video was needed for the sponsor, and one was made quickly with some common general things about decluttering, and a title with some capital words. Maybe he needs to explore some other subjects.
Oh i feel so bad because just the last week I bought a night stand on facebook for like 30 dollars and now I regret it, I don't know what I was thinking when I made that decision and now I'm having it in my workspace just to put a plant on it. I'm planning to sell it again or if someone I know likes it then I will give it to get rid of it. But this was a mistake and I hope ill learn from it
Sentimental stuff used to be hard, but it’s getting better. I started with clothing and have moved on to others things where I purposefully get rid of things that make me feel guilty.
Gabe, I have a challenge for you. I really want to declutter my home and slow down my shopping habits. I feel in most areas it is possible. But.. I have a lot of craft interests which means lots of stuff. Do you have any strategies for the “crafter” HELP! Thank you! You are a brilliant young man.
Im going through a weight gain and trying to lose the weight, but I know Im not gonna get back to pre-college me (i just graduated) because I was in a bad mental space... yet I keep the clothes that fit me well then in case I go back to being that small. If I ever get that size with a positive mindset, I think i deserve to get a new wardrobe anyway since that wonr be for years 😊
Hey there Gabe. James in Australia here. Funny watching this video of yours - you're such a good looking bloke, and your skin always looks so good on your videos (combination of good skin and good lighting maybe? LOL) I'd often wondered if you used anything on your skin - and then this! LOL. They look like very good value given how little you have to use. I wondered what part of the US you live in? In one of your clips you were walking outside - the colours of the leaves, and then the light snow. Looks like a really beautiful part of the country wherever you are.
Clothing trick I found. For cloths you hang, go out and buy two different colored plastic hangers, let's say white and green. Hang all your clothes on the white hangers. Once you wear and launder something, hang it on a green hanger. In time, 3 months, 6 months, or a year, the cloths that are still on white hangers, you never wore. Pass them on and get rid of them.
I know it's silly... but getting rid of tshirts? Due to the pandemic, I spend so much time inside that it's hard to justify getting rid of loungewear. But I have a RIDICULOUS amount of tshirts (like 50 of them) and I hardly ever wear tshirts in public (I prefer blouses and sweaters and stuff). So I am slowly trying to convince myself to part with excess tshirts.
I mean I agree with a lot of stuff but the clothes you want to keep for your children or grand children I’ll have to disagree. I wish my grandma kept a lot of things as it was great quality back then and that fashion circles back a lot of the time. My mom did keep a lot of stuff for me to wear and it’s now half of my closet. Sure don’t keep crappy fast fashion stuff but quality pieces that has a meaning to you, don’t get rid of it just for the sake of getting rid of stuff.
By the look of it, your change in clothing sizes is more changing to a preference for comfort than you gaining weight. Larger clothes, up to a certain point, are more comfortable and allow more freedom of movement.
Gabe, the audio in this video was very rushed. It sounded like you were interrupting yourself. It’s ok to have a pause between sentences. Thanks for listening.
I like that you talk about taking time to re-evaluate our routines because we can all fall into patterns that might not be best for us. I really enjoy my skincare routines. I've been taking care of my skin since my 20's, with the most important being sunscreen (worn daily.) At almost 60, people tell me I look like I'm in my 40's!! My issue is family heirlooms. They are beautiful and valuable pieces that I've been slowly giving away to my family. I'm saving the rest to give my grandchildren, pieces of jewelry etc. Of course, I didn't spend any money on these, so they aren't going anywhere!
I think one of the things minimalism involves is making choices about what is really important to you personally. These might not be important to someone else and then might involve buying good quality products. If you feel that your skin is important you might decide to buy quality products. These are personal choices about things that you don't just do but have given real consideration.

declutter again? It may be time to learn that your repetition is because it must go beyond a physical activity. Learn a new way of thinking. Perhaps less time telling your repeated failures and look for someone that understands and will help you. It does not need to be done over and over again. With appropriate guidance you could be so much further along. Good luck

Here you are promoting minimalism and on the other had trying to sell skin care. You message seems to be a bit hypocritical and contradictory.
Minimalist can't take care of themselves I'm very confused?
Yes, that's what I wanted to write!
Minimalists do also have skin that has to be cleaned..
I think one of the things minimalism involves is making choices about what is really important to you personally. These might not be important to someone else and then might involve buying good quality products. If you feel that your skin is important you might decide to buy quality products. These are personal choices about things that you don't just do but have given real consideration.
And kudos to you, Gabe, for taking care of your face. 👍
Hygiene is always a necessity. I don’t think any minimalist no longer buys razors, lotion, shampoo ect. It’s about not having 12 bottles of shampoo you don’t even like.
declutter again? It may be time to learn that your repetition is because it must go beyond a physical activity. Learn a new way of thinking. Perhaps less time telling your repeated failures and look for someone that understands and will help you. It does not need to be done over and over again. With appropriate guidance you could be so much further along. Good luck
Along with evaluating expenses at the end of each month and improving, it's taking each item at a different angle and priority.
That's true
Skincare products are unneccessary.
Lol🤪
You look better in the black tee than the burgundy one, in that bod of yours
Cut out subscriptions that cost you money every month
Pay $47 a month for a skincare subscription
Hmmmm

Seriously dude, why do you need special "face wash" vs just using the same soap you use on the rest of your body? Isn't that kinda anti-minimalist?
