Michael I have to say, although you're pimarily a booktuber (and my biggest inspiration for starting my own book reviews on my own channel here on RUclips), I have LOVED seeing your views on movies with all these recent top 10 lists. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that sometime in the future you'll grace us with what your top favorite movies of all time petiod are, as well tv shows as I've previously said since knowing you're a big Star Trek fan I don't douvt you have other great picks for favorites. Keep up the great work!
What about Bullit??? That's my number one. Followed by Die Hard. I saw Raiders long enough ago that I don't remember anything about it. The rest of your list I haven't seen. Fascinating video though. 😊
Great list! I commented my feelings on GrammaticusBook's vid that "Rules scmools. Of course Raiders of the Lost Ark is the greatest action movie." It's not open for debate. 🤣 I also mentioned that I would have included, or at least mentioned Raid 2 and 1. I really enjoyed the topic. Well done good sir.
Omg, I LOVE Highlander!! Great movie, EPIC soundtrack! No, don’t subject yourself to the show. It’s absolutely not worth it. My husband and I can’t fathom how they think they’re going to remake this any better than the original. You can’t replace that cast.
Glad to find someone else who likes "Highlander." "The Road Warrior" is GREAT. (Agree that "Beyond Thunderdome" is a turkey.) "RoboCop" holds up extremely well. (See "Flesh + Blood," Verhoeven's first English-language film. A crazy Medieval adventure.) Agree that "The Terminator" is better than "Terminator 2." (At least, that is the "appropriate response.") And I do have that "Action!" book about BLAM -- Big Loud Action Movies. It's great. Very enjoyable.
Wow. This is such a difficult category to narrow down to 10. Some of your choices are on my top list: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rambo Series, Road Warrior. I have a had time narrowing down series of movies I like to a specific one: * The Denzel Washington Equalizer Series (and I haven't seen #3 yet) * * Braveheart * * The Bourne Trilogy * * The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Series (Swedish Extended Version - perhaps the greatest movie series of all time; don't bother with the American version of the first novel- idiots changed the ending so it made no sense) * * Saving Private Ryan * Gunga Din (1939) * * The Guns of Navarone * Where Eagles Dare * The Dirty Dozen Not saying I am right, but these should be considered and check them out of you haven't seen them. I starred all the stuff I watch over and over.
Highlander is Epic!! I'd be interested in hearing what your opinions are on the 10 greatest novel to film adaptations, or your top 10 greatest comic book adaptations.
That is a great list! I guess I never thought about when the shift from mostly real stunts to mostly CGI took place. Although clearly from CGI era, but I would consider adding The Dark Knight to the list.
Wow, excellent! You should do more film videos! Glad to see you started off with Jackie Chan. My first exposure to Raiders was Harrison Ford's appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. They showed the golden idol, boulder and plane scene.
Without a doubt Michael, I think your picks are much better that those other guys. (Sorry Grammaticus and Steve). They shouldn't have set up those rules either. Who needs stinking rules? 🤣🤣🤣
This list is much closer to my own. I’m not sure which Police Story I would have chosen though the original is probably the better movie. I would have had A Better Tomorrow over The Killer. I would also have had The Road Warrior and Raiders of the Lost Ark too. The Terminator over Terminator 2. I have to say that the absence of They Live and Big Trouble in Little China is scandalous!
Great list. Can not argue with the top three. I would have Lethal Weapon also in my top ten. Top Two Christmas Action movies. #2: Lethal Weapon #1: Die Hard
Jackie Chan...action movie gold! Highlander, I so wanted to put that in my list...but you know, rules! Die Hard a Christmas movie??? NOOooooo! (but my wife agrees with you). Good stuff Michael!
That’s a great list! Can’t really argue with any of the movies you present. The order for me changes a bit depending on my mood but definitely in the same ballpark.
Amazing! I am excited to watch this video. Greetings from Ukraine, Michael. Ps. After watching I would say this is a Great list! I would add maybe The Rock, The Raid.
Both The Husband and I are over-the-top book-crazies, but we also are big movie fans. Bring on movies whenever you feel like it. You are still in our world. I love The Highlander movie. If you don't mind some changes, watch The Highlander series. The part of the young punk he takes under his wing is miscast, but the series has a lot of humor as well as action. There are some very interesting recurring characters as well. I like Robocop. The rest on the list, that I know, are good. I do not know The Killer. We open the Christmas movie season with Die Hard #1 every year.(The sequels got one viewing each). Teminator 2 is good, but I hate what they did to Sarah, but for sheer terror, yeah. #2. Raiders was such a phenom, an elderly priest commented on how great it was at mass, I kid you not.
I'd like to give a shout out to one of THE craziest action movies ever made: "SHOOT 'EM UP" starring Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti (2007). It's f***ing inSANE.
Not enough Jackie Chan or Mission Impossible on that list. I may need to start browsing my own shelves for the correct list 😂 Another fun video as always. I love when you struggle to keep a straight face. Have a great day!
Yes, you need to watch Highlander the TV show. There's a character introduced in Season 3 that I think may become a favorite character of all time for you.
Nice list, but... no Aliens???!!! WHAAAAAT???!!! Also appreciate you having a Jackie Chan movie on here, but his best is The Legend of Drunken Master (Drunken Master 2). Just sayin'...
Mad Max: Fury Road (possibly the greatest action film ever made, imho), Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One and all other MI films (which got exponentially better over time), any James Bond film starring Daniel Craig True Lies Aliens and basically your list, mostly (though I haven't seen all of them).
Mad Max: Fury Road deserved a place on the list, I think. Also, while it is not an action movie, the single greatest action sequence in a movie is, in my opinion, the chariot race from Ben-Hur.
Well you got some correct not all.😂 10 Shogun Assasin 9 Predator 8 Commando 7 Flash Gorden 6 Terminator 5 Robocop 4 Enter the Dragon 3 Rocky III 2 First Blood 1 Clash of the Titans
If CGI makes an action film less of an action film (and I agree with that), stop-motion SFX do too. Especially so for Robocop with its terrible stop-motion robots.
**screams** Just lost a fairly long comment I was in the middle of writing. Basically, 1) 300 was shit, however you classify it; 2) Any list like this I might make would be mostly made up of Hong Kong action/wu xia from the 70s/80s (The Killer would probably be at the top of the list); 3) I prefer the original Mad Max to its sequels, but can't disagree too much with your top 3. I'm afraid you'll have to imagine the other insights I had to offer, cos I can't be bothered retyping them.
Hmmm controversial as ever. It's a great list but 3 of your choices are scifi movies aren't they? (T2, The Road Warrior, Robocop). To para-quote Rambo: "Vaughan - I'm coming to get you". Yes these lists have smoked me out. All 3 of you are hopelessly wrong, I must do one in retaliation.

Oh, I need to see Face/Off again! I remember loving it at the time. Gross though it was. I was going through my Nicolas Cage obsession. Don't judge me!
@@Yesica1993LOL. No judgement from me. I do recommend both the Raid movies, if the incredibly over the top violence is in your comfort zone. The fight scenes are balletic in their movement.

A top ten action movie video from Michael? I’d buy that for a dollar!
Predator. Predator. Predator.
1. Rambo II
2. Predator
3. T2
4. Cobra
5. Die Hard
6. Commando

9. Lethal Weapon
10. Point Break

Greatest action movie, hands down, to come out of Hollywood is Alien 2.

If there are no rules, I'd have to put Saving Private Ryan and maybe some other war films on the list as well.
Your list is definitive. Not only are the movies the greatest action movies ever, but they are all foundational to the genre. Great job.
I’m surprised to not see the 1982 Arnold classic, conan the barbarian.
Great video, as usual ,Michael. Your Choice of movies Is Second to none.
Wow. This is such a difficult category to narrow down to 10. Some of your choices are on my top list: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rambo Series, Road Warrior.

Highlander is Epic!! I'd be interested in hearing what your opinions are on the 10 greatest novel to film adaptations, or your top 10 greatest comic book adaptations.
❤ for the Hong Kong movies. I think i would have chosen Hard Boiled over The Killer but it could depend on what day it is. Great list
The greatest action movies starred Terence hill and Bud spencer.
That is a great list! I guess I never thought about when the shift from mostly real stunts to mostly CGI took place. Although clearly from CGI era, but I would consider adding The Dark Knight to the list.

Your “Kitchen of Adventure” looks remarkably similar to my “Scullery of Escapades”! Uncanny!
You'd mentioned 'First Blood', which I agree is great. Just wanted to point out the book by David Morrell is also excellent.

A well-considered list! Very proper that Hong Kong flicks appeared twice, they once really knew how to make them.

I am so into "Action Kitchen"! I think all it's missing is MiniRoger. Or, maybe you can just bring his skull with you? Or maybe just his lower jaw?
This is the definitive list. All other film lists are merely commentary.
No Steve McQueen?
Bullet, Magnificent Seven, Great Escape, the Sand Pebbles.
great list, mine would be 10 jackie chan films!
‘Police Story’! Good shout out.
A couple of my favorites are the Bourne movies and Gladiator. Are you not entertained?

I'm not a huge action fan, but I suddenly have a Woo/Killer shaped hole in my brain. Must track it down.
Awesome List! Would be fun to create my own.
We don't need no stinkin' rules. :P Thunderdome is cool tho.

A Force of One only got a gun and a half!? It's got Chuck Norris AND Bill 'Superfoot' Wallace! So, err,...yeah.

Interesting that three of the most universally acknowledged great action films are sequels: Rambo II, T2, and Aliens.
Oh, four, because the Road Warrior.
Yes, you need to watch Highlander the TV show. There's a character introduced in Season 3 that I think may become a favorite character of all time for you.

Gee, I guess _It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World_ (1963) just barely missed the list. 😉😀
Barely!
The way I understood it, special effects = practical effects like makeup and wire harness. Visual effects = CGI.
Mad Max: Fury Road deserved a place on the list, I think. Also, while it is not an action movie, the single greatest action sequence in a movie is, in my opinion, the chariot race from Ben-Hur.

1 Clash of the Titans
Wait… old or new Clash of the Titans?
Definitely the old Clash of the Titans, staying in the realm of the Golden era of action films. 😂
BTW. Michael, do you have a PO Box?
No. Just a Manor house with a killer mummy.
If CGI makes an action film less of an action film (and I agree with that), stop-motion SFX do too. Especially so for Robocop with its terrible stop-motion robots.

Not a bad stab at it but ditch Woo for Aliens and you're getting closer.
Don't do Steve!! Keep your kids off Steve!!
Raiders absolutely....and Die Hard 1 & 2 ,,best Xmas movies (my fav is 2) thanks
I like the action movies from the 60s better.
I didnt even know #1 could be classified as an action movie. I mean, I'll take it.
