I think Conan, despite not having a good command of English and a heavy foreign accent, would become famous as a bodybuilder, then become one of the world's biggest action stars, marry a Kennedy, and become governor of California. Just call it a wild hunch.
There was another where Wolverine went to the Hyborian age, cut off one of Conan's hands and stayed the Hyborian age while Conan took WOlverine's place on the moon during the Dark Pheonix saga.
I actually own the first What If with Conan. Which wasn’t bad. I didn’t even know there was a second issue! Great review and thanks for covering this one Michael! Conan the Petty Criminal, coming to you soon from the talents of L. Sprague de Camp!
If Conan found himself in the 1930s, he would team up with Tarzan, Doc Savage and Indiana Jones. The four heroes would embark upon the Starkweather-Moore expedition to Antarctica, where they would battle some shoggoths!

@@TheNineteenthCentury Yes, it is! Sam Moskowitz put out "The Crystal Man" (1973) in which many of Edward Page Mitchell's works were published together in book form. I like him. He's wonderfully quaint and of his time but he also has some very compelling concepts. He was a clever lad. 😏

It'd probably be something like what happened to Jonah Hex comics. Jonah Hex started out as this badass gunfighter... but then DC decided to transport him to the future, where he's this Mad Max road-warrior, using his gunfighter skills to blast robots with ray guns and stuff. Conan would probably quickly adapt to whatever weapon he was given. Or, he'd pull out his sword and some underfed dork would shoot him dead. You just never know...
Loved "What If?" and I hadn't thought about the Conan stories in years! The first one (where he gets back to where he belongs) was one of the best comics I had read!
Still have the original run issue of this in my collection. I really enjoyed the artwork, and found the story to be a fun ride, and agree with you on who won the Cap fight.
Totally off topic but Jeff Lemire and Mike Deodato did a series called Berserker Unbound a few years ago that covered a similar premise. The barbarian in it didn't become a pimp but the story was pretty good and the art was amazing. It was worth a read. Since I always considered Conan to be a near superhero the outcome of the fight didn't surprise me especially given Conans savage fighting style and speed. Plus Conan is not above cheating. Given the era he came from all battles were life and death.
Ha! This was a fun issue. I’m still waiting for the big screen adaptation of Conan The Pimp.😂 Marvel did continue this storyline with Savage Avengers. There’s also Conan vs Wolverine and Thor. Not to mention Red Sonja and Spider-Man.
I guess we are going to have to wait until next year to see the review of Conan Vs. Groo, or the Savage Avengers. I can't wait to see Conan goes to the X-Men prom episode. You think L. Sprague de Camp was bad, wait until you get a peek at modern Marvel. 🤣
Marvel couldn't decide if the Super Soldier Serum made Cap just a top conditioned athlete or gave him lower level super strength. If the former, Conan could handle him, even if Cap still had a healing factor and nearly unlimited stamina. Heaven only knows what they're doing with Cap these days!
With Conan tendencies of self righteous judge against what he perceived as wrong. He would be recruited as a Cop. So long as he is willing to ignore civil rights.
Funny this came up after I read this morning 'What If....? Donald Duck Became Thor'. Not to be confused with the various Amazing Spider-Man cover only Disney/What If crossover variant covers. Can be confusing I have to remind myself I do have such and such omnibus when you show them off. I get the actual reprinted cover versions rather than the new art. Those What If.....Conan issues feel very much the opposite when you take in to account the Savage Avengers and Battle for the Serpent Crown from the recent Conan @ Marvel run. Those first two runs of What If? were great. Now they pretty much bring back the title every once in awhile feels like these scripts from an event comic and cash in on the ideas they decided not to go with.
Maybe he wouldn't have been thrown in jail, if he had been wearing his blue shirt! 😂His language skills have always been a sign of how sneakily smart Conan is. The pimp outfit was very "Tony Montana' 80's style! 😂 Love the barbarian "horned helmet" one of his Street Gang members is wearing LOL. I take books like this, as just good clean, silly fun! This issue was a pre-Savage Avengers for sure... took them so long to follow up on Cap's wishes though. I liked the outcome when I read this as a young man; I know Cap is a super soldier, but Conan fights for his life everyday. So he does have some experience in fighting foes better than him. Conan beats Cap? mmmmmm.. I believe it! 🤣🤣🤣 Conan fan for life brother, you know me! Skol ~ Son of Crom
I love Conan, but I feel like Cap would still wipe the floor with him. Cap's super strength is the result of that crazy super-soldier serum and Conan - ridiculously tough as he may be - doesn't have anything truly "superhuman" about him. Also, seeing him in that pimp suit almost made me do a spit-take.
Okey maybe it is me but that sounded pretty stupid. Conan in the few stories I have read was smarter than this version and more a stealthy thief than some thug. Also he doesn't strike me as the type of man who would stay in the same city for long.
I am not too aware of how violent Marvel comics were when this came out.Was seeing Conan cut Captain America’s arm like that a really shocking moment for the time or was this back when comics started to get more bloody? Really enjoying Cimmerian-September!
I really enjoyed the first run of “What If?”. I think it made sense that Conan could hold his own with Captain America of that era.
I think Conan, despite not having a good command of English and a heavy foreign accent, would become famous as a bodybuilder, then become one of the world's biggest action stars, marry a Kennedy, and become governor of California. Just call it a wild hunch.
"Now, one thing about Conan, (and this is true)..." OMG, I LOVE IT.
There was a Marvel What if...where Conan fought Wolverine and kicked his a...😮
There was another where Wolverine went to the Hyborian age, cut off one of Conan's hands and stayed the Hyborian age while Conan took WOlverine's place on the moon during the Dark Pheonix saga.
Conan winning is correct. It just is

I have this issue. Always figured that he became the governor of California in it!

A great - and very funny - review of this comic. "It's 1984 but he's dressed like it's still 1974." Brilliant 🤣😂
Street Piump Conan is something I never thought I needed in my life till now. XD
Conan got his pet leopard from Tony Montana
Conan dressed as a pimp had me rolling with laughter!

Conan, the pimp...needed that laugh today. Thanks

He would become Doc Savage.
Conan stranded in the 20th century is one of my favourites!

I always thought that the second "What If?" should have been an issue of "Not Brand Echhh!".
the strange thing is Conan, Batman, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Tarzan and like fictional coves never actually die unlike us mere mortals !
What If... Bêlit had lived?
He would become a Talk Show Host
I'm not sure if Conan the Salaryman still exists on Twitter/X.
Conan in the 20th century is basically Jack Reacher. their characteristics are eerily similar.

I had both of those what ifs back then. I may still have them. Fun but hocky

Wow! I didn't know this comic series existed! Absolutely love it, but got to admit, I'd want Capt. America to win! 😲

Disco Conan?

Sure Conan is bad, but I don't like seeing him as a crook. Interesting though.
I read that comic and found it to be so cringe that I was afraid my eyes would start bleeding.
I’ve never read this book. Conan doesn’t belong with superheroes
