A question a lot of players will want to know is how the Flamingo, 11SIX24 Power Vapor, and the CRBN Trufoam stack up against one another regarding power, pop, spin, etc.
The behind the back ATP from that amateur was sick but doesn't rise to one of the best shots i've seen by a wide margin. You have to see when he's lining up for that shot that unless he hits it with his left hand or something, then he's about to do something whacky and prepare for the behind the back atp. The dude on the other team did very poorly. Any serious player defends that no problem.
He definitely doesn’t hide his intent, but I still don’t know if the average player would ever expect that to be the shot chosen. Also, why we highlight Feds shot in singles is far superior. Thanks for the feedback!
Hey I have the ktchn sling bag and you can unhook the strap at the bottom and take it off the bag. That’s what I did. That way it’s just one strap. The new backpack is supposed to be in $160 range
Question. I have a Ronbus r3:16 and a J2K I like the r3:16 for drives because it doesn’t hit as hard and I can be aggressive and I don’t hit balls out but it’s terrible at the net. I like the J2k at the net but I can’t be aggressive with drives because I’ll hit balls out. Can you recommend a paddle that would do both?
What's the best paddle that maintains spin after months of playing? All reviews I see are for new paddles, they all are very good then, but lose the spin after weeks of playing. Except Reload? ❤
Reload still loses spin. It just allows you to replace the paddle face similar to ping pong. The only paddle I have seen that 100 percent keeps its spin is the Series 1 from Proton. The paddle feels different than a traditional Gen 1 or Gen 2 carbon fiber paddle, but some claim the spin increases over time with their nanotech. We are seeing higher quality carbon fiber and “titanium” surfaces pop up. However, the reality still is almost all of these paddles are going to see degradation over a couple months of playing. Only solution there is if the company offers a warranty to replace.
If you want to really venture out of the carbon face paddles, try the OWL. It has a fabric face that covers the carbon face and a regular core. It was designed as a quiet paddle but approved for competition. The thing about the fabric compared to regular paddles is that although the material may wear away, you still get more of the same fabric/weave which in theory has the same "grit" if one can call that. Since it is not a hard surface where the rough texture is actually worn away, you don't lose the rough texture when wearing out fabric. The only downside for this is that it doesn't handle water very well. But if you live in a mostly dry part of the country then it's not a problem.
For me? The Joola Mod TA-15 because its face was already relatively smooth and it imparted spin via increased dwell from the foam in the core. But of course that contributed to its soon-to-be-delisting
Ben was asked about it - and he said that QD often aims towards the body, so this was warning shot to QD that others can do the same too (and will do).
It’s just an interesting spot because body bags are part of the game. Quang just speeds balls ip that the John’s brothers say are bad shots. Even if he wins the points.
@@JJPickleball - they are, but typically Ben doesn't do that, and perhaps QD over did it - who knows, but we know Ben is cool and composed - so something did trigger him. I would give Ben benefit of doubt (specially so after DQ's unethical behaviour - i.e. using Proton, and not fully honouring his contract)
55:03 Stop calling them 1X 2X and 3X. The X models are the previous line of paddles. They're just TruFoam (which you also spelled wrong in the title) in the 1, 2 and 3 shape. You can see that right on the paddle, there is no X.
Correct on the name. We are using the shapes to reference what people know as other than the TF2 nothing major has changed. I am shocked no one else has called out the title being spelled wrong! Good catch and I appreciate the comment!
@ I understand you're using the names to indicate the shape, but my point was that you can do that by just literally saying "They come in the 1, 2, and 3 shape". Because that's how CRBN released not just their X paddles, but also their original Gen 1 paddles, so it helps people understand that this is a continuation of their companys overall portfolio naming scheme. Kind of like how Ronbus uses R1, R2, R3, and how Volair uses Mach 1, Mach2.
I love the Proton's but they just have the worst stock handles. Very sharp bevels, I have had the butt cap on a Demo Paddle, I was using come off and my friend have had his Series 1 Square buttcap also come off. I have no idea why the handle on the Series One at least sucks so bad.
I hope the new ones have solved this. I haven’t had issues with the handle, I just always seem to have issues with the actual grip. Over grip solves that for me though. Have you warrantied the paddles? I’ve heard it pretty easy to get a new one if an issue like that happens.
I’ll be interested to see if the R2 passes. I have found more issues with the R2 than R1. However, I hope he figured out the core so they both can come out.
I just double checked but looks like he did. I spoke with him while he was watching the bronze medal match and he had 2 with him. The match posted with Jorja they are both using it.
There was a letter from Connor Pardoe stating that Selkirk did have like 20 paddles approved for pay. Selkirk is the one who told them to only use the 008
I believe that was preliminary approvals. Based on Selkirks interviews it seemed they were going to approve any paddles at all. However, this may have been a marketing stunt to promote their new 008. We will see next week.
QD vs Ben Johns. Has nobody actually watched this match? Quang was absolutely hitting it as hard as he could at Ben's chest over and over again at the net in that same point. And everyone is calling Ben Johns out? He just did the same thing Quang was doing.
It’s Quangs entire game. Body bags are part of the game, and Ben clearly wasn’t having issues with it this game. It was just an odd time for him to send a message given the score in my opinion. Also, looks worse because Quang ducked. That one was certainly brewing for a while.
@ It's interesting everyone views things with different perspectives. Ben hit the same shot Quang does all the time. They are terrible banger-like shots. So with the perspective you are giving, it's just part of the game. So why judgement towards Ben for doing the same one time?
Ben was triggered, he was the pitcher throwing at someone's head because they hit a homerun. Fortunately there was no injury, and there's no need for it. Q's just playing pickleball. He can drive all day long just like Ben can dink all day long.
I honestly don't understand why CRBN went with the 1 and the 3 shape. They should have just made the 3 with a 5.5 handle and shorter face, or simply added .25" to the width of the 1 that they decided not to use for some reason.
Well the 1 essentially is exactly what you were saying with a 3 with a shorter face and longer handle. Joola has these shapes in their lineup as well. They are also adding a 4 shape down the road as a true hybrid shape.
Just dont forget , you guys get to play with the paddles, we dont. letting us know release dates would be helpful if you know them. "Be on the look out for" just doesn't help us. lots of paddle decisions to buy or not depend on release dates relative to other paddles. Thanks guys!
We will definitely update as we know! Some of them we don’t know release days and some we aren’t always allowed to say. CRBN did just let us know today we’re allowed to say trufoams come out the 30th
A lot of time we are on embargo’s. We filmed yesterday and asked if we could mention the trufoam release date which is the 30th. We were told no, and then this morning we were given the go ahead after we had already posted. Hope this provides some clarity as I understand the frustration.
Correct. The prism would also be much easier to do this on than the Saga. The point we were bringing up is that all his clothing had the Vatic logo clear as day.
Yes and great call out! Also can’t believe he was the post child for the “we’ll be right back” video montage which was a huge (free?) promotion for Vatic last season
43:33 "Currently can because they're the only ones that have". What kind of stunted smooth-brain logic are you using to conclude that? First of all, any paddle with a gradient on it (e.g. Volair Forza, Ronbus Nova) technically has wayyyy more than 5 colors on it, because there are a nearly infinite number of colors in between the two ends of the gradient. That aside, maybe other companies just haven't felt like making a crowded and flamboyant paddle design with 5+ colors on it because it's lame. I know plenty of people haven't bought Protons for exactly this reason.
It’s their marketing style, and it’s something they are going with. They claim they are the only ones that have the manufacturing process to do so. I am just spreading information I was given from the CEO about the paddle.
@@JJPickleball It's just a patently absurd claim for him to make, because nothing is stopping a company from printing in 1 color, and then changing the colors in the machine and putting the paddles back in to print a 2nd, 3rd, or 28th color afterwards.
I’m trying to show them more love. The J4 has been in my bag the last 2 weeks. However, tournament play will almost always be an elongated paddle for me.
Realistically, Quang Duong would've been fine if he got hit directly in the head by Ben John's ferocious kitchen drive. The pickleball itself weighs next to nothing--and we know it--so stop pretending like it's a big deal and suggests poor sportsmanship--you Karen. Did you forget that they were playing in the quarterfinals of a Masters event for a decent amount of money? What Ben Johns did to Quang Duong was mild and gave free marketing and attention to the sport of pickleball. Ben is a G.
Ball is light but eye injuries are very apparent. Also, these players aren’t playing for much money right now in terms of prize money. Everything is contract based. Definitely good marketing for the tour!
Loving the Dink Tank podcast! Keep up the great work!

Most definitely
I 2nd this comment. Love to hear the comparisons @@JJPickleball
Heard the TruFoam wasn’t as powerful. Probably a little less power than the new Paddleteks, but spin is incredible.
@@samuraistabber Yep, I'm hearing the same. I plan on getting the Vapor and guessing the Flamingo will be more expensive.
@@samuraistabberI am not allowed to confirm yet, buuuuut I can say this may be along the correct lines.
How is the dwell-time/surface feel on the Crbn Trufoam?
Very soft and great dwell
How does the Paddletech TKO-C Spin rate compare to the Project Flamingo?
Both spin rates are over 2000 rpms. I feel the Flamingo gets more dwell time which can help with shaping shots better.
