  • Practical Demonstration of 2 Toy Marker Discrimination.
A dog who can discriminate markers is thinking. They can be flexible with rewards. They pay better attention because they need your information. And they are poised for multiple outcomes which gives you a handle on impulsivity and more control over competing motivators. You might find your dog is more composed, less aroused, makes less mistakes of anticipating. And you have more options for reinforcement in your training.
All reasons to build and often practice a at least a few different reward markers.
By learning that different markers signal different outcomes, the dog becomes more flexible with rewards, reducing impulsivity & increasing focus on the trainer.
Here's Julie Blanding and her wonderful dog, Dim Sum, playing a less formal game of 2 toy discrimination within play, followed by a formal ‘triangle’ setup where she reduces body language helps and moves closer to clear verbal discrimination. Julie Blanding is a knowledgeable and experienced trainer on the East Coast & we encourage you to look her up.
