- Can you still stealth camp with your new motorhome? Are you still able to do urban parkups now you've got a 8 meter motorhome?
These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the questions I get about parking and sleeping with my new motorhome nicknamed "The Land Yacht" which is a fair name considering it's 8.2 meters long, tag axle and weighs 5 tonne!
To be honest it's a justified question because it does stick out like a sore thumb when you see it but that hasn't stopped me in the slightest. I can and still do park here there and everywhere, house estate, streets, industrial estates, laybys, I can do them all even with the bigger motorhome and in this video I take you on a drive along and show you how I find a park up, what I'm looking for, what to watch out for and I show you just how easy it can be done.
Oh and there's some amazing fried chicken in this video too using my latest kitchen gadget, a deep fat fryer!

I'd have spun round so my back lights faced any traffic coming into the road.
Otherwise no issues because you are considerate so unlikely to get moved.

Awww great video, we always struggle to find places to park when we are in more built up areas. We try to keep the whole area clear, motorhomes can get a bad name really quick. We really enjoyed. Have a good day 😊
Great vlog Daz as always. Been watching for years. Only parked on the road twice, but both times OK, once in a layby near Worthing and the second time on an industrial estate in northern Spain due to breakdown so no choice, but a peaceful nights sleep.

You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.

As a motorhomer I would if there was plenty of space and the road could move freely. We have van lifers (middle aged men) that park close to our residential grassed area, what pisses us off is the destruction of the grass and them dumping their colon & bladder contents into the hedges. This just gives every van or motorhome user a bad name.

I would park there too! my motorhome is 27ft so about the same, also tag axle and 5.5ton on the road since 2017. 2000w solar an never looked back. though I do live in Thailand every winter😎 Enjoyed your video.
I've just watched this and your previous videos about finding urban park up places and it's really reassured me about options with my Peugeot Partner style way of doing things. It's literally a normal car so should be 100 times easier than your situation. I've only tried it a few times so far so it's all newish to me.
I love the time and effort that you put into your videos I would love to see you do this in the USA but any one could use your videos to do it in the usa
I've been thinking about doing vanlife full time for a year or two. It's the initial jump into it that's holding me back haha!

Shouldn’t you have parked facing the other way so that you reflectors & lights were on the correct side of the road?

I'm collecting my first campervan today, it's a 7m panel van and next weekend I'm planning on my first park-up around Scarborough and can't wait 😁😁. @davidw3932 hiya mate, I've got to say it was cheaper to insure than I expected. I'm 53 years old, gave zero "camper van" no claims, it's parked on the drive at night with a steering lock, lived in the uk since birth etc and it was £200 fully comp for 12 months 😁👍

Hi Darren, Have you tried making Bullet proof coffee with a stick of butter? I hate milk in coffee, but weirdly like it with butter, and as you say, it fills you up for hours! Doesn’t taste of butter, just creamy! Kerry gold butter is best as it’s grass fed all year round. Haven’t made it for ages as didn’t want to get the big blender out, so love the tip of using the little whisk! And the chicken looked amazing! 😃

Good evening just watched your fryer episode to prevent Samuel Steam and smells put the lid back on because it's got a filter in it and that's why the windows and it's you can see how well your stuff cooking so that would help with the smells and the grease problem it's got a filter built in the lid yeah like the video

Hey Darran, a great video mate. You won't remember me, but I messaged you first of all from China several years ago (near when you started off) - my name is Jimmy. And now, I'm back in the UK, and finally, I've bought a motorhome, not quite as big as yours, a Swift Ducato Bessacarr something or so, lol. Well, 7.66m long anyway - less wheels 😉. Question: do you always park strictly on the road next to the curb or do you go onto the path a tad? I think you know what I mean, obviously I know the path needs to be clear enough for people walking down it. Anyhow, any feedback would be welcome. Btw between you and Gadget John you really have made my embarkation on this adventure so much more doable. I thank you!

If someone parked that outside my house for a month I might wonder what's going on, if it was there for a night? Only an unreasonable person would complain about that.
I free park and have done for the last two years. I thunk you build up a special eye for great park ups. I never stay more than one night. But if you judge it right no one seems to take any notice of you.
Just wondered , if you are parked legally who has the right to move you on? Love the channel.

Darren, I love your channel so please don't shoot the messenger here, but the park up in this video is not strictly legal and it is possible (although unlikely) that you could have had a parking ticket. Firstly you were parked with the offside to the curb and therefore facing oncoming traffic...
You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space. Laws CUR reg 101 & RVLR reg 24
Secondly I suspect your motor home has an unladen weight that exceeds 1525kgs and if so it requires lights at night...
Cars, goods vehicles not exceeding 1525 kg unladen weight, invalid carriages, motorcycles and pedal cycles may be parked without lights on a road (or lay-by) with a speed limit of 30 mph (48 km/h) or less if they are...
1. At least 10 metres (32 feet) away from any junction, close to the kerb and facing in the direction of the traffic flow
in a recognised parking place or lay-by.
2. Other vehicles and trailers, and all vehicles with projecting loads, MUST NOT be left on a road at night without lights.
Laws RVLR reg 24 & CUR reg 82(7)
I understand that this overnight stay caused no harm or inconvenience to anyone but depending where you are in the country the fine could be upwards of £75. Please folks don't attack me in the comments, I am merely stating the facts and trying to be helpful here.

A little knowledge can be a dangerous and expensive thing, so if Darren wants to listen to you that's great. If however he does ever get a fine will you put your money where your mouth is and pay it for him? I think not!

@@jay-nl3gk I posted this comment on Darren's channel and no other because this is where the video is posted giving advice on overnight parking and in my view it's not entirely good advice. These laws exist and telling me to go and lecture real criminals won't make them, or the inevitable consequence for breaking them go away. People come onto this channel in the hope of getting sound advice (just read many of the other comments) and the advice in this particular video is not entirely sound. Now you might not like my opinion but that doesn't change the facts and possible fines in the real world.
@beefabob Really unsure why anyone would take issue with your comment. I saw it as informative which may help Darren (or others) avoid unwanted attention from officialdom. If you're going to park up in urban areas, it makes complete sense to be aware of, and comply with as many restrictions as you are reasonably able.
I'm baffled that when trying to help someone avoid falling foul of laws, it's met with defensive/aggressive responses.

A fascinating insight into an alternative lifestyle. But aren't you risking a very substantial fine (up to £2500!) by parking facing oncoming traffic at night? It's not about observing the letter of the law, but if some grumpy local flags you up to the police it could take a hefty bite out of your income!

The discrepancy in fuel prices is nothing more than we, the motoring public, are being royally shafted every time we fill up!
I no u find places to sleep but how much fuel do u use u be better just paying overnight parking in services u must do more than a £10 in fuel

why would you move just because of the big houses are you scared of people with big houses.?
Usually have driveways they need room to access and roads not quite wide enough to reasonably park that people can easily get past
