If you have trouble connecting via remote desktop, the article in the comments has a typo which does not update the port correctly: Try the command: sudo sed -i 's/3398/3390/g' /etc/xrdp/xrdp.ini At 5:04, the video has an error trying to replace 3389 (not 3398) with 3390. Try the provided command in this comment and rerun the start command:

I'd take one of those stretched out videos, because I clearly missed something somewhere along the way. I posted my question about it under TroubleChoot's pinned comment.
everything works fine except that after login in the remote connection, the screen is blank. just black screen with the blue bar above for closing, minimize, and pin and localhost name

This works for Windows 10, but will you release an update for Windows 11? There seems to be a conflict between xrdp and the window manager built into wslg.
I did all the procedure, and when I go to connect to the remote area, the environment does not appear, the screen is all blue, in this part 6:15. Can you help me?
I funally got around to trying this today (Jan 30 2024, yes I know I'm really late on this) and every time I go to log into Ubuntu in the remote window, a couple seconds after I hit enter the window just closes. So if anyone sees this and has some sugestions, I'd really appreciate the input.
I've had performance issues with RDP, and issues with xrdp and the windows RDP client in general. I prefer running Xephyr along with wslg and launch the desktop environment inside it. It's much much smoother.
Everything works for me, but remote desktop won't connect to localhost:3390. It tries for a while & then gives a generic error message (can not connect for one of the following reasons...). What could be the problem?
Debian is more or less the same as ubuntu, I prefer it because it's more stable and doesn't come with useless crap that ubuntu ships. The same goes with arch but it can be a huge pain at times.
I was able to do it and open the terminal. it brought a small window inside saying, connecting to sesman ip 127..... port 3350, then sending info to session manager, pls wait and login fails... question. the username and pwd are the same (unix) as when setting up ubuntu at install, correct? thanks

i've got a problem when trying to connect to the remote desktop via the remote desktop connection app. In the video he says you have to type in "localhost:3390", but the remote desktop app says that ":" is an invalid character and i can't use it, what should i do?
Thanks for this really helpful. I have one question though. On my windows 10 pro installation. When I try to remote connect, I'm not able to login using my Ubuntu login credentials. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks once again.
localhost:3390 from rdp, gives me an error with optoins 1) this account is not permitted in the list of gateway, 2) remote pc written in NetBios format
Did you previously set a gateway in RDP for something else? Try to telnet into localhost 3390. If you get a blank screen returned then it's running. In RDP make sure no gateway is selected on the advanced tab.

It seems a lot of people have the same problem: every step seems to work fine, but finally logging into the WSL through the RDP seems to fail.

Not super useful to mention that it can be done but not even mention what to change to use a different GUI.
