    I own 5 1100's 1963-1976, shot trap and skeet each with over 300,000 each, still work great, never even replaced the "O" ring on any of them yet.

  • @VirginianSpencer
    @VirginianSpencer 4 года назад +41

    Being as I have had the SAME O ring on my 1100 since 1966 when I replaced the original metal V ring so I wouldn't lose it, I would not call it a weak link. Over 95,000 rounds.

    • @wayneparker9331
      @wayneparker9331 3 года назад +4

      @@douganderson7002 Actually, quite easy to do. If you go trap/skeet shooting 12 times per year (or about once per month) and shoot an average of four strings of 25 shells apiece, then you get 1,200 shells through the firearm in a year. I know because I've done just that for five years now. And I know many people who shoot trap and skeet far more frequently and with far more shells consumed per range trip than I do. And yes, I've used the same Remington 11-87 for all of those shoots.

    • @koolaidblack7697

      @@douganderson7002 Like the other guy said, that's not that crazy. I used to burn 100+ shells a weekend shooting just by myself. 400 shells a month, for at least late spring and the entirety of summer, plus occasional shooting during the other months. That being said I do agree with you, it's hard to imagine an o-ring from the mid 60's lasting that long in good working order even if the thing wasn't fired at all.

    • @78tag
      @78tag 2 года назад

      @@douganderson7002 You might want to do a little research before poping-off like this. We have slowed down due to the ammo shortage and expense (thanks Obama you POS) yet I still average 600+ rounds, shooting trap, a month with my 1100 Competion model. Do the math. I do have some cycling problems with some of the manufacturers rounds but no problems with the club's reloads. It helps to find a shell that you like and stick with it. I haven't done it for 50 years but I know shooters that have used them almost that long. Great gun. I replace the o-ring regularly just for grins.

    Great video. I have one and love it.
    Little tip: getting the mag spring and cap out and back without it shooting across the room or deflecting in all directions when putting back: insert your cleaning rod into the hole when taking out. Same for reinserting. Thread the cap and spring over the rod, insert into mag tube and simply slide it all down the shaft. Thank me later.🤣🤣

    My 12 gauge 1100 has a 28 inch modified barrel.
    My father bought it brand new from Neal Hardware in Millen, GA in December 1978.
    It was my combination Christmas/high school graduation present .
    He paid $165 for it brand new.
    It has taken everything from deer and turkeys to rabbits and squirrels to doves and quail.
    And it has busted a lot of clay.

Did some barrel swapping and it now has a 19" vent rib cyl. bore, sling and elastic ammo holder on butt stock. Unfortunately, after three eye surgeries think I'll be hanging up the 12ga. guns.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  8 лет назад

      +Nelton Brooks It should shoot semi. As to why it's not racking, it could be a number of reasons. Is it trying to rack back, but isn't quite making it?

    • @mistadotbrooks7552
      @mistadotbrooks7552 8 лет назад

      Sometimes itll rack back and eject the shell halfway and I have to take the shell out and re engage it and sometimes I have to rack it back by hand...it cant be because its dirty because I broke it down and cleaned all the gunk out..

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  8 лет назад

      Nelton Brooks I'm no Remington 1100 expert, but here are some things to try: 1. Try different shells. If you're using low brass target rounds, they might not have enough stank to cleanly eject spent shells. 2. Check whether you're using a barrel meant for 3" or 2 3/4" shells. The 3" magnum barrel has fewer holes between the barrel and the gas system, so it might not work well with 2 3/4 shells. 3. Check for the rubber o-ring, if it's missing maybe that's the issue? 4. Replace gas piston seal rings. You can get the full kit for like $20 from Brownells.

      Another area to check is the gas ports in the barrel. They can get clogged up with fouling. Take a paperclip and clean them out.

      I bought mine New in 1979, plane barrel, 30", full choke for $200. Waterfowl hunting still allowed lead shot other than National Wildlife Refuges( Merritt Island, Fl) back then. The gun has had easily 10,000 rounds put through it and only used for waterfowling. And yes, it's been submerged at least a few times, but thankfully not in the brackish impoundments of Merritt Island. Always sprayed down after all hunts. It has never failed me other than the disengagement of 3 separate bolt-charge handles that vibrated loose and fell into the drink. But all three hunts were saved by inserting the slot-blade of a Swiss Army knife where those handles had fit. Certainly, the barrel is no longer full choke, more likely improved cylinder ☺️☺️. 90% of the rounds ended up being steel when that law became implemented for all waterfowl hunting. It's just been a great gun period.
