    Here is an idea for you. Go on a two night weekend camping trip and show us what you take for meals that are lightweight to carry into the woods, have no refrigeration, minimal cooking utensils, and are still filling and good for plenty of energy and morale.

    • @astyanyx5929

      While this looks good this guy is obviously used to roughing it. I am curious as to how someone that loves their comfort food and well stocked pantry deals with suddenly having to limit what they can have with them for 48 hours. Will they try to take the whole kitchen? Will they go with the obvious basics? Or will they use various clever tricks to get around some of the limits and crank out a gourmet meal that surprises us all?

      How much are you willing to carry? You can make some pretty awesome meals with just sardines and kimchi.

      The key is using background music that doesn't interfere much with the frequencies of the human voice.

      Great point. He uses the suave downtempo trip-hop genre a lot which doesn't get in the way. Then ensures to mix the audio in favor of the voice to add.

    Just a heads up for all of y'all -- flax has to be ground up to be digestible. Otherwise, it comes out exactly as it went in :) Get those primo omega-3's by treating the flax to a spin in the spice grinder.

      Yes, high protein and savory in the jar.

    • @Ferocity54
      @Ferocity54 6 лет назад +11

      I so agree! And high protein that isn't whey based. Everything is always protein powder this or that to increase the ratio.

    • @Macfanize
      @Macfanize 6 лет назад +1

      Ryan Klein I mean you could do this fruit parfait with whey or make overnight oats with whey (or any other protein powder for that matter) and it’d still be good..
      I think when it comes to snacks you’re hard pressed not to use protein powder unless you’re just filling yourself with nuts. Most foods that I can think of that have a lot of protein aren’t typically thought of as snack foods.. but maybe the brother’s can change that perception and make some kick-ass snacks :)

    • @shalini_sevani
      @shalini_sevani 6 лет назад +1

      My high protein bliss balls: dry roast garbanzo bean flour (Chick pea flour/besan flour) in a pan until it has a nice smell and is a few shades darker, dry roast rolled oats, add tahini and rice malt syrup to taste (dried fruits optional), roll into balls.

    • @monkiram
      @monkiram 5 лет назад

      @@shalini_sevani Your recipe sounds kind of like this traditional Egyptian dessert, which is just a mix of tahini and molasses to make a paste and eaten by dipping pita bread in it. It's so good and also healthy!

    The really awesome thing about this recipe IMO is that if you substitute the fruit for a homemade lower sugar content jam and don't turn the coconut into yogurt immediately, all three of the main ingredients here (granola, unopened coconut, jam) last 4-6 months, so it's really easy to just hold onto a bunch of them

      Try making Cocada- it's 14 oz shredded coconut + one can of sweetened condensed milk. I add an egg so it holds together, then I add chocolate chips and slivered almonds because it's like a much better almond joy. Use a cookie scoop and place them on tin foil or directly on the pan and bake for 20 minutes or so at 350.
      Easier, and I would argue better than a macaroon.

    Lovely. Thanks for this. Just a note on whole flax. If you are eating for nutrition, whole flax seeds are poorly digested and the body can't get at the nutrients. Use ground flax as a sprinkle on top of your bowl instead if you want to be able to absorb it :) I will be making this one for sure!

    My granola...
    Coconut shreds, sunflower, hemp, buckwheat, chopped pecans , and slivered almonds. Sometimes I use mixed nuts. My granola is really nuts and stuff. I use butter and sweet also -- it makes a huge difference. I also add egg white to make larger chunks. We make fruit yogurt every day. We use homemade whole milk yogurt. I started with Fage 5%. I am now fermenting my yogurt in the holding jars. Less fuss.
    That ice cream scoop tip for the coconut is really great. Never tired coconut Kiefer.
    The fruit bottom I use is just plain fruit (berries).. Nothing else. I will try adding lemon. I used to make pan cooked apples all the time. I haven’t done it for years.

    I recently started to add desserts/snacks into my lunch packs and this is a great idea I will try out soon. I will probably use Greek yogurt instead just because I like it and I never was too much of a coconut fan.
    When I saw the jars I directly thought about a video I saw recently. And in japan you can buy frozen cakes from vending machines. And one of them sold them in a jar. And this video here made me want to try it out at home. I mean it's basically just a frozen cake. Just make a sheet of cake use a cutter to get it into the shape of the jar. I want strawberries so maybe I can make a sirup to infuse a bit of it into the cake. Layer some strawberries on top. Then put whipped cream on top depending on the jar I might even be eble to make a second layer.
    And I read whipped cream can freeze for 3 months. So I can take one every morning and at lunch time I have a nice cake as dessert.
    Damn I'm genius! I have to do some shopping tomorrow!
    And I guess you can use a variety of cakes and toppings. Self-made marmelade might also be nice when you can't get fresh fruits.

    I followed this recipe but changed a few of the ingredients to make a more savory bacon granola- I’d been saving the fat from the bacon I fried for my daily breakfast sandwich and swapped the butter out for that previously mentioned rendered fat. I also swapped honey for maple syrup and omitted coconut entirely. I threw in whatever nuts and grains I had in the pantry (I can’t remember what all was in it but I know the bulk was oats and walnuts) and baked it as he did. It’s pretty good!!!

    Dude, I modified your recipe a bit as I could not find buckwheat. I ended up making a Fantastic batch of granola.
    Some context: I used to hate the granolas in the super stores here in the states. I used to import mine from India, they have a couple of good ones with less than 2g of sugar.
    Thanks to you I can make my own at home :D; will no longer have to import it.
    Following you recipe and making Yogurt now. Fingers crossed.
    Love your videos. Keep up the awesome work.

    Hi Mike-thank you for your videos I have learned so much! Can you use any bottled kefir or kombucha for the coconut yogurt?

    i replace butter with coconut oil, that way i don't have to use it in the granola and it still has that nice taste of it. Although i use this for granola bars

    Hey, thx for your job, you can use a clarified butter in your recipe cause it will support much higher temperature without burning. 120°c(248°f) for standard butter and 250°c(482°f) for clarified one !

    Those look so good. In my grocery stores in my little town you are unable to get coconut, and Kefir unfortunately. I would love if you could do more simple recipes for the week. Wishing you the best of luck in Montreal

      If you eat dairy, you can make your own yogurt with milk and a bit of live active yogurt. Hopefully you can find those in your area.
