IT STILL MATTERS - LYRICS
Watching the parade on the news last night
I was one that walked that road before
When everything feels like its crumbling
Like the writing's on the wall
But dreams are broken, mended and they scatter
Like seeds they fall and then the fruit is gathered
It always was and always will, be a struggle to fulfil
Stay strong and heed the call
It still matters to me
I hope it matters to you
First principles: concrete action reconciliation no more talking fix the system stop keep it strong and give it purpose stop complaining look at nurses. No material privation in the fine open cut nation blinded by the infant me whose appetite is never filled, whose appetite is never filled till every living thing is killed the selfish few still fight for more in a planet smashing selfish war
We all take an escalator to that Woolies in the sky
To reprise Dante's inferno no longer in disguise
Across a windswept open plain some still go against the grain against the waste the opulence, subtle sneaking creeping up on ya. Breaking bread on the riverbank washing nappies at the water tank, happy clappy days are numbered, tumblr grindr drag you under, mixed emotions cost us dearly years of self-absorption really, electric cars and white gazebos, gadgets that can't save our world where one side has an excavator the other has a wooden spoon, self-centered slick celebrities are crowding out the room, it is obvious inglorious self-evident laborious so tame this monster once and for all, name it shame it rearrange it so the dream becomes the real and we can feel and we can see
Now in this moment we oppose it we'll deplore it we'll repose it reimagine recompose, make it happen now make it close
This is dignity, there is hope, there is light at the end of the road, And it still matters to me I hope it matters to you

❤HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETER GARRETT❤Born April 16 th 1953,Wahroonga,NSW AUSTRALIA❤
Peter, Midnight Oil influenced me so much as a youth, and inspired me to want to make a difference in this world. Now my daughters (both aged under 10) frequently request that I play them this song (along with some of Midnight Oil's greatest hits) and genuinely ask questions about the lyrics and their meaning. You are still influencing the next generation with your songs and have truly made a difference.
Thank God we have have still have people with a social conscience in this land like Mr Garrett.
This man is an Aussie Legend❤Saw The Oils,3 times, one of the greatser band from the Red Country
Better than most Oils songs. You came back together only to disband again. This time I know it’s the last.
Thank you for all your work Peter. Very appreciated all your efforts to make this world a better place with the messages of Oil's music and now your solo project. From Mexico I send all my admiration and interest in following the steps of Oil's music to try to save what it remains
Back better than ever, We need you Peter!! You reach more people with your powerful messages in music! Keep on rocking and being you !!
Thanks Peter, this message will now (NOW!) resonate with so many more people. There is dignity, hope, and light at the end of the road....still gonna be a long road, but we're on it now. Much LOVE to all.
What a great message, great images. A story for us all in this song
I've always felt that Peter Garrett could hold a stage every bit as well as the Boss & Bono. This song, this video simply confirms that thought.
I’ll take PG and MO over U2 and BS every single day.
...from the heart. Everything Peter Garret puts out is firmly grounded in integrity and empathy.
The Oils were a special musical and political gift - not only to Australia but to the world.
Very good
Peter, Brazil love you and Midnight Oil.
Welcome tô Brazil Mr.
bautiful video, full of meaning as always.
Great music, great message
2 greats r not make a wrong ,: -D
There are only 3 words, Thanks Peter awesome
Great song. Wish Peter was a Yank. Cheers from a cog in the American Machine. "Good on ya" 😉
Yanks, individually, are wonderful people. I was a travel agent, used to organise them in for holidays in the 80s. However, put them in a little group and they, collectively get odd ideas....
❤ it sure does
Peter...Oils...please! You are a great artist and spokesman, but remember the heritage and message you all represented.
once more another brilliant in your face song with such a provocative message....massive respect Peter.
Such a good message in this song!
Brilliant i remember listening to you, I think it was sometime in 80's my aunt whom lives in Australia sent a tape and a tour t-shirt wive singles all over it, tape got pinched but still got t-shirt kicking around in wardrobe
Every now and then I remember he can sing.....,.
Still a great song and wonderful gig Peter at Rod Laver. I took my 15 year old daughter and she loved it!
Peter garrett i love you so much, god bless
Thank you Peter. From communities everywhere.
This song is so awesome. Your whole album is, Pete!
Convince the Oils to write a new one. If it's anything close to Vision of Now it'll be killer!!
PETER You are the best
Good to see you back Pete, scream in blue.
The Return of the Prodigal Son...
What's going on with this world, what's going on with people??? Brilliant Album............
Super... Dès 1986 je suis les mecs. Je suis surfer! I love this band!
Welcome back Peter☺
Nice ... "Peter Bob Dylan Garret" ... Definitely put that on the next Midnight Oil album Peter as it will get more traction .. I'm sure there will be one at some stage ... and "SCREAM" it a liitle more to make it more heartfelt ... Maybe the "It still matters to me" part ..."IT STILL MATTERS TO ME!!!!!" (-:
I know it's a loose connection, but showing the rhyming lyrics in this video reminds me of INXS' "Mediate".
Been re-discovering my love of the Oils and just now discovered that Garrett had put out a solo album. He has always sung from the heart, but it's great to hear him get more personal on many of the tracks from A Version of Now.
Thank you for that and for all the dedicated life. I'm a fan and I'm always watching here in Brazil. Hugs, Peter!
Our Bernie !!!

Good to see you're back making music with a great message Peter. The world needs you. From an ex-constituent.
Go Pete, Go!!!!
Really loved it when it was on RAGE at 0900 this morning. And there was another video version of it rocking around. One with words on it.
Wonderfull song ..
Great to see him doing music again even if it isn't with all the oils.
Love it! Love the message! Love the music! Love that Peter Garrett is back! Thanks so much!

I still like this song :) all you can do is try you're best Garrett no one's infallible when it comes to environmental problems that just slip away. Its hard to change but you still did well, but many things were never done, that's why it shouldn't just be in the politicians hands. It should be us making change with our money and practices. We run the country not the politicians, if we were honest with ourselves., and stopped crapping on about our 1st world problems and made the change to see what we do have, instead of feeding our own fascism, and capitalistic ideas and all worked together for once, to develop a better system of living. It would be better economically and environmentally its a process, and you're the influence!
Sensacional !!!!
Awesome song!
this a great album iconic
Love your work Peter Garrett. You've still got it - GREAT SONG
Great song, has a bit of the vibe from Oils' 10,9,8 and Red Sails. Intro is similar to "Outside World", and the rest somewhat like "Who Can Stand In The Way".
I must agree to disagree. How can you make such a comparison ? The early Oils were probably one of the best rock bands ever, full of inventivity, fury and beauty... This is flat and boring, already heard a thousand times before. Please, listen to "Outside World" and "Who can stand in the way" again and then listen to this and tell me what similarities you find because I can't seem to find any.
Sorry for being partial, I'm probably the biggest early Oils fan ;)
I get the "Who Can Stand in the Way" claim but this is still very different and has more of a techno pop feel. I like it. Hearing woman backgrounds is definitely very different.
The sparse, pulsing synth bass intros sound similar (not identical) to me - I've been listening to the Oils for 30+ years, they're my favourite band, both their newer stuff and old stuff, and that comparison is what immediately came to mind when I heard this new track. I've been playing bass for 25 years, and pay a lot of attention to the bass and rhythm of a song without really thinking about it, so that's a major part of what I mean when I compare. The bass lines and rhythm of the vocal delivery in the verses of "Who Can Stand..." also sounds somewhat like this new songs' verses and chorus.
Yes, Garrett's daughters brought a very nice touch to the whole album. One daughter is credited as the drummer on one track too!
I like both early Oils and this song. You have to admit, this could've been a very embarrassing album full of phoning it in and it's anything but.
I'd love to hear this given a muscly Oil treatment on the tour. Can't wait to see you in Toronto!
For someone who used to be so popular in my youth, only 30,157 views now.
Pretty sad, considering what gets 100 million+ views nowdays. Some say it's progress, I say it's cruel.
He made a big mistake a few years ago joining the Labor Party ,, I would say that has a lot to do with it
great lyrics. so relevant
Great Song !!
You absolute champion, what a great song. big ups!
Love the video Peter, keep it up man👍
No time to come and record vocal for new Midnight Oil album, but there is always time to come and record solo album. Wow! And even much more time for touring! Politicians can never be trusted, can they?
saboteur1001 you might want to reconsider
How? Garrett is the person who ruined the best band in the world to record second-rate solo albums in the end... I can't get it.
The best song on the album is an old Oil's song... So why not to spend his precious political time to do the same with the Oils and make better music?
saboteur1001 they are doing a world tour in 2017 and are writing new material
There is NO any NEW album, but box collection of all old albums and some old unreleased material.
he's not a politician anymore
Wow, this is a really wonderful song. :)
na na na nananana na ,:-0
His own stuff, n thats talent ,: -0
Jorge Almeida esse cara canta muito

Should have way more views...
so cool...as usual!
fucking great song
Plus de 37.ooo vues... Yes!
Superb. I would love to photograph you one day.
Very remenicent of Midnight Oil, but not! Great new Solo song, so captive our society at this time.
Thruth. But I stills Matter.
Did you record this at Oceanic with the boys
I yelled at Pete in NYC at Terminal 5 to play this all night long with no success. Awesome, timely song... F Trump!
Good song, need to do one on Julian Assange , free Julian Assange. ❤
it matters to me... this music is not royalty-free isn'it? Right... Peter as well need to eat, have a place, a home...
"One side has an excavator, the other has a wooden spoon"
There's a lot of free advertising on that clip. It's good but not as great if the oils were backing him. The start just seemed a bit shakey but smoothed out by the end.
Armenian flag at 3:29?
I only vote so i dont get fined.
Too much insane consume. Too much corporations. We need more life. Regards Pete, from Uruguay, another little Australia
imagine if he had a voice in politics, the opportunity to actually make a change. Oh hang on he did have didn't he?
yep he did. But one cant change wold alone. He have realised how politic works therefore he stepped down .But it is everybody `s right to try! But OILS and his music makes change to those who knew to listen
trouble is, everything in this film clip is made from oil, gas, coal. Trees come down for us no matter where we live, even for making instruments like an acoustic guitar. We all wear clothing derived from oil or cleared land. We all eat something grown or farmed on cleared land. Most of us live in a house where forrest once stood. We all are watching this on a computer made of plastic and most likely poorly recycled, or phones with rare earth involved. We all drive cars or catch transport made from minerals, that all need mining, and huge energy on multi levels to do so. As much as I wish I had an answer, I'm clueless. Consume less is about good as it gets. Many of my cloths are plastic but are 20 years old. I prefer cotton but big crops, big fertiliser, big water, create a couple years lifespan. Leather shoes are nice, but the land used to farm a cow makes synthetic less impactful. Computer is 13 years old, phone 7 ( out of date, can't update, but still works a s phone), that sort if thing. Not everyones liking, but we can all consume less somewhere.
3:12 to 3:16; A pigeon of Donald Trump; The boy in suit and tie looking down.
1:27, very much like Another Brick in the Wall's chrous, we don't need no education, isn't it?
Shit that's the count of views???
before my time. why did Peter take a fall for insulation?
His heart wasn't in the political game...he had a crack....but then saw the light
sell out
