peter garrett proved to be a total disappointment, working as environment minister for an anti-green corporate neoliberal party and approving fossil fuel expansion. all showbiz talk, no trousers,
And sadly how many young people died in ceilings because of his forced insulation program so many untrained young people in ceiling getting electrocuted getting electrocuted
And 32 years later, this wonderful band of brothers took the stage for the final time in their home town, STILL speaking up about everything important to them. I've known Rob & Jim since 1974. My friends who have done remarkable things... given articulate voice to those of us that would be silenced and created a legacy that every Australian should be proud of and should aspire to. My heroes.
That's cool. My Dad was a history profesor when I was growing up and he always was pointing out the little guys who made a massive splash in history. People like Midnight Oil. They got super popular right about when I was 16. I remember dancing to their music to this day and I can't really dance, let's be perfectly honest here. Not really at all. Very odd. But when their stuff would come on, somehow I could. Maybe it was the groove. Maybe it was the content. Hard to tell.
Those guys had visions - 27 years ago - pretty impressive visionary activism and what a strength - I saw them only once in Belgium back in 1989 - I was deeply Impressed - deeply touched by their Sheer authenticity and tenacity - talent - awesomeness - perfect melodies - Pure joy .
I was there in the front of that crowd. I can't believe I thought of this memory tonight and looked it up. It was a crazy day that I still remember bc I was a Junior in high school in New Jersey. My high school acting class and I drove into NYC on a bus to see a Broadway show. After the show got out, we walked down the street and randomly into THIS crowd. We were right up front. I'll never forget it. On our way home to Jersey that day, our bus got into a bad accident and I ended up in the hospital later that afternoon, while on a school trip. That day is forever etched into my brain. Anyhow, I was just looking for myself and my classmates in the crowd in this video. I might've been that girl you keep seeing with the big teased Jersey hair. 😂
What a great band. Glad I saw them a few years after this. Underrated doesn't describe but there's tons of underrated bands. But these guys were activists for good.
Respect for them, for the environment, for freedom of expression....their words are as relevant today as the first time I heard Beds are burning in late 80s standing on the corner of the street in mid winter waiting for the bus....I never forgot that day..they represent pure energy and love of mother earth... and bonus of all bonuses they meant it...love them then love them now...Message to the Oils...please come back to Montreal.....Anytime anyplace no matter how old I get...
One of those rare bands that doesn’t rely on songs about love and relationships. In fact, I really don’t think they would know how to write a sickly love song.
I wonder if they played "US Forces" during this concert. It's a much stronger song. US Forces have been giving the nod for decades. They never sang a love song in their entire career.
Progress, Sometimes, Dreamworld, Blue Sky Mine, River Runs Red, and Instant Karma are on the VHS Black Rain Falls. There were apparently 2 more songs played that day before The Man shut them down.
Wasn’t Rex Tillerson the CEO of Exxon during Valdez? Didn’t Trump appoint Tillerson Secretary of State? Rewarding bad behaviour? How to explain this to our kids?
Amazing how years earlier U2 played where the streets have no name on a roof in Downtown Los Angeles California and the video coreography and sound quality are greater than this Midnight Oil Video Recording years later! And yes i was there in Los Angeles while U2 played months later I met Aide Torres Acevedo la pirruña from Colima in South Central Menlo Park Los Angeles California Lowembraű Beer La Papa Loca Burritos My Sharp Boombox the 80's awesome days!
Here's the dif; U2 - choreographed video on a roof in LA. Oils - guerrilla raid in the streets of New York City with the police trying to shut them down.
There is nothing fucking left about this, its not even political it's about our planet and the people. The problem exists with policy and ends with you.
Love their music but so many people are mislead on the human imposition on the environment. We'll all be in trouble on the next Krakatoa type volcanic explosion - what you goin' to sing about then. I hope we can still sing, enjoy music, and have discourse about important topics but hope we can realize we are very small on the environment - we'll see how climate change based on carbon emissions of the human population is pretty insignificant come next - Volcanic/Tsunami/Earthquake /Fire - we are insignificant in this world - the plants and insects will take over pretty quickly.. So stay the course and be god peoplt to each other before the next big one it will happen.
+K Mac Humanity is the proximate cause of the Sixth Great Mass Extinction in geologic history. An event on par with the meteor impact that killed the dinosaurs, 61 million years ago. Not on par with a volcano, that causes a decade or two of climate fluctuation, or an earthquake the knocks down a few buildings or makes a tsunami. There are several orders of magnitude between the environmental effects each causes. Deny all you want, the facts exist despite your refusal to recognize them.
This band makes me SO proud TO BE Australian!
This band makes me proud to be human, regardless of what other do to disgrace us and destroy the planet.

James Moginie is a genius! Rock In Peace Bones brother!
2:41 hard to find the whole original documentary film… it was one of the best music political action videos I’ve ever seen.
27 years on and this song is more relevant then ever. That's 27 years lost.

These should not be forgotten years.
This is the single most important statement anyone could make
Why can't they hear us screaming, go Extinction Rebellion

Those guitar lines at the beginning of the song gives me shivers on my spine. The oils for ever!
We NEED The Oils now more than ever.

They are all love songs - for country
No Australian band would have the balls to do this these days
Well first of all they'd have to be good enough

Wasn’t Rex Tillerson the CEO of Exxon during Valdez? Didn’t Trump appoint Tillerson Secretary of State? Rewarding bad behaviour? How to explain this to our kids?
Now they need to do the same in front of the BP oil company.
You should not judge at all because they are good singer and no body else is complaining just only you
How switched on that young man was.

Oils - guerrilla raid in the streets of New York City with the police trying to shut them down.
@@marktele8061 YES THAT IS TRUE!
U2 made a video clip and mimed to the backing track. The oil's were live. It was a completely different thing.
And nothing changed. Everyone go home. The TV is on.
