Greetings from Ontario! Here an hour early. This has become one of my fav series on RUclips. I think I enjoy this movie more every time I watch it. As much I love Toby and Andrew for different reasons, I really think Tom is both a great Parker and Spiderman. Which we really did have before. Toby was a good Peter but didn't find his humor or "jokes" he tried to make while Spiderman that great, where Andrew was the opposite. I think he was a good Peter, I guess, but he seemed too "cool" to be Peter.

I know you mentioned it last week too but the score for this movie/these Spider-Man films is one of my favourites in the MCU it's SO GOOOD. Giacchino said once he was gonna ramp up the Spidey theme and make it bigger and grander with each movie so I'm excited to hear what he does in No Way Home.
Also I thought the drones were capable of actually shooting fire and bullets etc. We see them causing real physical damage a bunch it's not 100% an illusion. So when Spidey see's his webs burn up for example I just assumed there was a drone that had a flame thrower on it or something

  • @Dohsoda
    @Dohsoda 2 года назад

I actually enjoyed ":Far From Home" even more than "Homecoming". Both are really good, but I think the fun factor is upped in this one. Also, I think the unsung hero of these two solo Spider-Man movies is the composer, Michael Giacchino. His scores really fit the tone and characters of these movies very well.

Just gonna mention this theory that I'm not confident will happen but will not be surprised if it does:
What if in No Way Home, Doctor Strange (who seems like Strange to me in the trailers) is revealed to be Mysterio is disguise, and all the "actual Multiverse" and alternate versions of Spider-Man villains are another illusion.
    That would be insane....

I will say even though I think Far from Home is a better movie slightly, I do think Homecoming is funnier because some of the jokes mainly in the first act could get awkward at times. Also I wish they gave Marisa Tomei more to do, like have her be supportive of Peter as Spider-Man while also being worried that he might get hurt. Continuing off the ending to Homecoming instead of the usual “Hey Peter, your aunt is hot!” jokes.

But Peter was already Spidey before Tony. The morals instilled in him by his family makes him the hero he is.
I really hate how much the MCU makes his journey defined by Tony. Tony brought him in because of how much he already was a full hero.
Having him regress so that Tony can teach him a lesson always rang false to me.

They added some scenes, removed some scenes, put scenes back into their original order to illustrate how much the Black Suit is affecting Peter, and the recycled music from the first two films is completely gone and replaced with Chris Young's original score. It's also two minutes shorter. It depends on how you feel about SM3 on whether you like the cut or not but it is a better version. You know I’ve seen people crap on Far from Home a lot recently, but I feel like the hate is a bit unfair and it’s a marginal improvement over Homecoming for me. I know Jon Watts kinda gets lump into with Peyton Reed and the Captain Marvel directors in terms of MCU directors with no particular style compare to like James Gunn or Taika, but I thought he stepped it up for this one in terms of the action sequences as you can tell he’s gotten used to it whereas Homecoming, you could tell he’s new at this. Especially that Mysterio sequence, one of the best scenes in not just the MCU and but in any Spider-Man movie. Interested to see how handles it with not just No Way Home but with Fantastic Four coming up.

I agree about Zendaya, I thought she had much more to do here and her chemistry with Holland is charming and adorable. Honestly rewatching these movies, their chemistry reminded me of like a combination of Garfield & Stone and Maguire & Dunst.
The Garfield and Stone comparison because it is that cutesy back and forth between two awkward people, but IMO it’s not as cringey and more natural like how real teenagers talk. And the Maguire & Dunst comparison in terms her character is reminiscent of Mary Jane in the first Spider-Man, where Mary Jane is basically the party girl at school and with friends, but it’s really a facade and you realize she has a shitty home life and she feels more comfortable being herself around Peter. Once we get to the bridge scene, that’s where I started to like Zendaya’s version, cause behind all the dark & edgy jokes and responses, when she’s around Peter, she’s just as awkward as he is and once it was revealed why, it adds dimension to her character and makes her more likable. I know some people crap on Zendaya’s MJ but I really like her in the role and I’m interested to see how their relationship grows in No Way Home

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis 2 года назад +2

I think people tend to shit on Zendaya's MJ because she's not the traditional Mary Jane. I'm okay with her being a new, unique take on the character, but the way they "revealed" her at the end of "Homecoming" felt super-forced. They could've just made her "MJ" from the very beginning, as opposed to naming her Michelle. While she doesn't have the traditional traits of Mary Jane, ie. she's the popular, out-going kid; that aspect of her building up an image of herself to hide her inner turmoil and insecurities is VERY MUCH in-character, and something I appreciate. The name-change/reveal is ultimately what I felt was unnecessary to me about her character. Otherwise, she has a very charming chemistry with Tom Holland's Peter. They legit interact like a real awkward high-school romance; neither of them really know what they're doing, but they somehow make it work.

Think about this: Civil War sets up Peter Parker and the villain who is eventually going to ruin his life and push him to the brink of doing a Men in Black memory wipe on the entire universe
I'd say that Mysterio is definitely Peter's archenemy in the MCU

So, idk why ya gotta do that thing where u input "no no u know what it seemed like... it seemed like someone who was acting like Sam Jackson acting like Nick Fury." Its the exact same concept... and newsflash... that "bitch"line was ad libbed by Sam... thats why it seems like Sam Jackson. But its ok just to agree. I get u wanna put your 2 cents in. But you dont have to tack on BS thats tantamount to semantics and make it seem like its your idea. Its bad form man.

I enjoy this movie overall but it totally undercuts its whole message with the scene of Peter in the plane where he's doing all the Iron Man stuff and the ACDC music plays in the background. It's supposed to be about him being his own man, and yet they still try to give him Tony Stark traits which only fuels the whole "Iron Man Jr" criticisms. Worst scene of all of Tom Holland's movies.

    /rantmode: on
Ok, let's talk about THE worst scene in any Spider-Man or MCU movie: Peter Parker in a Dutch jailcell/village.
I'm Dutch, and this scene really pisses me off.
Quick re-cap: Peter fought Mysterio in Germany, gets on a train, passes out and wakes up in a holding cell in the Dutch village Broek Op Langedijk.
First off: There is no way in hell Peter could've end up where he did.
So Peter is unconscious on a train from Germany to The Netherlands.
On this train there are conductors who check for tickets, one of them would've found Peter and tried to wake him up.
So, scenario 1: Peter wakes up.
He has no ticket and is clearly foreign. Police will be contacted and be waiting at the next station on the track.
Peter will be taken off the train and be detained in order to confirm his identity, quite possibly the US ambassy will be contacted to do so.
After his identity has been confirmed he'll be paying a fine for being on the train without a ticket, and put on a flight back to the USA.
Scenario 2: Peter doesn't wake up.
Police and an abulance will be contacted and be waiting at the next station on the track.
Peter will be taken off the train and to the nearest hospital, where doctors will examine him in order to get him to wake up.
While the doctors take care of Peter, police will try to establish his identity.
Once Peter's identity is established and he's feeling well again, he'll get a fine for riding the train without a ticket,
and be on the next flight to the USA.
If for some reason the train doesn't make an unscheduled stop to deal with this, they'll deal with it on the first scheduled stop,
which in The Netherlands for this train is Utrecht. Utrecht is about 60 miles south-east of Broek Op Langedijk.
If, by some miracle, no-one finds Peter until the train reached it final stop, he'd be in Amsterdam, which is 30 miles south of Broek Op Langedijk.
Also, the police wouldn't have taken him to Broek Op Langedijk, they'd've taken him to the nearest policestation.
And Broek Op Langedijk has no trainstation.
So can anyone explain to me how an unconscious Peter managed to stay hidden, get off the train at the final stop and travel 30 miles by bus to
    Broek Op Langedijk?
Secondly: The depiction of Broek Op Langedijk and it's people.
1: Dutch holding cells don't look like that. In Dutch police stations people are contained in individual cells.
This is to prevent them from collaborating or hurting eachother.
These cells are small rooms with thick metal doors, not areas with bars.
2: No-one in The Netherlands wears the shirt of our national soccer-team if there's no match of the national team that day.
People do wear shirts of their favourite soccer teams, which in this case probably would've been Ajax, who hail from Amsterdam.
3: Broek Op Langedijk is a fairly modern village that looks nothing like the movie makes it look. (see link to Google Streetview below)
There are a couple of villages throughout The Netherlands that still look like a bit that, either because they are outdoor museums* or tourist-traps,
none anywhere near the track the train took though, so just as unlikely for Peter to end up in.
And we don't allow cattle to roam the streets freely, so the goat and the cow they put in this scene wouldn't be there.
(I know the scene was filmed in Spain, but they could've put more effort in making it look like The Netherlands, because this is insulting.)
    /rantmode: off
*There are a couple of villages in The Netherlands that are labelled as 'museum', this is so they can be preserved and teach us about how things were in the past.

This was another extremely enjoyable episode. :-)
Personally, my main issue with this movie is that the first 40 or so minutes felt like a complete "waste" to me. Spider-Man has always been my favorite hero growing up with and I was very much aware of who Mysterio is and that this *had to be* some kind of illusion. I think that this movie is way better for someone who didn't see the obvious twist coming, but as a long-time comic book reader that wasn't willing to check out their brain at the entrance of the cinema, it felt like a whole lot of build-up for absolutely no reward.
It was like watching a M. Night Shyamalan movie when someone else had already spoiled the twist for you - not all that enjoyable.
I think that the first confrontation between Spidey and Mysterio was the highlight of the movie. This was CGI done in the best way possible, it felt surreal (as it should have - it was all illusions after all) and it had a killer ending. While I'm not sure I agree with everything that came after that, especially how it was set up (apparently when you're Spider-Man and a high speed bullet train is running you over, you will just magically end up inside the train with no visible scratches or anything), the movie overall has a lot going for it. I tend to dislike the Spidey movies where Spidey wants to cop out and not deal with his responsibility - I think him understanding that, well, with great power comes great responsibility, is THE defining character trait and whenever the movies show him doubting that (Spider-Man 2 also comes to mind), I'm less of a fan.
I can still appreciate a lot of really good things in this movie, but it could never be my favorite Spider-Man movie and I think upon rewatching I'll end up liking it less for all the reasons given above.

I can't think of a movie he's bad in. I hope we get to see an adult Spiderman with Tom in Sony's universe. Since we never saw that. Also it'd be even more impactful cuz we watched him grow up as Spiderman.
