I never knew that there were any variants in the line of M.A.S.K. vehicles, but it turns out there was one, and I now have it.

I had these as a kid when they first came out. There's also a variation on Switchblade (Mayhem's Helicopter/Jet) I believe & also Jackhammer (Cliff Dagger's black truck) The materials used in certain places changed on those vehicles. They look a lot alike but there's a small difference in the shade of color like Thunderhawk that makes it noticable. I'll try to find some pics if you want me to email them to you.

That was really interesting, thanks. The short masks are always a better look and the Spectrum is an absolute classic. I reckon M.A.S.K was probably the best toyline of the 80s in terms of play value. I really wish the line would be reissued because the original toys are really expensive now.
I have no idea why this toy line has never been reissued. Like you say, it was one of the best toy lines of the 80s.

I love your channel. I wonder if you have any thoughts about why MASK is one of the old favourites that hasn't received the modern toy update that so many other properties have. I guess it's due to the cost of doing such intricate vehicles. It's a shame because I think that fans would buy them. Anyway love what you do!!!
Thank you so much. That's a really good question and one that I keep asking. It makes no sense that M.A.S.K. hasn't been re-released in one form or another.
Very interesting. I am also impressed that the Gull Wing Doors/Wings springs work so well on yours. Most I have seen are in terrible shape. Great addition Dean.

Great content and I LOVE the discussion of the variant Thunderhawk. I am restoring some of these vehicle and found a Gator variant that has to do with the changes from the short mask to the long mask. The short mask Gator boat's seats are slightly more forward than the long mask version. Found it accidentally when trying to switch the depth charge launcher from the short to the long mask vehicle. Perhaps the "variants" are a way to show the difference between the short mask/long mask productions?

Never knew this variant. I just checked my Thunderhawk and its the standard one
I imagine that 99% of the Thunderhawks out there are the standard one.

Thanks Luke. I had no idea such a thing existed, but when I was contacted, I was extremely interested. Hopefully there aren't any other variants I'm not aware of as it's difficult enough trying to collect one of everything.

Those short helmet mask models were from the original line-up of merchandise from the manufacturer until they changed to the long masks due to choking hazard issues on children...so very likely this is not a variant per se but the original series of the toyline...
I didn't say the figure was the variant, I'm saying the Thunderhawk is a rare variant (which it is).
@@AllThings80s The figure and mask were bundled with the vehicle in the box, so in some ways, they would share the same genre in terms of toyline terms...if they were really the original production line-up before the choking hazard was addressed, then that may mean all the usual Thunderhawks that everyone is familiar with, would instead be the variant since they came after the original...
@@咖哩余 Not really, because everyone knows that the short masks came on the initial releases. This Thunderhawk is an actual variant due to the color and the tail lights.
I came across one about a year ago. I still have it. Any idea what one is worth?
. They couldn't get the paint mixture right. At a certain point they moved production because of quality problems (paint being one of them).

Son of a bitch! I DISTINCTLY remember my Matt Trakker having the short helmet as a kid….that means I had this variant Thunderhawk. Time to “trakk” one down again! Thanks for sharing this Dean-O🏆
There is a 3rd variant if matt Trakker in his thunderhawk uniform which you may not be aware of.. And yes I have it.

@@AllThings80s I don't know if it could be classed as a variant in the true sense but it was released as "agent Trakker" in the gi Joe 25th anniversary line up.. Cardbabk is a gi Joe card but also has the mask logo on it.

There are 3 rare one red one pink one white lights and red one whit white lights greetings I got 6 off them mad mask customs
I didn't like the long masks as they didn't match up to the cartoon. I had the first version Matt Trakker and Dusty with their vehicles, but got the second version Condor and Brad Turner with the long mask. I was disappointed since that was my favorite character and vehicle.
Yeah, the short masks are far superior.

Hi bro, cool video 👌 I don't know if your aware already, but there is a variant of rhino, most rhino's have gridded lights at the front, and some have plain lights.
I have the variant (clear light thunderhawk boxed)
