I love that alien body, Mads. It suits the TD4 quite well. I like your mish-mash of TD2 and TD4 parts to make it work the way you did, very clever! I hope your camera survived the shooting, looks like you really put a lot into this one. Cars in puddles, cameras getting smashed, ah, the joy of being an RC RUclipsr... Lol!
Thanks Fil! Yeah, it has a bit of TD2 going on. I found with the Alien body, it was possible to use the wide battery tray, so that was a happy accident. I forgot to mention in the video, I had built it with gear diffs, so it was based off your video, I was quite happy with that... He he, camera crash... I busted my Gopro lens in my Top Force video, so now it's enclosed in a sealed box for the jump shots in the future... I actually have a design idea for a new camera mount that I need to work on, he he...
@@madsrcbuggy Yeah these action cameras pay the price for our creative jump shots, don't they? My Insta 360 X3 lasted all of about 3 minutes before I scratched the lens so bad, it had to go back to be replaced. Ugh...
They just put these on sale here as I assume they just are not selling. I still can't bring myself to buy one, even being on sale. The chassis looks neat but trying to cram everything in there and the shortcomings of it needing upgrades to work well right out of the box. I am glad you got you alien built and running around well. I just got the Typhon Grom, you will like that one. Take care Mads and enjoy the Alien!!
Thanks Addam! Yeah, I don't know what the hell happened with this, it was a big hype but then it turned out to be quite bad... I can tell you, it requires quite a lot of redesigning to get how you like it, and even so, there are some real issues. On first run, mine broken in three different places, of course those parts are on three different parts trees, so would have cost a fortune to fix the Tamiya way, luckily I came up with some primitive repairs... Yeah, I don't think I would recommend this one, at least I am happy I didn't pay full price for mine... Yeah, looking forward to that little typhon for sure, could be the best RC for 2024, ha ha!
Super Pedante!!! 🤣🤣 Love it Mads, you hit the nail on the head! Definitely over-complicated with some questionable design choices, I think you probably are a better designer than some at Tamiya! But I agree, it does actually drive very well. The Alien look is fantastic and I gotta say, the editing you did of the vanishing buggy coming towards the camera was first class! That 1/14 scale stuff upcoming sounds like it will be fun. Your future video ambitions with the 1/8 buggies and all those panning shots and cool music is something I'm looking forward to my friend! We just need summer to hurry up and arrive! Cheers! 🍻😎👍
He he, thanks Mark, I have to admit I was genuinely annoyed with this TD4 experience... But at least it was third take on the talk part of this video, so my ranting had become a bit milder, at least... But in the end, it drives nicely and I managed to get some decent video footage, so it's all good... Yeah, I am looking forward to get started onto all the projects, lots going on, and definitely I need some summer soon, this morning was hard frost again, but hopefully one of the last of these for a while, he he...
Nice work Mad’s! Very frustrating when you build a kit and it just doesn’t go together the way you want. It seems you’ve got it all sorted out as it looks to drive quite well!👍😊
Thanks Jeremy! Yeah, it took a bit of effort, but came out alright. I failed to mention it in the video, but many of the mods I did were based on previous videos I had seen, one advantage of getting the kit much later than when it got released... Yeah, I'm happy how it drives, buggies belong out in the dirt, ha ha!
Thanks Uncle Bob! Yeah, I have to confess, I have no memory of this buggy from back in the day... I lived somewhere far away from everything, so I only had a few catalogues to look through, and I had no idea about Hirobo... Also maybe because of that, I could start on a clean slate, just paint it up the way I wanted to, ha ha!
Hey Mads, I like the body you chose for the TD4, it has got some zip to it and did very well on the jump. Seems like you are going to have some great content coming to the channel. Can't wait to see the Xray conversion and out runnig.
Thanks Al! Yeah, I was happy how it turned out in the end, was a bit frustrating with the build, but the buggy drives quite nicely... Yeah, I am really looking forward to start on that Xray. Yesterday I changed diff oil in the Typhon, I have to admit I actually really like working on the bigger buggies, it's a bit more involved... Have a good one, buddy!
Thanks Dom! Yeah, it took some effort to make it look good, and hopefully also perform a bit better... Wasn't so difficult to figure out some steering that is a bit less sloppy than the original, ha ha!
Wow, I really like how it looks.👍 Definitely Alien vibes going on. Nice two tone color scheme too. 😎 I know what you mean about some Tamiya builds, they can be a little over-complicated at times! 😅
Thanks David! Yeah, I've been stuck with metallic green colour schemes for a while, so I was happy to try the matt solid colours, it turned out alright, although I had many issues with it, just like with the chassis, ha ha... Yup, overcomplicated for sure. Happy at least for the steering, I was able to simplify it a bit...
Thanks Wade! Yeah, I was happy to be able to finally manage that Alien build, and with the TD4, it became possible... It was a bit annoying to work on the chassis, but eventually it turned out alright, out in the dirt, where it belongs!
Mads, my first thought was, ALL black??? Then I realized your quirky personality, like mine!! I'd love to try the TD4, but will never be able to afford it. It's down on the list, under the Brat, the Hotshot, and the WPL Jimny... AARMA are bulletproof!! I'd love to Have one of those too... The body of the TD4 now makes perfect sense!! It's cool, and quite a performer.
Thanks Carmine! Yup, definitely I like that dark theme on my RC cars, and I think especially the Alien benefitted from the dark matt look, with a bit of screaming neon, of course! Every personality gotta have some neon, right? Yeah, I think the TD4 should be pretty low on many people's list, at least those you mention, they are more prominent, he he... I'm looking forward to explore my Arrma addiction a bit more soon, and hopefully get it on videotape at some point, also...
Great video Mads. Sorry I missed this pal. I am not encouraged by how this buggy jumps. It is very heavy at the front. Love that body shell on it dude! Sorry you jumped it into the water mate!
Hey Craig, thanks buddy! Yeah, it took a bit of work, but I think the TD4 became a reasonable buggy after all... I don't know why it jumps so nose heavy... At least it was sufficiently waterproof, he he...
Great video Mads! I've always been intrigued by the TD4, but that ghastly body, many design flaws, and Tamiyas blatant rip off of the Avante brand really put me off. But, with a little work and many upgrades it can be a very capable chassis..... the stock suspension certainly works well at least! I love what you done with the body mate, very creative, and a vast improvement on the stock body! I've also seen people use a Marui Ninja body on this platform, which looks superb! You got some amazing action shots there fella, and some awesome slow mo's! It did look to drive particularly well that's for sure, and as always, you didn't hold back! Class entertainment my friend. 🙏 👍 👍 👍
Thanks Yoda! Yup, this chassis IS a big design flaw, ha ha! But as you said, with a bit of work, it can be alright... Definitely needs a different body than the one Tamiya "designed" for it. I'm quite happy with the Alien idea, and with that added bonus it looks even more mean and alien when it jumps, nose down... I did enjoy my run with it quite a lot, actually. One thing I forgot to mention in the video, it has gear differentials, front almost fully locked, probably helped it a lot in the loose gravel...
Thanks Fred! Yeah, I didn't really know where I was going with it, so all I knew was I wanted to go away from metallic, try some matt colours... Worked out alright...

Great presentation and run. Big like👍 I like the vanashing moments.
