Mer' I broke up too, I missed it too, I broke it up too, And I missed it too. Oh, but I would still break up, If I found it good, If good, if beautiful, For my old lover. I was deeply moved by this song after watching the movie 'English Patient'. 'God father', an immortal masterpiece of film history, would have been nothing more than an ordinary rerun without the theme song Speak Softly Love. Likewise, could English Patient remain in my mind for this long without this insanely sweet and sad theme song? I can't count how long I've been wandering in search of the singer and the name of the song. I don't know how grateful I am to meet the protagonist today. Thank you for posting this song. Thank you again from PuSan city, in S.Korea.

      Amor Amor,
      Maldita angustia
      ¿Porque no floreciste
en la copa de cada árbol?
En la copa de cada árbol,
      una hoja de nogal,
      la hubieran cogido
      Todos los chicos pobres.
      Porque yo también cogí una,
      Me lo perdí,
      Yo también cogí una,
      Y me lo perdí.
Ay, pero me gustaría cogerme una
      Si pudiera encontrar una buena
Si es buena, si es hermosa,
Y encontrar a mi viejo amante.
      Y por mi viejo amante
      ¿Qué no haría yo?
      El agua del mar
      lo sacaría con una cuchara.
Y desde el fondo del mar,

"Minghella explained its attraction as a musical sound without any clear roots-atypical of any particular national style of folk music and sounding by turns Arabic, Hungarian, Turkish, and Bulgarian”"
To me, it is a Hungarian song with Romanian sound. When I first heard it, I thought it was Romanian, until I recognized Hungarian language.

Hungarian is a very mysterious language, the roots of which are a strange mix of oriental and Nordic origins. Also they were under the Ottomans for a period, undoubtedly influenced by them.

Love, love, Damned agony, Why didn't you blossom The top of every tree? On the top of every tree, on the leaves of a walnut tree, That it would have split, Every girl and boy. Mer' I broke up too, I missed it too, I broke it up too, And I missed it too. Oh, but I would still break up, If I found it good, If good, if beautiful, For my old lover. And, my old lover, What would I not do, I would scoop water from the sea with a spoon. And from the bottom of the sea, I would pick tiny pearls, And for my old lover, I would tie a pearl wreath.
