What a jewel of a film! Everything one could wish for in a fine movie: actors, art direction, sets, acting, storyline, plot, dialogue, characters- this film has it all!
Its lovely the way Russians just adore Sherlock Holmes; this is a very nice twist on "The Sign Of Four" right down to its Andaman Islander. Great costumes and nicely acted.
Russians "adore" Sherlock Holmes about 40 years ago! Out of ALL movies based on Conan Doyle's Novels the Soviet made were the best!! not sure if they were ever translated in English, I mean subtitles, lol
Mosfilm never disappoints. This film is excellent. The great Stanislavsky is portrayed wonderfully. Everyone is great The set design and background performers are superb. Cheers
Another masterpiece by Shakhnazarov and we can see it thanks to Mosfilm. Thank you, Mosfilm artists for making it possible for the world to see the great Russian art.
Have hoped for years to find a great Conan Doyle style mystery set in the late Russian Empire. This movie delivers in spades! Well done! (and thanks for the English subtitles).
Excellent movie. I watched 2 of your movies and they were all great. Your movies seem to have more substance then the Bollywood and Hollywood flicks. It has a story, a message and characters that are portrayed exquisitely. Loved it!!!
Another superb outing by Karen Shakhnazarov, the director. I recommend two movies of his, 'White Tiger', among one of the best WW II Russian movies, and a variant on 'Anna Karenina', 'Vronsky's story. Also I don't want to fail to mention 'Vladivostok', a movie with cast ties to 'White Tiger' thru the actor who played the captain, and Ivan Shaknazarov, a son of Karen. I found all three on Utuve.
I wish there will be more film like this. Aesthetically pleasing and the plot is well put. Tbh it is probably in my top 5 favorite Russian films. ❤ keep it up guys
Man -- is majestic -- because they can say 'no' to the necklace! Man -- is majestic -- because they can find picking pocket more thrilling than owning that necklace! Man is made by the Creator God. This is a majestic movie, thank you, Mosfilm!
Always welcomed to have an opportunity to watch artwork from anywhere around the globe. Keeps the door open between people. I've noticed a few good movies from Russia's cinema by now. They were more of a horror - thriller genre but great quality, the stories. In this movie I only wished the man hired to take producer, Stanislavsky, through the slums would be, ah, how to say it, more vibrant, "colorful", much more way out of the ordinary kind of character. But, yet still watching the movie so thanks for uploading and sharing.
Vladimir Alekseevich Gilyarovsky (Russian: Vladimir Alekseevich Gilyarovsky; November 26, 1853 - October 1, 1935), was a Russian writer and newspaper journalist, best known for his memoirs of life in pre-revolutionary Moscow (Moscow and Muscovites), which he first published in book form in 1926.Raised by his well-educated mother (who died when he was 8 years old) and an aristocratic stepmother, he left home early and, after a series of odd jobs (which included working at a factory producing toxic lead paints in Yaroslavl, as a tutor and a barge carrier), volunteered during the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-78.. After a short career as a provincial actor, he established himself as a journalist, winning praise and fame as one of the best crime reporters in Moscow. His first book, Stories of Slums (1887), describes his experience with the Moscow underworld, the Moscow of poverty and crime, which found its embodiment in the Khitrovka area. After the revolution, he devoted himself to writing memoirs. Among them were "My Travels" (1928) and "Gazeta Moskva" (published posthumously), which recorded his memories of the newspaper business in pre-revolutionary Moscow and some famous people with whom he worked (such as Anton Chekhov), and theatrical figures (also published posthumously). He died in Moscow on October 1, 1935.
Great actors but at the risk of sounding 'clever ' I have to say that the pace of the movie and the script is as good as the play the author started with in the first scene of the movie...words come out of the men mouths but then they fall on the floor, there is no reaction between people, except the beautiful Duchess . May be is just not the right time to watch it. Thanks for the upload.

Wonderful, completely entertaining. Love the blending of Holmes and Gorky, and even a cameo by Chekhov! Thanks for the upload.

Exist funny series about Sherlock in Russia :) Same name: "Sherlock in Russia" (2020) , 1 season, 8 episodes by 50 minutes.
Pretty funny.
Excellent in every way. Acting, staging, music, costumes.
Excellent sound, dialogue, casting, colours. And humour! Many great lines, especially “…hand me the megaphone…Not that one…”!
Thanks, Mosfilm - that was fun 😊

This is a majestic movie, thank you, Mosfilm!
Very good in all aspects, acting, story and directing!
Very enjoyable. The plot was lifted from a Sherlock Holmes story, the Sign of Four.

The Russian answer to Sherlock Holmes.

I'm agreeing with you - but appreciating any Russian film with good English subtitles💚

Never been in Moscow is safe today ?or in the near future?
It is safe and beautiful in Russia, you will like it. Welcome.
Moscow is safe in terms of crime but I don't think it's the proper time to visit due to the war.
What about dostoveskey Russian movies we want Arabic and English translation
How and why adding these movies to you?
WHEN SPANISH SUBTITLES!?
WE PREFER DON'T USE ENGLISH
