Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, for this video. I am 69 years old, and have been a performing country musician since I was 14. I cut my eye teeth listening to the amazing music of Gerry Reed and Glen Campbell. In my humble opinion, they brought country music into a class all by itself. They both are a gift from God. Honestly, these songs made this old man cry, and remember a time long ago when the future was bright and love was genuine. Ray Stevens is by far the greatest overlooked, underrated, under-appreciated musical talent in history. I’ve been following him since I was a kid in the 80s. Met him once as a teenager. I was speechless. I based a lot of my style and comedy on him. Ray, you’re a gem!
I came to know about Ray in the early 60s with his novelty songs, but with his serious Even Steven's in 67, I became a fan. People forget what a great vocalist he has always been. Ray, thank you for all the years of music.
All my life, I've had a small number of singers and musicians that were my heroes above all others. (Not to say I didn't enjoy other performers as well). Chet, Jerry, Marty, Roger are all gone, but Ray Stevens and Duane Eddy, thankfully, are still with us.
