Well, my guess is that they are intelligent enough to tell the difference between big whaling ships and small hobby boats and similar, plus with their size, I don't think they see tiny humans alone as threats and therefore feel confident enough to approach the paddle boarders. It's easier to be gentle when you're too big to be threatened by 99% of Earth's creatures.

The fact that the whales contain their own wake and gently move their flukes so as not to create much water movement is extraordinary. I’m not sure they realize there is an animal on board but they are certainly intrigued by this incursion into their world. This video is amazing and even breath-taking. Thank you.
How many people noticed the whale checked his speed just as he was about to touch the paddle board, he was being extra Extra EXTRA gentle. LOL still sent the board flying a little bit

However, if you change a perspective just a little bit and discard all the brainwashing imposed by the society, religion and your surrounding which is all deeply rooted in our ego, you'd maybe ask a few questions like this:
- why do the most intelligent species on earth kill each other in useless wars fought over ideology which is but a product of their mind
- why do the most intelligent species slaughter each other over imagined gods or over slightly different skin pigmentation
- why do they enslave and torture each other
- if you were a child ritually sacrificed in order to tame imagined god that supposedly didn't send you enough rain, or sent too much of it, what would you say about such species
- if you were a woman just a few decades ago, without any right (or even today in countries like Saudi Arabia), what would you say about such species
- if you knew that what you're doing to the planet will make it uninhabitable for your children and you just continue destroying it, what would you think of such species
All it takes to see us in objective light is to pull your head out from the sand and take off your rose-colored glasses, and start seeing humanity as it is.
If that is not enough, instead of watching meat and diary industry adverts, try watching a documentary such as Dominion or Earthling, and you'll get a bit more objective view of who we are.

Looks to me the whale is concerned the paddle board is a baby whale but not diving and resurfacing. It's trying to help the 'baby whale' by showing how whales are meant to behave.

This must have been one of the most epic experience in their lives! And not one but two whales with these two lucky but more importantly foresighted people as they managed to catch it on drone and share it with us.THANK YOU for making many of us realise we the humans don’t own the earth !!
