A video documentary produced to commemorate Maclean Hunter Cable TV's 25th Anniversary in the Town of Ajax. "Celebrating 25 Years Together 1968-1993"
    From the video case:
The Town of Ajax is a municipality that has matured at an exhilarating pace. The transformation from a 1940's fledgling community to a 1990's urban centre doing business with the corporate world has been inspirational.
This video documentary captures a segment of this rich and interesting history through candid interviews with former employees of Defence Industries Limited, still photographs and archive film footage.
The production of this documentary was funded by Maclean Hunter Cable TV and produced through the community television facilities. Special thanks is extended to Mr. Ken Smith for allowing his book, AJAX: THE WAR YEARS, to be an inspiration for this program.
We sincerely hope that this 25th Anniversary Gift from Maclean Hunter Cable TV to the past, present and future residents of the Town of Ajax serves as an excellent reminder of our history.

Thank you for making this video available about the history of Ajax, Ontario.
I've remembered seeing this video (along with a related video about that was produced in the early 1990s - sadly I could not remember the title) down at my local library (in Ajax).
A lot of things had changed since this video was produced (which were described in the timemarks below):
0:25 - steam plant still remains today although that site is now known as "Index Energy".
0:26 to 0:34 - the area shown is located along Bayly St west of Harwood Ave. adjacent to the Wendy's Restaurant. While the Wendy's restaurant still remains today, the buildings that were shown in the timemark mentioned were torn down back in the mid to late-2000s.
55:00 - that area is used to be where the Ajax Public Library Main Branch was located along with the post office adjacent to it. While the main branch of the library have moved to a separate building around 2003, the space where the old library (and post office) used to be is now the expanded Town Hall for Ajax.
55:31 - the Harwood Ave. and Highway 401 interchange shown in the video - was permanently closed back in late 2003. It was replaced by the Salem Rd. Interchange not far where the old interchange was.
The population (that was shown at 55:43) that Ajax was had evolved over the past 30 years. The total population of Ajax today is about 2.5x of the amount that is was back (when the video was produced).
Times had definitely changed for Ajax.

I grew up in Ajax... does anyone have any footage or audio of the siren that went off around 9pm at night to let the kids know to go home, and I think the street lights used to flash off and on to let kids also know to go home. Also, you mentioned the memorial of the ship but does anyone have any footage of the memorial FIRE that burned at the Library just off Harwood? I was a kid before St Andrews burned down. I attended Parkside elementary school and lived in the furthest south white apartment building there across the road. Not sure what years the siren or hooter went off every night around 9pm but it seemed to go out across all of Ajax. I wonder when they stopped that too. So many memories. I would assume this would be around 1974-1979 era... as I DO remember those things... not sure when the flame went out and the siren stopped...
