For me, the biggest thing from episode 3 was properly seeing the inside of a Royal Tree Ship. The other big thing was Aeka and Ryoko coming to terms against a common enemy. That aside, you're not wrong that the girls helped around the house. But this episode established Noike as the "head wife" and taking charge of Tenchi's harem. Before this episode, Sasami basically ran the Tenchi house and did most of the work. Washu spent most of her time in the lab. Aeka did some stuff, and Ryoko mostly lazed around. When Mihoshi was there, she did try to help. That's why Noike's giving orders. Just so you know, the living quarters of a Juraian ship is a subspace realm. Sadly, this is something that I don't think the anime ever explains. Regardless, these subspace realms As to the Mihoshi bit, that's the most frustrating thing to come out of OVA 3, and I don't think Kajishima-sensei has ever properly addressed it. Supposedly, the 4th True Tenchi Muyo novel was going to be about Mihoshi. But then GXP got the green light, followed by OVA 3. So the novel got shelved, but what happened to Mihoshi never got explained. It sucks.
The progression of Ayeka and Ryoko's friendship is something I really like about the OVAs. Ayeka didn't want to go save Ryoko in OVA 1, then in OVA 2 Ayeka was ready to go as soon as they learned Ryoko was kidnapped again, and then in OVA 3 they are just sitting around drinking as they complain about Noike.
