    I grew up in Janesville, left in 1984, onto Phoenix AZ. I used to park in the parking lot you are walking and talking about the murals, while working at a shoe store that used to be behind you on the corner! I go back to visit every so often, and am so happy to see downtown coming back to life! The Aqua Jays...always were fun to see, and Traxler Park, where they perform, always had a great July 4 celebration and fireworks. Great video! Brought back many memories! Had a lot of fun growing up there!

      I love hearing those memories from your past. That is awesome and I'm so glad we could help you take a trip down memory lane. They have done an amazing job investing in the downtown area. And yes! We were blown away by the Aqua Jays, what an amazing team! So glad you enjoyed our video, thanks so much for watching! -Katelyn

    I live in Janesville, it's easily overlooked because of its proximity to bigger cities/destinations, but it is totally worth checking out (and a great place to live). Janesville actually has both the longest and furthest south segment of the ice age trail of any municipality in the state. Hope you can visit again someday, there is a lot more to check out here, and more in the works!

    That was a terrific video of our hometown. Having been full time RV'ers ourselves for 8 years, we remember discovering all of the fascinating and fun locations and surprises along the way. We're so glad you enjoyed your stop in Janesville, and thank you for the great report. Safe travels.

    Well this video was a total shocker. I expected it to be pretty cool as I grew up 8 miles out of Janesville and spent much of my youth in the late 70s and early 80s carrying on in various parts of Janesville including Traxler Park, but I did not expect you to camp at Blackhawk Campground, where we were seasonal campers for 7 years as a kid and I had a giant 'holy S.' moment when you went to The Buckhorn! I was just shocked. My dad played the Hammond Organ a number of times at The Buckhorn and as a kid I would help him set up (as a Hammond and a Leslie speaker are quite the handful to move). Janesville is a lot different than when I grew up there and though we don't get that way very often, next time we do we're going to spend at least a day there...and we're going to camp at Blackhawk! Thanks for the unexpected trip down memory lane!

    I visited Janesville on a roadtrip to the Wisconsin Dells. I hiked an Ice Age Trail section there, and I went in those tunnels off the trail, which were cool. I also hiked some Ice Age Trail segments further north at Devil’s Lake SP…etc. The fried cheese curds are the bomb.

    This is charming. My mom grew up in Janesville and so did my cousins. Sterling North built the canoe he talks about in Rascal in my grandfather’s shop class. My grandpa was a teacher at the elementary school in Edgerton.

    If you ever come back this way, I suggest you check out the Edgewater Supper Club in Jefferson. It has a completely different feel to it than Buckhorn. The building has been there since the 1920's, and Al Capone has been there several times. When you walk in, it's as if you have gone back in time 80-100 years. They didn't make the ceilings or any of the rooms bigger. They have the patio dining room where the ceiling is quite low, and the entire room tilts towards the river and it's a weird feeling. They have made some modern updates to the building, but they wanted to keep that old time feel to the place. A lot of supper clubs now have TV's that you can watch while you're waiting or eating, and they have none of that here. They want you to talk to people around you.

    Another great video. I have driven past Janesville hundreds of times and had no clue. It is amazing how we drive thousands of miles to see stuff but miss places within a few hundred miles of home. I used to slip my boat close to a well know lighthouse but never stopped. With that said I have seen lighthouses from the Florida Keys to California. I was in a lighthouse that people are not allowed in when we gave the Coast Guard a hand when their helicopter broke down when they were doing some maintenance at that lighthouse but again never stopped at the one a couple miles from my boat. What a dope!! Anyway thanks for showing and sharing! You guys rock.

      I can totally relate! There are so many places in Virginia, where I grew up, that I never explored. Like that Old Rag hike we did last Fall in our Shenandoah NP video. Isn't that funny how that happens?! That lighthouse story you shared is super cool! Howard and I love checking them out on our travels. Hope you can get to Janesville one day, maybe next time you're passing through :) Thanks for watching!!

    Wow on the waterskiers! Everything about that town looks amazing! The art, the gardens, murals, food, author's house - wow! How do you find all of these things to do & places to see? I think I spend too much time on researching cool campgrounds / campsites and not enough time researching what to do.

      The Janesville Tourism Board helped us quite a bit with this one! But we both do a lot of research ahead of our trips. 😅 It can take a while, but definitely worth it! But that's why we do the hard work and share our videos so you know what to do in a certain destination! 😉❤

    We are headed to Wisconsin (the Dells and Milwaukee) the end of June 2025. We now want to stop in Janesville! Do you think the sunflower fields are blooming in June or are we too early?

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  Месяц назад

      That's awesome!! It's definitely worth a stop! June might be a little too early for the sunflowers, but we were talking to the owner of Skelly's Farm Market and she said it really depends on how the growing season goes and what type of weather they've had, so you might get lucky! They do a really good job updating their website and Facebook page with the current events, so just check as you get closer. Even if the sunflowers aren't blooming yet, it's still worth a visit for the milkshakes and other goodies!
