Hi Steve, You have done an original, amazing job and a true tribute to my father. I think of you every day and are greatful for what you are doing. I cant wait until it is finished. I will see you soon, Lisa
I just had my friend Dan Frost bring me the correct Dymo label maker , and the first sticker that we made and applied was the "Protected by the Egyptian army" one ! I'm glad you brought it up. Alton Gillespie is currently living in the bus as we are working on it . What a thrill ! Regards, Steve
Hi Kerry, Wish you were here ,we have Alton Gillespie here doing the lettering on the Von Dutch Bus project , and this Saturday Dutch;s X-wife Sheila ,and her daughter Lisa and her son T.J. ,Alton and I are going to give Dutch's grandson pinstriping lessons ! and stripe Lisa's 67 mustang ragtop in true dutch style plus some of our "input" ,this should be a blast .Merry Christmas to all ! "Uncle Steve"
Steve, you have done an incredible job. It is a great tribute to an incredibly talented man. Do you think maybe the sunroof might have doubled as an escape hatch? LOL Can't wait to see the finished bus. You are the man!!!!
Very interesting project! The bus will be a real eye-catcher. There are some german words on the lathe. I can't see the whole text, but there seems to be a spelling mistake. There is only one "R" at "MOTORAD". Correct should be "MOTORRAD" with two "R". Kind regards fom Berlin, Germany Tobias
I am 95% finished with the project only the extensive wiring and re-assembly left. I've had two wiring guys fall through and still looking for someone that can help out. I will not be bringing it to car shows myself but it could be an excellent opportunity for somebody to show it around the country and sell memorabilia, like t-shirts and such, but I'm thinking it will find a home in a museum, hopefully in the USA. I could never drive it to the shows, it's a 6 cylinder and won't go over 50 mph!
That lathe is incrediable, I couldn't imagine making chips with it. I noticed the German writting, hard to make it out. I can't see the 1st word but the rest seems to say "______ arms and motorcycle factory works". Cool stuff.
All of the features on the bus will be functional, but there will be no power actually hooked up to anything but lighting. Hopefully a museum will be the home to show it off, some think it should travel nation-wide to show all how the Father of The Kustom Kulture lived and worked. It has been referred to as the most important vehicle in American Hot Rodding and custom motorcycling, and there is only one! A great money making opportunity for a traveling entrepreneur to travel the show circuit.
@kafkapinstriping Thanks a lot for your reply, Steve. Do you know, why Von Dutch used german terms instead of the english version? Is this possibly a late made in germany and these words have been there before he did his pinstriping-art on it. I think, i'll try to find out something about his biography. By the way - i'm really impressed about your pinstriping skills. I saw some other videos like the gastank-lettering. It makes a great visual impact! With kind regards from Germany Tobias

How is it going with the Von Dutch bus? where can this bus be seen or can you make another video? thanks!!!!!
That engine is not a Chevy 292. It is a GMC 270 or 302 engine with a GM Hydramatic transmission.
