    • Counters to aikido tec...
    This is kaeshiwaza, counter techniques to several basic aikido techniques. I see it as a practice to improve the aikido techniques towards a point when they can no longer be countered.
    In kaeshiwaza, you counter an aikido technique with another (or the same) aikido technique. It should be practiced with care to avoid injuries. Resisting aikido techniques can be harmful if not done correctly. Therefore, it's a good idea to go slowly and gently at first.
    There is one simple rule to kaeshiwaza: timing. You can counter an aikido technique at certain moments of it and not at others. Those are moments when the person doing the technique tries to take over control. You can avoid it by applying aikido principles - accepting and then redirecting the force. So, you're using aikido also when countering aikido techniques.
    Kaeshiwaza helps to discover flaws in your techniques, and correct them. So, after practicing kaeshiwaza counters, you should also try to change your technique to withstand the counters - but carefully, or you may get hurt. As with all aikido practice, it should be done in a spirit of cooperation, for the benefit of both participants.

    Thanks for the video.It is good to see the draw of a counter technique and it drives to me to emphazise the "kuzushi" to avoid a counter technique.

      Leo Acosta, kuzushi is definitely useful to avoid counters. So is paying attention to detail in the aikido techniques.

      Aikido inspires creativity. When I was a beginner I tended to do the ura forms of techniques although our teacher showed omote. It was before he had taught us ura, so he was quite amused. I think it was because I had learned that aikido should be done without resistance or force. Ura often seemed the smoother way.

      Owen Schaffer, henkawaza is a great idea. I put that on my to-do list. As for koshinage, I already made a video ten years ago. The video quality is not the best, though. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/7E_nJn8nu30/видео.html

    • @OwenSchaffer

      Awesome! Thanks for sharing that video. Oh, I meant a koshinage video "against grip and strike attacks", showing many different koshi nage in slow motion and then full speed, like your newer videos. If you have time, that would really help me prepare for my upcoming 1st kyu test (4/13/18) because I have to do 5 koshi nage from different attacks. No big deal if you don't have time. :-) I think henka waza is on the shodan test, so I'm looking forward to that video as well. Thank you, Stenudd Shihan!

    • @StefanStenudd

      Sorry, but I will probably not post a koshinage video in time for your test. Anyway, good luck with it!

    • @H4I2I2EE
      @H4I2I2EE 7 лет назад

      No, not most of the time, but it's not a black and white world. Training partners will test and resist you. The thing you have to realize though is that if you are forcing a technique with your strength directly against their strength or resistance(when they still have their balance) then you are no longer doing Aikido.

    Kaeshiwaza n'est possible que si la technique est mal faîte. Si une technique d'Aikido est parfaitement exécuté, kaeshiwaza est impossible. Essayez de faire kaeshiwaza sur un véritable expert !! Alors plutôt que d'enseigner Kaeshiwaza, efforçons-nous d'enseigner un Aikido où le contre est toujours impossible ! Dans cette démo, l'uke est facile à contrer, mais parce-que son niveau (faible) le permet.

    • @StefanStenudd
      @StefanStenudd  6 лет назад +3

      Christophe Page, it seems you did not read my text right below the video. It says: " I see it as a practice to improve the aikido techniques towards a point when they can no longer be countered." And later in the same text: "Kaeshiwaza helps to discover flaws in your techniques, and correct them." Of course, a perfectly done technique can't be countered - or it would not be perfect. But kaeshiwaza is a good way of getting there.
      You say that the counters are easy on this demo, because the uke is weak. Couldn't it be because I'm good at it ;)

      What an interesting display of French chauvinism :) Not only does he expect everyone to speak French, but if you watch his violent execution of techniques in his "Aikido demonstration" video you can clearly see his little understanding of Aikido principles. Another fine example of how rank often does not correlate with skill...

      Mais on sait bien que le KAESHIWAZA nous aides à voir les fautes. Car qui de nous peut prétendre qu’il ne commet pas d’erreur en exécutant une technique?

      Aikido isn't a fighting system but defense system with weapon mainly, sword and knife,70% with weapons according to the founder of Aikido O-sensei Morihei Ueshiba。In training, the weapon are not hold in order to make it simple. But always imagine, that the aikido people have had weapon in the hand. That is why many attack technique by aikido are grabbing the hand. The weapon are:
      sword ruclips.net/video/IUZNbFFWeIU/видео.html
      knife (regular 2 pieces in the hand) ruclips.net/video/FlNilPZFAEk/видео.html
      If you were MMA fighter, you wouldn't have any chance to win by attacking an aikidoka.
