I am in Australia and just got the Shapeoko 5 Pro with the 2.2 spindle kit, now just waiting for the lot to get here, will be watching your video again then, thanks for down-loading this informative viewing, all the best mate, Allan
That's awesome Allan! I hope they make your installation easier. You will love that machine it's really amazing. Some day I hope to visit Australia, beautiful country! Cheers mate!

Will do, be sure to take advantage of the free trials offered by design software sites. I settled on Vectric because it worked for me and the way my brain thinks. Carbide Create not so much. There are so many tutorial videos on RUclips for whichever software you choose and can help you get started, but feel free to ask me for help or there is a great online forum which I joined for our machine, Carbide3d forum everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable, Best of luck, Pete
Hey Allan that's great! So an air line won't fit on the drag chain for the spindle(left side) but you could try it on the right side drag chain if the hose is small enough. I don't remember how full it is with wires, worth a shot though, have you put it together yet? The hardest part is orientating the hoses/wires through the drag chain correctly. Keep in mind the chain links that have the mounting screws (ends) are removable, they snap in and out. Have fun with it, your welcome mate
I agree it's not ideal but I had no choice for right now, space is very limited. I'm hoping in about 2 years to add on 10 feet to the back of my shop. If that happens then I will have a separate area just for the CNC on a table 🙏 cause I'm not getting any younger :) cheers
I’m considering purchasing the Shapeoko 5 Pro 4X4 and would definitely go with a spindle. For me personally, a 65mm spindle on a 4X4 machine seems like I would be leaving a lot of performance on the table… you definitely made the right call with the 80mm! Thanks for the video, clear and concise. One other thing stands out to me though, how do you keep your shop so neat? My shop looks like a tree exploded in it.
Thank you! To help you out even further this coming Saturday I will be releasing part 2. It will be a head to head comparison test between the 65mm and the 80mm, really helps when your deciding which spindle is right for you. As for my shop, I'm a neat freak but it does look pretty bad after long furniture builds. I clean the machines every day and the shop itself once a week. I have to also because of the channel. Hope this helps you decide, it's a really great machine! :)
Hey there, so the gas strut is used to keep the spindle from dropping and hitting the table when the machine is shut down and the stepper motor is no longer energized. When the machine is shut down the stepper motor moves freely and with the additional weight of the 2.2 Kw it will freefall into the table. The stepper motor has plenty of power to lift that spindle while machining.
Hello, I just followed your video step-by-step, but now the big problem I have is that I don’t have a 220v outlet in my storage garage to plug in the spindle box. Just 120v outlets. What do i do now?
Hello, thanks for watching the video, you're going to have to call an electrician to see if a 220v plug can be installed in the garage. Worst case scenario is that they can install a 220v plug somewhere in the vicinity and then you can have them make a long extension cord so that you can plug in to it even if it's 30 feet away. If they can't install a 220v plug, I would contact Carbide3D and see if you can return the 2.2kw spindle for the 1.2kw spindle which is 110v.
Pete, I have finished, assembling the Shapeoko 5 Pro with the 2.2 kw spindle kit. now not sure how to start and stop the spindle to test it, I do not want it to start in my hand, having problems contacting shapeoko, they do not respond to my enquires, any help will be fantastic mate
Hey Allan, that's good the hard part is over! All you have to do is hook up your computer or laptop to the machine and open Carbide Motion (version 636), make sure you configure your machine in it ( your model and size) and then go to the spindle warmup feature and run that. It will run the spindle at certain rpm's for a pre set length of time. Make sure you remove the collet or tighten it so it doesn't fly off. Let me know if it works, cheers mate

Great video, thanks for putting that up. I have the same setup. Does the cooler hoses need to be on a particular input/output for the connections or does that matter? Thanks!
Just ordered this whole setup. Very excited to get into CNC.
That's awesome!!! You'll love it, there's so much you can make with that machine. Stick with it, I've got more videos coming to inspire 👍

received my shapeoko today, with the 2.2 spindle, would you add an air line in the drag chain and would it fit, thanks mate

Let's see full DOC with a 1/4" compression bit in 3/4" plywood!
You'll have to wait and see! I like the way you think! 👍
Nice job on the video and walk through!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
cant wait for the head to head video
Awesome! It should be up later this week
that cnc on the floor would drive me nuts, but everyone does what works for them, cheers

I would soke the hose in hot water to get straight. Or use silcon hosing much more flexable. nice just the same.
Cheers
Thanks, yes I almost had to do that. This hose was a little stiff but good idea, cheers

Is the gas strut used do to the additional weight of the 2.2Kw spindle? Is the OEM stepper motor to weak for the new spindle weight?

I will be ordering mine tomorrow. Question... Does the chiller come on automatically or do you have to turn it on separately?
Awesome! No you have to turn on the chiller separately.
