  • Die from alcoholism or die at the front. The Kremlin does not seem to see any other options for its citizens. This year, the consumption of strong alcohol has increased in the Russian Federation. According to the Federal Service for Alcohol Market Regulation, 549 million liters of strong alcohol were sold in the country in the first half of the year - 42 million liters more than in the same period last year. Tens of thousands of Russians die every year due to the use of surrogates. How Russia is drinking too much - our correspondents will tell.

    I visited the USSR in 1972 and saw the scope of drunkenness sprawled on the sidewalks at night. An expat in Moscow told us of his friend, a former Soviet fighter pilot, who said the first thing sold out in the PX was after shave used for consumption. His fellow airmen had experienced serious ice problems as the wing deicer tanks were sometimes empty as it had also been consumed. How many cases of blindness in Russia can be attributed to methanol? This is a society with a severe self-destructive orientation.

      Like it said in that book "Ecocide in the USSR" (Murray Fessbach, 1993) the idea of drinking less vodka seems like a waste of self-control when the city puts homes and schools right next to a giant industrial plant belching green smoke into the air constantly.

    TRUE STORY. My father in law was shot down piloting a B24, WWII. The Polish partisans helped get him to safety. The Russians flew him back to somewhere (don't remember) to get him hooked back up with the Americans. Shortly after departure one of the pilots held out a container and asked him if he wanted some deicing fluid to drink. He declined. What they are saying here is not only true, but not remotely a new phenomenon. Really comforting when your pilot is sucking down crap like that, I'm sure.
    Makes me wonder if the Russians rubbing alcohol is 'denatured', as it is in the States. Denatured means adding a poison, basically. On Russian dash cam video you can see drunks falling down in the middle of streets and everywhere else, constantly.

    • @vksasdgaming9472
      @vksasdgaming9472 Год назад

      Usually denatured alcohol (like that used to disinfect things) does not actually have poisonous substances in them any more. They just add extremely foul-tasting and hard-to-extract chemicals instead. Doesn't work so well when need to drink is strong enough. People dying is bad advertisement.

    Vodka has been a tax farm for Moscow governments since the 1400s. Russia does nothing to stop alcoholism in the country. I have seen drunks piled up like castoff junk in a large room described as a "hotel." Russian tankers are known to drink alcohol-based brake fluid, even removing used fluid from the tank's reservoir. This does little to help the vehicle, and less to help the crewman. A great deal of Russian political apathy springs from the consumption of alcohol. Their bizarre, often capricious behavior is well-known too. It's funny in YT channels like "Another Day in Russia" and Meanwhile, in Russia", but it gets soldiers killed at the front. Soldiers shooting each other behind the lines, etc., usually starts with too many bottles present. Then someone notices there are too few bottles, and the shooting starts.
