  • In this heat transfer video lecture, we introduce the concept of natural (or free) convection. Even in a quiescent (or still) fluid, convection can still occur. This is due to a solid heating or cooling the surrounding fluid. This uneven heating of the fluid creates buoyancy forces, which lead to buoyancy flow near the solid. This flow creates convective heat transfer.

why do you talk about fluid all the time, is the room filled with water?

Gases (like air) are also fluids.
