Every song by this band is amazing in my own opinion. Theyve dabbled in a few different genres of metal over the years and I think my favorite track in terms of vocals, lyrical content and instrumental impact would have to be Save Me. Absolutely powerful song.
When you said "this might be an instrumental" I instantly thought of "exist" by these guys, same album, but most of it is an instrumental check it out dude! It's a wicked song, it's about the universe and how it was created, you can hear it in the instruments... you have to have an open mind hope you react to it 🤟
The fact it is 15 minutes long, with 7 minutes of Syn's Solo, and it explains the scale of universe, proves that it is literally the final boss of the album, if not the final boss of prog metal in general
This is a concept album about “The Stage”, the world we live in. This song in particular is about the Fermi Paradox, which is the principal that there’s millions of habitable planets in the galaxy, many of whom are older than the earth, yet there’s a contradiction between the high probability of alien life and earth not even being so much as contacted by alien life. The lyrics hint at Project SETI and the Arecibo message, which was sent in 1974 to the Messier 13 star cluster hoping to contact life and give possible intelligent life basic information about humans and earth. The message sent includes numbers 1-10, the atomic numbers of the elements which make up our DNA, the formulas for sugars in nucleotides, a graphic consisting of a double DNA helix, figures depicting humans and the solar system, and finally a graphic of the observatory which sent the message. Given the amount of research and the influences they looked to for the album, I’d not put it past them to indirectly reference this event in the song.
The verse. It's so beautiful, it chokes me up. For Matt's vocals and syn's tremolo part, they're soft and beautiful. meanwhile, Brooks is going HAM with a completely "out of pocket" blast beat. it creates an AMAZING contrast. FUCK, these guys are so freaking talented....
Dude, literally love your reaction to this! The reason why you probably didn't know about this album is because they released it without promotion. They didn't advertise it. I think they did one promotional live version and that's it. No TV interviews or whatever and it was still commercially and critically successful but their quality is so different and unique
im sorry but i usualy say things i think... in my opinion, too much pausing and talking during key parts or key notes.. this song is nothing if you dont listen the entire guitar work without deconcentrating or pausing. after 15 years playing and after listening this guitar work like 100 times or more now is when i realize how good this song is.

This is a concept album, listen from beginning to the end... exist is the final boss of all the music they’ve ever made

You gotta listen to 'Higher' from this album. The whole album is good. In my opinion one of the best metal albums of the 2010s
100% agreed
a few people did this song and i dont understand why... it is one of the most beautiful and heavy compositions i heard in a lot of years

I've found out I need to lay down and close my eyes for listening to this album.
🤣
there is different ways to "listening music"
Lay down with a blanket and close my eyes under a starry night 🌌 while high off cannabis type of album
Check out Exist if you want an instrumental

A bit late but the skull on the cover is a real nebula
This band and song have enough vocals but they're a background to instruments.

PS: Bat Country is on the album “City of Evil” lol.
There are so many more great songs by them - Buried Alive, Save Me - Exist is a mind blowing song and they’re just an incredible band
