I really like your voice. You sound like a real person and it doesn’t feel contrived or fake like honestly a lot of personalities on the RUclips do so I just wanted to say thank you for not being fake. I would agree with some of the other comments that yes we’ve heard these comments before but I do think you do explain them in a way that helps people really hear those comments. I also like that there aren’t a ton of quick cuts or anything like you actually have time to look at the photos without pressing pause.
1. Use full length curtains, 2. Use side table, 3. Layer in lighting with dimmers, 4. Hang artwork & consider focal points, sight lines, & stacking frames. 5. Include live plants, flowers, stems. 6. Use rugs that are the correct size. 7. Edit color scheme in a room. No more than 4 colors (not in video: white and black are hues. They don't count as colors).
Thank you so much for sharing the synopsis of the video but I agree with Carissa’s comment. It depends on what theory you’re you’re operating under. Color theory? Light theory? Etc. Then there are the principles of interior design. Your adage could have been for separate comment maybe.
@@carissafisher7514 I think what they’re getting at is you do get pink by adding white to red. And you get burgundy by adding black to red. I struggle with artwork a lot which I’ve always found so strange because I‘m actually quite an artistic person. Yes! Having low, warm lights instead of an overhead lamp is a big part of hygge. Because hygge is what we do because the Sun is so low on the sky here in the winter.
Yes ma'am! curtains are everything. I often buy pretty inexpensive ones because then I can change them out every couple of years as my style changes & I need an update to a space. they add such dimension and depth to a room. Also go to a hardware store and buy electrical conduit. It costs a couple bucks, it's super strong and will save you so much money on expensive curtain rods.

Just found your channel. Still trying to figure out what I like and actually make it all come to life in my 30s. I enjoyed this video, I've been into interior design since a teenager. Actually majored in it, but I just never finished my degree.
This was great. My home doesn't feel finished because I've made so many mistakes in the past. When we painted and put in new everything, I just didn't put anything back on the walls or windows, fearing making the same mistakes.
Kitty- What do I do for curtains in my master bedroom, my window “butts” up to the corner where it meets the other wall, I’ve never been able to figure out the right way to it. Thank You
Thanks for the suggestion about keeping the color story to about 4 colors. I’ve been seeing schemes with 7-8 colors in them in the magazines/online. All those colors look frantic, chaotic and undecided to my eye.
I love how you styled your mom's place! It looks IKEA Scandish to me. I adore IKEA. I am going to have white wolf shaker cabinets in my kitchen right now. How can I add IKEA into my space? The kitchen dining room and living room will become all one space. I have IKEA curtains which I shortened! Now I might go buy them and hang the them near the ceiling and keep them long, lol. What if you don’t have space one one side of your window to expand the curtain width? I have a huge radiator right by my bedroom window... and layering a curtain on the would be a fire hazard
Rugs are a problem for me. Although I love seeing them, I avoid having them because they’re just a magnet for dirt and dust. This has become even more of an issue because my son has allergies.. since I don’t plan on vacuuming every day… I’ll compromise on having an unfinished home ahahah. This was an amazing video, I definitely have to work on plants and wall art.. we got lighting and curtains down 💪 thanks for all the tips!
I think what's most important in interior design is creating a space that works for you, your life and family! For me right now I've had to put away extra side tables, lamps and floor plants as my little one is crawling and pulling himself up to stand. Better to have a functioning home than a perfectly curated one at this stage of my life!
I’ve tried the curtain rod closest to the ceiling and it looks silly to me. Almost like your carpet hugging the wall, it needs to float a bit off the wall to make the space feel bigger. Yes, hang the rods high and wide but not up against the ceiling. I’ve tried just 2-6inches away from the ceiling and it feels more right. (I have 8ft ceilings)

I really enjoyed this video. Two of the tips, unfortunately, I can’t apply. My one kitty eats plants and became very ill one time due to this. So I can’t use greenery unless it is way up where she can’t reach it. And I also can’t lay rugs because my one small dog will pee on them, sigh. But everything else I definitely can do to make my home feel more finished. I’m planning to hang curtains in my living room and dining space off of our kitchen. I know it’s going to make a huge difference in the space and will definitely help it to feel finished. And lastly, I love “lamp time” in our house! I am a bit addicted to buying beautiful lamps and placing them in the best spots around our home.😊
Cat grass (wheat grass) looks really cute in window boxes, etc. and there are tons of other pet safe plants. I find my 3 cats monch my fancy plants much less when they have a plentiful safe alternative. Eating grass is important for a cats diet, so if they don’t have the ability to do this outside they may attack plants. So there are still certain plants (lilies) to avoid keeping inside.
There are many plants that are not harmful to pets. Plants bring so much into a home that i would try again and this time maybe check 1st if it is harmful.

This is exactly what I needed! My husband literally said the other night that our house just seemed unfinished. We moved in two years ago, and we’re busy parents. One question: we can’t have rugs (trying to manage a dust mite allergy). Do you have any suggestions on how to create a cozy room without rugs? Curtains would be ok, since they can be cleaned easily. Thanks for the video!
Great video! Thanks for all the tips. I’m going to work on implementing them. Also, how is your thyroid? I just had a biopsy on my thyroid today so I couldn’t help but notice yours. Take care.
How do you put a light on a side table beside a couch that is floating in the room with only plug outlets on the walls? Also, if I turn on more lamps than immediately necessary he goes around and turns them off!
Amazon sells rechargeable lightbulbs that don’t need to be plugged in. As for getting your partner on board with mood lighting, explain to him what you’re trying to achieve and have him decide with you which lights will be turned on each night.
They are ikea cabinets with semi handmade fronts that I painted "swiss coffee" by benjamin moore to match our trim with rejuvenation hardware. I don't have a video on it sadly. Was pregnant (with toddler in toe) when we first moved in and just didn't do a good job of documenting the initial updates.
Love this video! Would you be willing to share the brand name of your dining room table and also your mom's? I'm looking for one right now and those are beautiful.
They're both gifted from Article. I've worked with them several times over the years and can attest to their quality! Mine is the Seno and my mom's is the Madera both in oak.
I love what you said about lighting. We have cans on a dimmer in every main room of our home. I love them for cleaning purposes or on a gloomy day. We have white light in those and a more yellow Edison bulb in all our lamps because I love the mood it creates in the evening.
Please discuss this ... built-in sideboard? behind you. I'm working on something like that right now based on old IKEA billys and I'm flying by the seat of my pants.
Love your mindset on design and your style never fails to be perfectly cozy and curated! I was wondering where your rug is from that is in your dining room? Thanks in advance!
Am I the only thing person who doesn’t like the look of curtains hung so far above the windows? I like the hardware mounted on the window trim. I’m not sure if I just have bad taste, or if rods mounted so high is a look that only works in certain places but is being overused. Aside from that, I really enjoyed these tips.
lol that you talking about the size of rugs, I bought a big rug for my living room and then it was too big so now my bedroom has almost full carpet lol

Look into Ruggables! I have two In my home right now. They are machine washable and very pretty. Good luck!
Great video! Thanks for all the tips. I’m going to work on implementing them.
Also, how is your thyroid? I just had a biopsy on my thyroid today so I couldn’t help but notice yours. Take care.
Great tips.
thanks
Thank you!
Did you build the cabinets behind you in this video? If so, is there a video on it?
They are ikea cabinets with semi handmade fronts that I painted "swiss coffee" by benjamin moore to match our trim with rejuvenation hardware. I don't have a video on it sadly. Was pregnant (with toddler in toe) when we first moved in and just didn't do a good job of documenting the initial updates.
This was so helpful!!
What about curtains and a bay windows?
Love this video! Would you be willing to share the brand name of your dining room table and also your mom's? I'm looking for one right now and those are beautiful.
They're both gifted from Article. I've worked with them several times over the years and can attest to their quality! Mine is the Seno and my mom's is the Madera both in oak.
I love what you said about lighting. We have cans on a dimmer in every main room of our home. I love them for cleaning purposes or on a gloomy day. We have white light in those and a more yellow Edison bulb in all our lamps because I love the mood it creates in the evening.
Kitty, where did your adorable sweater come from?
And other stories!
Please discuss this ... built-in sideboard? behind you. I'm working on something like that right now based on old IKEA billys and I'm flying by the seat of my pants.
Oh your home looks amazing!!!!!! Excellent thinking / beautiful ways of putting everything together…… excellent tips Kitty 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙋🏻♀️
Love your mindset on design and your style never fails to be perfectly cozy and curated! I was wondering where your rug is from that is in your dining room? Thanks in advance!
Thank you! It’s from Loloi x Chris Loves Julia collection - Rosemarie in Sage/Blush amzn.to/3AZMaTT
Grand ideas.
I love your aesthetic. Also what kind of tv it that? Is it DIY or did you get it like that?! Please tell, I hate that TVs are black 🤗
Looks like Samsung’s Frame
@@MNeathway thank you!
It's the samsung frame tv. It's a splurge but I love it on our living room vs the big black box on the wall!
@@kittycotten thanks! Yeah I love it, looks much nicer
I didn't need more house projects to add to the list but here we are 😅
lol that you talking about the size of rugs, I bought a big rug for my living room and then it was too big so now my bedroom has almost full carpet lol
That's your TV on the right?! It totally looks like a painting. How is that possible? 😍
It’s probably the Samsung Frame TV.
That is the prettiest frame TV screen. I was certain it was a painting.
Me, too!
Definitely wish I had of watched this video BEFORE buying a rug for the living room :(
If you got it too small try layering a larger jute rug underneath!
Your hair looks so cute 🥰 it reminds me of berries and cream 👍
