I still think it’s amazing that when you reel in those fish, there is so much “stuff” on the end of your line including the fish it looks like your reeling in a fully decorated Christmas tree!!
Ok Dave, I love it when you catch bait. When you lift it in the boat, you look at the camera with a dead stare, nod your head like your telling the audience “it’s on now people😂😂😂”
Catching "bait" is as important as cat fishing itself in my book. Can't have one without the other. Rods of choice are always best, different application, conditions, fishing methods, all come into play. Thanks again Dave!!!
You have a lot more experience than I do. Like 20 years more but idk if I agree with the stiff rod for suspending. I use two tangling with catfish medium action rods and suspend all the time without problems. We don’t have blues in this area and flatheads can be tuff so I like the bend so I can Atleast have fun with the channel cats.
Here's the thing about equipment. It ain't the equipment that catches the fish. It's KNOWING the equipment that helps catch the fish. I was on an emergency trip to visit my brother in the hospital in upstate SC. It turned out okay. On the way home, I went to visit my uncle, 30 miles away from my favorite trout fishing river in N. GA. I didn't have my trout rod. I stopped at a Walmart and bought a $16 ultra light combo with 4lb mono, then proceeded to the West Fork river and caught my limit. So what, you say. I say, "It ain't the gear that catches the fish, it's the fisherman that catches the fish." Later, I fished with that same rod/reel combo on the Cumberland river near Burkesville, KY and caught a 5 lb rainbow. My point is, you have to know the limits of your gear and compensate for its deficiencies and take advantage of its qualities. Gear don't catch fish. Fishermen catch fish. I'd say Dave could catch fish on a splayed cane pole, 'cause quite simply, he knows how to catch fish.
With Mad Katz even when I'm not doing great on the fish I'm looking great. lol. Switched all my rods over to MK. More variety in actions and colors too. 28:20 sweet baby jesus that's an awesome catch
I use the tangling with catfish whisker whip rods lots of back bone but still pliable.. I use nothing but the team catfish gold ring 400 bait caster reels.. but I won’t use rods that have snap in or “inserted” rod guides it has to be a solid one piece construction guide.
Can you still get the Jim Moyer rods? Those are sorta similar to the Berkley E-Cat but they have more backbone, more pulling power, Catfish Connection used to sell them but I don't know if you can still get any of them, or if anyone has any left? BPS used to have a similar rod to the Jim Moyer, I don't remember what their called but my son used to have a couple of them, back in the late 90's and he's pulled in some toads with them. Phil King used to use or helped develop the King Kat rods for Cabela's, they were a decent rod but had too short of a handle for me, but they were nice. I don't know Dave, just thinking of some older rods from back in the 90's when I was going after the Hawgs pretty good!
Took a look at those Team Catfish rods, I think I like the 8' heavy casting rod. Looks like they use aluminum reel seats on those, which I like. Been looking at Mad Catz, but I like what you had to say about the Team Catfish rods.
@@randalkidd7562 About the same. Mad Katz has much more flash for your personal aesthetic preference. I love them for the glow under blacklight. Much better day and night over a white rod.

Dag blasted yellow jacket trying to ruin my fishing video lol. Dave have you ever tried the bill dance quantum catfish rods? I've heard they are pretty decent rods
I've got a "pro cat" 7' solid fiberglass snagging rod from Academy, it's got more balls than a Saturday golf course and cost $35 but it is not flexible enough really for anything but suspended use. I love it for flatheads though
Hey Dave, been watching your videos for a while now, first time commenting. Question sir. I see you are using Penn reels. Just curious which ones you use? I am a long time Penn fan, got my first MadKatz MH, and I put a Penn Fathom 2 50LW on it. Just curious if you used one and if so, your thoughts on them?

I have noticed that I catch a lot more fish on the slower action rods for some reason. Regardless of the power… I don’t get it but it’s like the catfish know something.

I totally think you are as wrong as a three dollar bill comparing madkatz rods with team catfish broom sticks your using there. You can hype up team catfish rods if you want. But let me tell you this..I use uglystiks, madkatz, and meat hunter rods. I also do a lot of shore fishing from thr river bank and not fishing from a boat. From my experience from my years of fishing, a stiff rod like that team catfish rod is not the best rod for shore fishing, period. A rod that is too stiff results in a lot of missed fish because you cannot detect bites like you would with a rod with a stiffer tip section. All my missed fish comes from operator head space and timing. Not necessarily the rod or the action of the rod. Rod length plays a huge part in casting distance as does the rod and reel. You would not want to cast with a team catfish rod there because the action of the rod would cause the bait to be flung off during your cast. And you do not want too soft of a rod because when it comes time to horse the fish from cover or set the hook at long distances, you just do not have the power. As for suspend fishing..well the rod comparison you just did just showed me that you do not need to pay team catfish $99.00 for one of their ugly rods. Just go get yourself a broom stick , glue some guides on it and tape your reel to the rod and your off to the races.
I still think it’s amazing that when you reel in those fish, there is so much “stuff” on the end of your line including the fish it looks like your reeling in a fully decorated Christmas tree!!
