    I've toured North America out of a Mazda 3, spent 2 years exploring the United Kingdom out of a broken down Citroen Berlingo, lived out of a Volkswagen Transporter in Australia during the 2020 lockdown, and the year after renovated my dream van a Ford Econoline named Moe. This past week I sold the Camper Van that I called Moe to a lovely couple, and figured to help out future sellers here is how to tackle the process.
    Enjoy!
    Every Wednesday, I release a video update in the life of this comedy cowboy, so you can get a glimpse into what people are calling 'living the dream.' Laced with an original score by Andrew Watson, grab a front seat beside this pavement pounding comic that never leaves the road.

    great video...so technically, they will make a short drive with the vehicle, with no insurance or plates to get it to their place? Is this what most people do?

    • @MattWatsonComedy
      @MattWatsonComedy  2 месяца назад +1

      No you need plates and insurance to drive the vehicle anywhere. In my specific situation my buyer handed me the certified check (as they were quite positive on buying), and I let them take the van with my plates under my insurance to get a final check from their mechanic. This probably isn’t typical.
      I imagine most buyers would be getting their own plates and insurance from Service Ontario before going to pick up the vehicle.
      Hopefully that helps! I’m certainly not an expert so please call service Ontario to double check. Thanks for watching!

    Great video . Should i go to the bank with the other person for the bank draft /certified cheque ? Also, should i wait for the cheque to be fully cleared before i hand them the keys?
    Thanks in advance

    • @MattWatsonComedy
      @MattWatsonComedy  7 месяцев назад +3

      The idea behind a bank draft is that the money is taken from the person’s account when it’s drawn up ‘guaranteeing’ it to be there when you cash it. Because of this I was confident in handing over the keys when I was handed the draft, but you should do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
      Glad I could help!

    Obvious question i cannot find. The plate. How can the buyer drive the car with no plates?????

    • @MattWatsonComedy
      @MattWatsonComedy  6 месяцев назад +2

      I was given the bank draft, left my plates on and let them take the van to their mechanic for approval. My plates were later returned to me but I felt confident in trusting the couple I sold it to. Ideally the buyer has already gone to Service Ontario and gotten plates of their own before picking up the vehicle from the seller.
      Thanks for the question.
      I hope that’s helpful:)

      Glad it was helpful. I never went to Service Ontario with the buyer. If all the paperwork is straight there’s no need. Also to avoid stress with cheque, as for it to be certified that way the money is guaranteed to be there.

    1 question, being that the vehicle was sold for around 35K, how did the buyers purchase it from you?? Cash? E transfer? How does that work for that large amount of money?

    • @MattWatsonComedy
      @MattWatsonComedy  10 месяцев назад

      That means a lot Juju thank you:)
      I asked to be paid the same way I originally paid for the vehicle which was through a draft money order. It makes it safe for everyone involved as when it’s drawn up, that guarantees the funds are there, so you’ll be able to deposit it worry free.
      Glad I could help, and best of luck with your sale!

    do you clear their bank draft first before handing over the paperwork for them to register the vehicle?

    • @MattWatsonComedy
      @MattWatsonComedy  2 месяца назад

      The bank draft is guaranteed money as the total amount has already been taken from their account. That coupled with me trusting my buyers from the first meeting gave me the confidence to hand the keys when they gave me the draft.

    • @Alendi11
      @Alendi11 2 месяца назад +1

      @@MattWatsonComedy fair enough. Have read that drafts can still be fabricated though. Some recommending going to the bank with the buyer to see the draft being made. Guess it all depends on your risk profile

    • @MattWatsonComedy
      @MattWatsonComedy  2 месяца назад

      @@Alendi11 I’ve heard that about bank drafts too, so depending on the transaction going to the bank with the buyer may be your best bet. Best of luck!

    Quick question: when your buyer register the vehicle at Service Ontario, the seller do not need to be present right?

    • @MattWatsonComedy

      That’s between you and the seller.
      We had a great relationship and I really felt like we both trusted and respected each other. Even though I had the van safetied through my mechanic the buyers wanted theirs to do a ‘pre-sales’ check. Before they grabbed the van to drive it to their mechanic they paid me in full with a certified check assuming that all would go well with the test. Which it did:) Hope that helps!

In another province my buddy sold me a car for 1 dollar a d I paid taxes on that. That's how it should be.
