JOHN BONHAM/MOBY DICK/LONG BEACH ARENA JUNE 27 1972

- Superb sounding performance of Moby Dick from the Long Beach Arena , June 27 1972. I only saw one other post of this version, and it is less complete so I figured I would share it. The version of Moby Dick on How The West Was Won is from two nights earlier at the LA Forum. This recording sounds like it's from the professionally balanced multi-track tape, and the fragment also includes What Is And What Should Never Be and Dancing Days. I did not upload those two songs here because they are the versions that were used on the official HTWWW release and I think they would be blocked. Sadly, this recording fades out shortly before Bonzo goes into his triplet finale, but most of the solo is captured. To have it in this quality audio is a treasure, indeed.
I added a little EQ to balance the recording freqs, and a tiny bit of compression. I think it's an improvement over the raw tape. Hope you all enjoy this masterful solo!

I was lucky enough to see zep in 1977 at MSG. as a 15 year old drummer I was blown away. He has been my idol my whole life an always will be. The creativity and power are unequaled
I just turned 16 I started drums September 2019 because of Bonham, I’m obsessed with him. His feel his emotional timing, it’s uncanny. I just wish I could have met him or seen him live. He will continue to be one of my main idols not just for my drumming but for my life in general.
@@bonzolo2358 all the best for your drumming carrrier
I was there opening night on the 7th. Bonham was on his game. Just a god on the cans!
I saw Zep in June of 77 at MSG, I was a 16 year old drummer with about 5 years experience and already a huge Zep and Bonham fan. But I was still completely blown away by his playing and solo too. I've seen many great players since but no one has recreated the magic of John Bonham. I doubt anyone ever will.

Saw them the very next night the 28th in Tucson and believe me he was still on fire that night, just off the chart.
I have that bootleg as well. Great show, as most were on this tour. Incredible , Lynda...what an experience.

GS and nat maple-the best sounding kits he played-the best shells Ludwig ever produced.
Truly amazing sound .
Curious - how are we sure that is the kit? Photos or something?
@@scottbryant2235 It's documented what kits he used and when
I saw this show. That's when I became addicted to Led Zeppelin and I am still amazed by the music of these 4 gentlemen.
Amazing!
I was lucky to see them in Seattle '72. Epic.
Where was that concert at? I wanted to see them at the Kingdome in '77, but at 14, my dad said I was too young. I had tickets to see them in 1980.

@@bonzorip6162 Right on. Thanks (and thanks for calling it The Coliseum. I never understood why they had to change the name).
@@DeanMk1 Your welcome. Bummer you didn't get to use those tickets in "80. Still makes me sad.
Wow that's amazing! I've heard a bootleg recording of that show and it sounds like one of the best shows they ever did.
Resembles Jesus of Nazareth sitting on his throne
One and only..Bonham the drummer...💪💪👍👍👍
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this GIFT, i can listen to Moby Dick all day, ALL FREAKING DAY, and i am guitar player, Page fan!
Cheers! 😁
I love listening to Jimmy tuning his guitar while Rob is introducing Johnny boy
Down to the low D. 😁👍🏻
@@BONHAMOLOGY is that what he does for Moby Dick ? E down to D ?
Best Bonzo drum solo!
This is so cool, you should remaster all the shows like this. Especially the 1972 performances, the tapes just sound so fuzzy and hissy. Now this is a remaster
They must have nailed that bass drum to the riser to keep it from walking away ....The will definitely never be another BONZO , his son is close, but not quite . I met Jason while he was on his Healing Sixes Tour and he's a super nice guy ....

What a nice treat for Labor Day!

You did a great job with the sound and posting. This truly was a better solo than the one at MSG in ‘73. My late brother’s widow was at this show in Long Beach. She still talks about it.
There is a live ~15min bootleg of Moby Dick I once found as a teenager on Limewire lol...but it is the most ferocious version of Moby Dick I have ever heard and I have never been able to find it again. It sounds like it's from around 72 or 73...maybe even a performance from a different night of their big MSG shows in 73. I really hope I can find that version again one of these days.
Holy shit I actually found the version I was looking for after posting this, for anyone who reads this, this is like one of the most seamless solos I've heard him perform: ruclips.net/user/liveRuZYOB7lZPc?si=dbPykQHwDdYWRb_O

Un tuono!💥💪🥁❤
I started playing drums in 65 obviously Ringo influenced no no other rock drummer to this day have had Bonzos influences. Not the best drummer of all time that belongs to Buddy Rich but in rock Bonham is it. Thank you for this amazing solo.
Best JB solo I've ever heard. Thank you for this.

Absolutely loved this! Very similar to TSRS but more! Wish could see this one!

OMG these extended drum solos can be very tooth pulling tedious EXCEPT WHEN ITS NONE OTHER THAN "BONZO"!! RIP John H. Bonham.
Led Zeppelin
Don't get to see many pictures of that green Sparkle Ludwig set...Nice
It’s too bad Peter Grant was so overprotective of them and so many amazing concerts that should have been recorded on high quality gear is now permanently lost in time.
Is this solo on the implied green sparkle?
Yes. The picture is from a few days before , in San Diego June '72.
George I believe I paid 6 dollars for my ticket in Tucson it had gone up a dollar from my 71 show at the Forum which was 4.75 +25 cents Tax.
That's just mind blowing to me. Wow.
I hear Bonzo's got something to say in here.
I have always thought the YT service was about delivering a video of some quality. Not an audio of a CD quality or better hehe
That is “THE” snare tone.
How did you get the sound that good??
The source is already excellent for a sound board, must be a multi track . I just tweaked it a little bit.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😃na tú dobu celkom dobré🥁👍
👍❤❤❤❤👍
George, you might have to break this one down like the RAH one it’s just to good. Split it with Terry might be to much for one person. Lol.
Was just thinking I may try to tackle some of this!!
BONHAMOLOGY OK George but take your time. Remember JHB was I think around 22 when he did this one I don’t think even he could play this one at 53.
@@BONHAMOLOGY You're pretty darn tough. There are some key parts (or more) I cannot fathom. Give it your best!
Is this an alternate recording of HTWWW, or the other concert they they didn’t use Moby Dick from?
Other concert....read my description.
BONHAMOLOGY Whoops I missed that, thanks!
