Of course, there's the most famous example of Henry Lee Lucas claiming to have killed 100s of people when it's possible (not confirmed) that he only killed 3 people. The horrifying truth is that we don't know how many victims there are and the sad truth is that families may not get the closure they deserve.

I’m a former West Wichitan. My parents were both east siders and mom went to school with the Otero family (the surviving son). We left the city in 1999 but made frequent visits because my father/sibling and grandma still lived there… grandma still in the house on Edgemoor… down the street from the old Otero house. Absolutely terrifying that BTK had such a grip in that city spanning generations. Not only that, but I had teachers in KC who had also been directly affected by him back in the day. I’ll never forget one of them bursting into the other’s classroom yelling “THEY FINALLY CAUGHT HIM!” and none of the other kids knew what they were talking about (though that was when they arrested the he wrong guy)
I later worked with a former CO who transported him and described Rader as “a nice enough guy- good conversationalist. He just happened to like torturing and killing people”.
F*cking eerie how easily they can fly under the radar

I know the story has inspired many movies, but I am really surprised that one hasn’t been made specifically of Holmes. One could see a number of treatments being popular. A stylistic costume drama that cast him as the protagonist, a historical, psychological thriller, or even a bleak and gritty horror movie.

Good retelling of the facts as we know them!
I went to University in Chicago and the stories, true or false, of HH Holmes ranked up there with the "Al Capone on this building" stories.
Watching "American Horror Story" a few seasons ago I laughed when I saw that they had made a huge part of the "hotel" season with all of the lore of HH Holme's hotel with hidden access shoots etc.
_It's as if he was Sweeney Todd himself!_

Hey, Joe you're awesome. Love your content. Before mudgett, there was a family out in kansas that were killing people but not a lot of people know of them. They were the benders. What keeps them from being recognized as being the first serial killers? Keep up the great work.

I have seen numerous videos detailing H.H. Holmes and I completely believed the 100's of victims they all said were definitely killed by him. After watching this video and doing just a small amount of research I am amazed by how much I didn't know and I will not be watching any more of these so called 'fact channels'. Your channel is the best and I love your presentation style. Your ability to make pretty much any subject interesting and fun to learn about is great. You always bring the facts and I have learned more in the last few days than I did in a few years of watching these other channels. Love it!

All the fuss about HH Holmes probably gave them even more cover at the time.

We don't actually have the highest number of serial killers per Capita, we're just the only country that is actively trying to stop them. Russia and China are thought to have way more serial killers, it's just that Russian police are too corrupt and incompetent to even connect a series of murders to a single person, and China just doesn't care because their citizens are expendable. Iceland and the northwest territories in Canada are also thought to be hotspots for serial killers, it's just that the cops are either too understaffed to help, or they don't care because it's just indigenous people disappearing and it's not their problem.

I heard a quote “we sold the be giving killers cool names like the Zodiac, the Night stalker, the ripper, Giggling nanny etc. that Glorifies killing” it makes those with the list to kill carry the it they’re acts, knowing they’ll go down in history...probably with a cool nickname. Then they come to the realization, they have to kill a great number of people or carry out they’re act so horrifically it’s never forgotten.
