That was extremely helpful to me. I couldn't play anymore and after trimming the nails like in this video, voila! I can play again! :D

Thanks for this excellent nail trimming video. I’ve heard and seen many videos about nail length of each hand and trimming for ukulele playing, but as usual, you go into much more depth in your explanations and the reasoning behind your choices. This is the first mention I’ve ever seen of angling the nail. This makes so much sense. Also if brittle nails are a problem, I use a clear base coat nail strengthener that has helped keep my nails from splitting or breaking.

Great tutorial. Thanks Brad. I like some nail, but I don’t find I need to clip mine when they get a little long. I get the angle I hit the strings at and play fine sandpaper as if I’m playing the strings. I get the angle that’s right for me, then I smooth out with a glass file around the edges of the angle, using the file gently in one direction. Once shaped I always have to finish with a buffer. I find that a 4 sided buffer going from slightly coarser to really smooth helps a lot to get rid of any scratchy sounds and really gets my nail super smooth. You can use a buffer most days like this before you play. Buffing is all I need to do most days until the nail grows too long again.

I have been unable to grow nails on strum fingers. The strings wear them down to nothing. I do have glass file. It just makes nails shorter. The strings just file them to nothing. Thanks for suggestions. I wish it applied to me.

Under the nail makes it weak??

Under the nail is used sparingly and mostly for the corners and for rounding out the front edge. But if you find that it's making your nails weak, try to avoid it.
