LOL...they are real Australian sheepskin "Ugh" boots , and are very warm and comfy! Lots of NR's on this line ...they are not much to look at and are very quiet , but pull like a teenage schoolboy...!! Gregg.
Thanks Banjo! It does get chilly in the Hill"s and we do get snow in the highlands in Victoria and New South Wales. Even in the centre of Australia, it can get to freezing in the desert, but no snow due to the low elevation. Gregg :-)
@@FishplateFilms Hi Gregg is it not Spring down under? Snow must be rare specially in Spring. What's going on with your railroad. I thought by now I would be seeing more of it. Lord Stan must be drinking a lot.
Great video, love the beginning I remember waiting four hours on the Union Pacific Overland route before the first train came, found out UP was replacing all the switch heater in western Iowa. Most of the line was under slow orders. Lol. Love the intermodal trains with the different colors. Looks like it was cold that day, how’s the landscaping going? Working on my drop bridge, then all my benchwork will be complete. Great video Gregg, take care Mate, Terry from Nebraska.
Thanks Terry! I've done that and finally found out the line was closed for track work ..so 4hrs wasted but thats how it goes. Plus we don't have the variety of trains here , I've been spoilt by my trip to the US..LOL. Glad to hear you're progressing well on the layout and looking forward to some videos of the work? I should have a layout update done in a week or so and shooting a scenery video on making a hill , but thats a few weeks away. Take care Sir and thanks for the support Terry. Gregg.
Cool vid , it can get a bit chilly down there even at that time of the year !!! You just can't stay away from there , LOL Just found a match for you on tinder , she's orange and black with a touch of yellow and she's big !!! LOL Cheers Glynn
Thanks Glynn! Yes , still a bit chilly in the mornings and when the sun goes down. Just got back from another stay and it was down to 9 on some nights, but a lovely 21 -24 during the day making for a perfect mix. Does she have a sister..LOL. Cheers Gregg.
Another great video from the Mount. Always great to see the NRs. The 82s you caught however were a nice treat for sure. On average, how long is the wait between trains? Thanks for sharing, Gregg!
Thank you Trav! The NR's are so boring but are very good performers and have amazing traction , especially since they only weigh around 130 tonnes! Trains are about 30 -40 mins' apart in the morning but not much happens during the day till late afternoon...but you never know when one will turn up! Cheers Gregg.
Yes , Lofty closed to passengers in 87 , and became a "bed & breakfast" in 2000 , and ran as a guesthouse until 2018. It is vacant now but hopefully will get a new life soon? Gregg:-)
Thanks Jim! Yes , Mt Lofty Station is unique in that it's the summit and tracks fall off in both directions, so you get trains working hard in both directions! It is also in a lovely spot with the "Village " of Stirling , with lots of cafe's, only a short walk away . It is cold in winter but hot in summer, but without the humidity so you don't feel clammy or sweat ! No double stacks through here Jim, the only DS is from Adelaide to Darwin and to Perth, but the new "Inland Rail" project , from Melbourne to Brisbane will be double stack. Cheers Gregg.
Is the gradient 1 in 45 (2.2%) in both directions? I recall reading that the hard pull was eastbound from Adelaide, 19 miles. That's where the 500 class Mountain steam locomotives were used, correct? Also, the curves look very sharp. I have also read that 500 class had problems with the tight curvature in the "Hills" section of the railroad. Do you know the tightest radius or degree of curvature on the line. It sounds like those flanges are really screaming in your videos. Are there mechanical flange greasers used on your lines, the way they are employed on tight curves here in the U.S.A? Here is an article about the SAR 500 Class: archive.org/details/500classarticle
Yes , its 2.2 in both directions , but a little easier from the West if you take train speeds in to account? I don't know the history of the line in the steam days, but the track was broad gauge then ,and was changed to standard back in the 80's , so we'll never see a 500 go over the hills again? There are greasers in many spots on the "Hills" , including one right at the station, which is the high pithc clicking you can hear as the train passes. Cheers Gregg.
Hi Gregg , luv the Ugg Boots . I see you still setting trends once again some impressive camera gear you have there is that an upgrade? Hows the layout going haven't seen any new developments laterley. Keep up the good work, oh I for got , what no donkey LOL. Regards Shaun
Thanks Shaun! The Ugh boots are from "Blue Mountain" boots, and I got them years ago on the way to Lithgow to stay in another old station in Rydal. This is the same gear I took to the US and Canada.....all 15kg of it! I am shooting a layout update this week end and hope to have it posted in a week or so? Thanks for watching and sorry about the lack of Ass......./ Donkey. Gregg.

What ever happened to going out and meeting people that you may want to date? I'm not sure the internet is the best way to find a mate. But that is what happens when the internet become so deeply integrated into everyday life. Lol.
I know Joe, it is a worry and young people are losing the art of conversation and you only have to watch a table of people these days and most of them are on the phone?? For me I'd much rather meet someone by chance socially, but it's a bit harder when you do shift work , as most of my Friday nights I work or are catching up on sleep. Gregg.:-)
very realxing. thankyou for all the captures.

My favorite part was the guy in the bunny slippers. But all those NR's was the cat's pajamas!

Looks like a nice place to wait for trains, you got some good catches too!
It is Joe, very peaceful and relaxing. If only some US style locos would round that curve!!
