  • I spend this episode working on putting in an a solar powered electric fence. Deer and rabbits have raised havoc with my garden. I'd like to be able to get something out of it for me, so it's time to do something about it. The biggest problem seems to be when I'm gone to Colorado moving or dealing with medical issues. Even though Gabby is always with me, she tends to make her rounds and keep critter problems to a minimum, at least while we're here. I hope this helps.
This channel is dedicated to educating and entertaining anyone interested in the art/science of historic restoration, which will include construction techniques and goals, related off-site projects, a little homesteading and off-grid living, history and maybe even a little farming. Since I work alone, and depend on no one, this is the ultimate DIY channel! On this property stands a Dogtrot style log cabin built in 1850, with an addition constructed in the 1970's. Although at one point, this was likely quite a nice and well cared for home, but years of neglect has caused a lot of deterioration. My intent is to have you learn some construction and restoration basics, as you watch. None of my videos are intended to teach the use of safety techniques or use of personal protective equipment. That responsibility is yours and those around you. #constructionlife #gardening #farming

Love the 'werkin music! I had this same problem. Thought I was doing good with deer, till I wasn't. They got a lot of my tomatoes and I don't have any time whatsoever right now to even put in something like you have here. Then I came across some potential wisdom from a 90+'er. He puts a radio with talk radio or preaching on it in the middle of his garden. Says deer won't come if they hear people talking. I tend to agree, though deer nowadays seem to be pretty darn fearless. The main one I got, she isn't even really that scared of me riding behind her on my ATV! For lack of time, I thought I'd give it a go. I have a solar powered radio my mom gave me last year and have it playing pretty loudly from night until after the sun comes up. We'll see how well it works. If it does seem to work, I may invest in running some power out there and building a small shack for a more permanent solution. Hopefully your fence works out for you!

@shelzmike that sounds like a reasonable solution. Now that the electric fence is in, the garden is doing great. I just hope it isn't too late. I put in a second garden box now that I'll probably plant this fall. I'll have to extend my fence to cover that one too.
