Etchings are created on metal plates with the image being lower than the plates-surface. To print, the plate is covered with ink and wiped, leaving only the ink in the grooves, before being passed through a press, squeezing the ink from the grooves onto a piece of damp paper.
Thank you very much for using economy of words, no useless fanfare and clear video work.
As a person well qualified to say so, I throw in my two bits here: Applause to a fine job of explaining the art and a method as well executed as the obvious practice must have been to produce it.
Apart from that, there are variations to the products, materials and techniques. But I am confident that artists will find some of their own ways. I engrave and dry point and often sand the burr off (without scratches) and have concise lines that last as long as those etched.
Acid etching has the characteristic of more fluid movement like those associated with the organic. While hand methods such as dry point and the burin cut the metal with more labor and risk of a slip and require serious skill to master any curve.
Such methods as stipple, grits of sand paper and even electric engravers are employed but less traditional than acid tints.
I thank you for a fine demonstration and with all due respect to a master of this art.
Informative, well explained video on printing an etching. We enjoyed it.
My personal preference is to allow oil based intaglio inks to air dry even if the paper curls, then later re-wet the paper and flatten between blotters. This prevents wet printing ink transferring to overlaying blotters and also prevents any smudging of a fresh print before the ink has dried.
Great video. I'd love to print in such a nice studio!
I'm excited
Bhai tu india me ye sab art dekh ke excite ho raha hai mujhe laga me hi akela hun
Can you use stainless steel as a plate?
How we can make more embossed 1"and more .
What was that name of that acid resist at 1:55 please.
Asphaltum is the main ingredient but many variations exist to even that. In a pinch, asphalt will resist and for a soft ground, Crisco or Vaseline can substitute but experiment with scrap plate to test.
