Great can, I love mine and have a couple of tips for you. When I first shot my sandman with the 30 cal end cap make sure to check your end cap if it starts to loosen on you. Just before shooting check to make sure it’s tight. I talked to Deadair and they said it may have loosened up because of machine oil on the threads. They also recommended if you want you can use a little purple locktite on the end cap threads.
Good info, thanks man! 👍
I did a trust for my Griffin REV-9, took about 6 months from I filled my form 4 to in hand. The wait time has gotten better
Agreed 👍 Let’s hope we didn’t just jinks it by talking about it 🤞
@@CalebDowning not tryn to brag but.....21 days from checks cashed to my safe
Your the anomaly man 😱 Dang that’s some fast times 🤩
@@CalebDowning I know...Even my LGS manager was like.." What did you do"???? lol He told me that he had never even heard of that. I was so stoked and still am. lets just hope our next ones are just as fast! Ps. Congratulations on you Sandman! I love mine
I’m pushing a year 🥺
My two cans (Ghost M and Sandman S) came in May this year. Put them in Feb of 2019. 330+ days. Pisses me off to know that pretty much all cans this year have come back super quick for everyone. My wait was torture.
There’s no method to the NFA/ATF madness 🤯🤦♂️
Completed trust 2 weeks ago, waiting for a Naked Nomad-L to come in along with a Kinetic Mojo 22. I'm excited.
Ya buddy! 😃👊🏻
Nice choice Caleb! I've got one that came out of NFA jail when I returned on this last trip with Rob S. I also have an Energetic Armament "VOX S" and put in the Dead Air QD and it also swaps on an off of all my rifles now. The only thing I could come up with in my head about the pattern on the .30 cal endcap was maybe for ID purposes at a glance. There could be a technical reason that Pappas and the boys at Dead Air could enlighten us on though.
I’ll bet that was a nice thing to come back to 😁 Dead Air’s QD stuff is slick man, that’s what I’m using in my YHM can and really like it.
@@CalebDowning Best in the business IMHO. Story is that when Engergetic Armament created their suppressors, instead of making yet another QD variant they talked to the Dead Air crew and asked if they could use theirs. BRAVO on that move...smart, efficient and collaborative.
Nice, it is refreshing to hear of folks in the gun industries working together to make a better product and not just to make money.
I’ll have to look more into more into Energetic Armament. I fee like my next purchase should be a good 22 can.
@@CalebDowning Pretty sure my .22 can will be a Dead Air "Mask". I' really want to get a 22-45 from Ruger and mount that thing on it. Loads of fun and CHEAP shooting!
Pretty much what I had in mind as well 👌
In my experience the E brake has been good at reducing some back pressure and muzzle flash. You'll appreciate it if youre running nods.
Nice! I’m hoping to get some nods when they get back in stock 🤞
Nods?

The flash hider end cap works massively better (for flash reduction). Love the ebrake on my nomad/300blk combo though.
Dead Air L..... Volume is the key to
Turning Up The Silence!
The three prong flash hider/ Brake from Son's of Liberty are out standing!
Volume is key, agreed 👌
Are you referring to the “NOX”? I’ve heard good things about that one.
@@CalebDowning 😃.
I run the Dead Air L. It has just a touch more volume than the S....
Both are outstanding choices.....👍👍
The L has more volume for my larger cartridges in
.30...bit more weight and length when on my SBR or pistols.....but the bit of added volume makes the .300 AAC stupid quite with subs.....🤠
Never changed the front cap for use with .556... The rep at Dead Air told me that the difference between them with a super sonic round like .556 was minimal. A follow-up post on your finding would be looked forward to...😉
Check it the Son's of Liberty three prong KeyMoe mount....I run them on all my "Hosts"
Good snag....you just cannot go wrong with Dead Air!!!!!
Welcome to Club
Sandman!
@@CalebDowning Been awhile since I bought them....yes the name is NOX. You will be pleased with them.
Index them with shims. Use a angle finder gage and a level on the flat top of your rifle.....the POI is the same every time.
Makes a very Predictable set up.....even rifle to rifle!
Good stuff Robert 👍
I’ll check out the Sons Of Liberty stuff for sure. I’ll definitely shoot a video of the 5.56 vs 30cal end caps. It’ll also be interesting to see how the E-Brake effects things.
I would love to hear how you like the Sandman-S to the RC2556. I've been wondering which one to get forever now. SureFire QC and durability is top notch but the mounting solution of the Keymo seems way better.
Great comparison. I have a video kinda like that coming up. But in short, it’s dang near impossible for me to like one over the other. The Surefire mount has all the nostalgia points but you won’t be able to run it under a rail with that lockup system. So both have their pros and cons. That would make a good “short” video 🤔
I think popular opinion would lean towards the Surefire. They're both great cans. Slightly different use-cases. I would probably go for the Surefire. Both attachment systems are phenomenal.
Great video man. I love the small guys videos just like this. My DeadAir Sandman K is currently in jail lol.
Anyone have a lead on where those end caps for the suppressors are located specifically one for 223/556?
They seem pretty cool. I just bought one on Saturday and putting it on a galil ACE
Very nice 👍 I’m really liking mine.
How did it work out on the 7.62x39?
@@autohog I have the 555 pistol. The 762 would be awesome tho with subsonic tho. I’ll let ya know how in a few months after it’s outta NFA jail for the 556. I have the kns adjustable gas piston so it should be easy peasy 🤙
I love my sandman S. I run it on a 16” piston driven AR
Nice man 👍
IMO OSS 556 TI takes the cake!
I do like the concept of their flow through design 👌
Thanks for posting this video, I have the SMS762-MIL (FDE “military contract overrun” version of the Sandman S) currently in NFA jail, hoping to get a chance to go shoot it today (the range that’s doing my transfer lets you shoot any NFA pending items you have that they are holding for you on their range) but I can’t wait to be able to finally bring it home! I have the 556 flash hider front cap as well but I need to order the front cap removal tool so I can install it and and try it out and see the difference for myself.
That’s exciting man! I was tempted to get the Mil version but I already had the S and couldn’t justify getting another one. Nice choice 👍
@@CalebDowning appreciate it 👍🏻….lol right, 2 of literally the same can all except the color on the outside lol, but I did get to go shoot it on Friday and it was more than I was hoping for. The range is an 83yd 5-6 lane indoor range so the sound still bounced all over the place but you could tell it was the round breaking sound versus noise at the muzzle if that makes sense lol, I’m definitely happy with my choice, it’s a SOLID can that will definitely handle all my gas-gun and bolt-gun needs. Now just need a rimfire suppressor LOLOL
Very nice 🤙
Get the Dead Air Mask and join their Asylum 😃
@@studentofthe556 you taken it home yet!? Looking at the exact same can
You got a like from me for the Connor Macleod sword in the background 🤣
👊🏻🗡
Mine took 8 1/2 months. I love it you will too. Please let me know when you shot a 308 through it.
That’s not too bad of a wait. It’s a great can for sure. If Dead Air releases a Mil version of the K then I’ll probably get that one too. I’ll try and do a dedicated review video with the S once we get the range situation worked out up here.
@@CalebDowning Awesome thank you. I am looking at a Silencerco can.
Mine took 11 months exactly. Got it out at the end of June and that just so happens to be when all these 5-6 month wait times started rolling in. Of course
Murphy’s law 😏
Kinda sucks that Huntertown Arms is no longer around. They were down the street from me and had really good pricing for folks getting into the market. There aren't too many manufacturers in the Hoosier state.
It was pretty sad to see them go. Maybe by now they would have updated their cans to work better 😂🤷♂️
I have both the sandman s and the nomad. Nomad is great with lower back pressure. But if I had to do it over (for the $)I’d have bought 4 YHM cans rather than 2 DeadAir. Love my turbo k
Dang, those are heavy words. I like the honest. I do love my YHM Turbo and I’m very tempted to try and get my hands on the R9 🤔
@@CalebDowning yea the R9 looks very interesting. The most redeeming quality to me on DeadAir is the QD design. And I love how YHM’s new stuff can accept it. Great thinking on their end.
Do the YHM cans have better performance compared to a similar dead air can?
I have a comparison video on that. It’s hard to get an apples to apples comparison with the 5.56 Turbo and 30 cal Sandman but they are close. Subjective but close.
For 556 SBR use what do you like better? Your sandman-s or your Surefire rc can.
I’d honestly probably choose the Sandman-S. The Surefire might be a little shorter but it’s a negligible difference in sound reduction.
Just paid for mine today thru silencershop, now the wait. Like you, I dont like muzzle brakes at all, with they gave the option to choose what muzzle device you would like. Did you ever try the E brake thing ? Does it work ?
Excellent Robert 🎊🎉 That wait though 🤦♂️ Just don’t think about it and it’ll pass quick.
I do have the E-Brake. It’s not a magical difference but it does make a slightly noticeable change. I’m glad I got one and I’d get it again if I haven’t already.
Hey Caleb another billion dollar question. I’m serious thinking about changing out my 16” DDM4V7 16” to a DD MK18 10.3” and I’m STILL waiting on my Sandman S to get out of ATF jail (5 months now), good idea or bad idea and will I have the audio an flame suppression on a (now/then) SBR?? Thank you an thank you for your timely response
Hey man,
Ok so short answer…I can’t really answer that for you. It’s gonna depend on what you want to get out of the rifle/pistol/SBR. My “go to” AR is my 11.5” pistol. It check all the boxes I need it to do.
My 10.3” Colt is super smooth and an absolute blast to shoot. I don’t think I’d ever get rid of my 11.5/10.3 AR’s.
The Sandman-S is does a great job at killing flash but any suppressor is gonna have a hard time killing the flash entirely from a 10.3” shorty barrel. Adding the flash hider endcap does help.
I hope that’s helpful 🤔
I’m at a 143 days since check was cashed...... ugh and no info as of yet
I wish they had a better tracking system 😏 It’ll just go from “pending” to “approved” some random day 🤷♂️
I love my Wolfman
Excellent can 👌
Is the sandman s hearing safe on an AR pistol 300 blackout using subsonic ammo?
Yes. I shoot 200gr subs and they sound good out of the S. Here’s a video I did comparing the dead air cans specifically on 300BLK.
ruclips.net/video/7Y3rILO106o/видео.html
Hey guys, I just got approved this Dec 6, but no stamp yet. Why is it taking the ATF about a month to just get the stamp to the FFLs dealer?
I heard, and could be totally wrong, that the folks doing the stamps are taking the Forms home in batches and then mailing them in batches. So if you happened to be at the end of their stack and got approved then you’d get your stamp relatively quickly, but if you were in the top of the list then you’d get approved abs have to wait till all the other Forms were done.
That’s my understanding of it 🤷♂️
So I've been looking at the Nomad pretty hard lately but I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a little worried about it's durability with the 17-4 baffles instead of Stellite. I mainly want the Nomad for it's adapter modularity. I wish they would make the Sandman in a modular adapter model. I'm pretty heavily invested in Griffin Tapers so switching mounting systems is not too appealing. Thanks for the video!
If you’ve already got Griffin mounts and don’t want to have to start over with Dead Air mounts then I’d go with the Nomad. Unless you are going to actually do torture tests, full auto, or extended bump-fire sessions then I don’t think you’d run into any issues with the Nomad.
I’m saying all that only going off what I’ve heard, so take that advice with a grain of thought.
What I can say from experience is that the Sandman feels tough as nails and does well on everything I’ve shot it on.
@@CalebDowning If you could please help me with this , would the nomad 30 work with my Griffin flash/comp M4SD model, thanks
If they both have a 1.375x24 thread pattern they’ll work.
Putting paper work in on a sandman s in a day or 2. I’ll probably run it mostly on .556 ar’s or .300blk ar’s.
Did yours come with the end cap removal tool? I know the .556 cap is sold separate. The black sock still come with them? I know they quit sending the red socks with the .22 mask hd.
Nice 👍
Mine didn’t come with the black sock or endcap tool, it’d have been nice if it had though.
@@CalebDowning did you have to order the sock separately? I thought I saw one in the video?
My bad. The sock DID come with the suppressor. I never use it so I forgot about it.
@@CalebDowning ok cool. I contacted dead air. They said they switched manufacturers and it caused too much of a delay. About a year ago they said they quit including the socks. Just incase you wanted to know.
Have you tried it on an AK? Thinking of coupling the Sandman S with 7.62x39. I'd like to know your thoughts regarding dB, blowback etc
I have tried it on a PAP M92. It’s better than my other 30 cal suppressor(Huntertown Arms Kestrel 7.62 AK). I don’t have DB numbers but I will say it was still pretty spicy on the 10” PAP barrel.
Correct me if I'm wrong... I'm no professional nor expert but I've been told repair to your suppressor is allowed for the guts as long as the serial is matched to the tube and the bore remains the same... That being said using that 5.56 flash hider would reduce the bore? Would it be allowed?
The NFA/ATF is a funny-bunny. One day they’ll say one thing and the next they’ll forget and act like they have no idea.
I know there are some things that you can do to your NFA items and others that require submitting forms. As for now I’m not aware that changing out your end cap necessities paperwork.
@@CalebDowning hey thanks cause I've thought about getting a .30 cal suppressor and using it for my .300wm and 22.250 as well... a .556 flash hider isn't necessary but I'm looking for sound suppression to confuse coyotes. My buddy hunts with one and they hear the echo back towards the shooter and generally run towards us... When I shoot (non suppressed) they know exactly where I am
@@aaronvenden8649 Interesting, thanks
The 30cal bore will help some with gas from my time using both a 5.56 and 30 cal cans.
Sounds about right 👌
I know this is older videos . But I know u deal with a lot of cans …I should be days away from my first 2 cans ever, is it really important to check suppressor/barrel alignment? So there’s no baffle strike? I feel like everyone just throws on can & runs it
Some people will just look down the barrel with the suppressor attached and check to see if the can is off center. I generally will check the alignment of a can when I install a new muzzle device, but after that I don’t worry about it much.
I generally get my rods from McMaster. You’ll just need to know your bore size and get a rod with an appropriate diameter.
I pulled this info from a forum:
* .2031″ - P/N 8893K187 - Good general purpose rod for 22 caliber suppressor alignment - should work well for distinctly undersized match .22LR bores (think CZ452/455 at .210-.212″ bore diameter), but otherwise may be a slightly loose fit;
* .212″ - P/N 8893K191 - Better fit for many standard 22 caliber bores (.22LR at .217″ bore diameter, .223/5.56 at .219″ bore diameter, etc.)
* .250″ - P/N 8893k204 - Good fit for 6.5mm Creedmoor/Grendel bores (.256″ bore diameter);
* .295″ - P/N 8893K217 - Good fit for 7.62×39, .308, 300BLK and most Western 30 caliber bores (.300″ bore diameter)
* .339″ - P/N 8893K229 - Good fit for 9mm (.346″ bore diameter)
* .4219″ - P/N 8893K252 - Slightly looser fit for .45 ACP (.442″ bore diameter). Stepping up to a .4375″ rod (P/N 8893K254) may generally work, but could be too tight for rare cases.
@@CalebDowning appreciate the info. This helped, I think I’ll get a rod just to be on safe side seeing I waited all this time
Man I was torn between the Sandman S and the Nomad 30... I went with the Nomad 30 after watching Sagedynamics review when he shot the hell out of his even on full auto and I was sold. I kind of want to pick up the Sandman K with a 22cal flash hider end cap for one of my 16" guns.
That sounds like a very solid choice 👍 I’m glad I got the S but the Nomad looks reeeally tempting 🤔
I just ordered this one for my 5.56. Do I need to order the end cap for 5.56 or will it not make that much difference
You may as well get it. I do find that it’s helps a little, enough that I think it’s worth it.
E brake supposedly 1-2 db's softer!
I can attest to that. I’m guessing it’s working like a diffuser and allowing more gas out the ebrake and less out of the port.
Yeah man, it was TTG in March 2020!
👌I remember it was right at the beginning of the great toilet paper crisis 🤦♂️
🤦🏼♂️yeah...still haven’t figured that one out yet...😂😂

Hello. Apologies, but I would like to know the thought again on Dead Air Sandman S on my 16” DDM4V7?? I know we had spoke some time ago on the same subject but after thinking about out conversation, one I realize that I had not subscribed when I thought I had and two, I was feeling like and thinking that you were trying say that I should go with the Dead Air S and I thought you were saying that I should go with the YHM turbo K, could you please clarify please and thank you. Thank you an thank you for your timely response
Hey there,
So if you can refresh my memory that’d help. If you are planning on running a dedicated suppressor on your DDM4V7, then the Turbo K will probably be better for you. But if you want a more versatile suppressor that you can use on multiple guns then getting the Sandman S would make more sense.
Also, if you are going to use the Dead Air KeyMo mount then it’s actually almost cheaper to get the Sandman over the the Turbo+KeyMo.
@@CalebDowning ok, yes, I plan on keeping the van on my DDM4V7 16” an never removing it. I’m REALLY liking that keymo hookup as well!! The ratching sound lets me know it’s on good an right and I’m sure other can companies are looking to goin to that as well!! But yes I’m not planning on taking off the can at all, that will be it’s permanent home!! Thank you and thank you for your timely response and keep up the excellent extremely informative videos!! They truly are awesome 👍🏾👍🏾
@@CalebDowning I’ll probably go ahead an go with your recommendation and go with the Sandman but would the S be good on my 16”, because I truly do want to remove my signature (flash) and sound reduction?? Thank you an thank you for your timely response
Glad to be of help 👍
@@CalebDowning hey I have a billion dollar question, would it hide my glad better to use a flash hider with the Sandman S?? Thank you an thank you for your timely response
135 days???! I'm so fuckin mad. I don't even know if I can finish watching this.
Haha, sorry man
Soooo what was wrong with your wolfman? Never showed a picture
Oops,
The Wolfman came in a little warped. They did a great job fixing it but dang… if I haven’t caught it, I’d have blown another hole through it 😬
Now that you’ve had it for a bit, what are your thoughts on shooting 5.56 through this? Trying to decide between this can and the Surefire 5.56 RC2
I think if I was pushed to it I’d pick the Sandman. With the 5.56 endcap installed, the Sandman-S really has a good sound/tone.
It is a bit more functional than the Surefire I think. More mounts are available for the Sandman I think and you can use the different endcaps and the E-Brake.
The Surefire is pretty iconic and can be clone correct for certain builds. It does sound good and has a great reputation.
But in the end I’d get the Sandman-S over the Surefire if I could only have one.
@@CalebDowning thanks caleb, appreciate the feedback. After some more poking around/research, I’m gunna have to say I agree.
Mine took 2 years about the same time.
Dang 🤦♂️
Hey bud! Do you know what thread the brake that comes with the Sandman-S is?
Mine was 5/8x24
Sweet! Thanks homie! Have a great night.
Not a problem 👍 Sweet dreams 😁
What is the overall length on the 11.5?
The Sandman-S adds about 4.3” to the overall length.
"In NFA terms that's not that bad" (me crying at 337 days)
Dang man 🤦♂️
@@CalebDowning it’s averaging in the 340-360 range currently.

What is wrong with your wolfman?
It wasn’t aligned properly and would have had a massive baffle strike if I had actually shot it.
Dead Air fixed it up for me though 👍

I like to run it with the eBrake on most of the time, it makes a noticeable difference.
