Love how Robert Plant can go on stage with what seems like absolutely no makeup, hairstyling or anything done to him, with street clothes, no autotuning and still delivers performances as totally amazing as he did 40 years ago!!!!
13 years later, here in 2021, I just now learned about Robert Plant and Alison Krauss singing this awesome song together. Better late than never because now I think I'm going to have to listen to it several times a day.
I need a soundboard recording of this one. The climax from where the standup bass player drags that note up is stunning. Cheers to the drummer as well. A very Bonham-esque drum roll at the peak.
Hardest rocking mandolin song ever! With all the hard rock songs they recorded I still place this as their pinnacle best A Krause was born too late- an emotional nod to the late Sandy Denny the only outside artist allowed inside the inner circle
Just such an utterly, indescribably, beautiful song and the harmonies of Alison Krauss's and Robert's voice here are so perfect it makes me want to cry. Sandy Denny would be very very proud:-))))))))))))
Brilliant collaboration. Robert with Allison is simmply majestic. A haunting song that will make you cheer for more. Robert is still irreissistible as ever.
I would of never guessed in a million years that Robert plant would be singing bluegrass after being a ROCK GOD with the biggest rock band of all time. It's cool that they do zep songs! Great melody here!
I sit here stunned. Can Alison Krauss sing rock and roll? Yes, she can! Brought me to tears. Gorgeously done by a rock and country legend duo! p.s. I saw Led Zep live in 72 and 78 in LA; and saw Plant live in 89 in his solo career. I have always loved good country music, and have liked Alison ever since Union Station days. This is a great, great cover of a classic~!
This song was playing when i arrived at my junior graduation party at our farmhouse on a stunningly beautiful afternoon...outside...with my first love and all my friends...mid 70's....Jesus...the memory hurts sometimes....lol
I'm mostly a Rock and Roller, but Allison Krauss has become one of my all-time favorite entertainers; she is spectacular at whatever she does. She's singing along and you think it's great; then you find she has three or four more gears left, when the song requires it. Check out her rendition of "When the Levee Breaks"; it will give you goosebumps...
yeh, soldierboy, caught that 2 years ago, but really, seems less time than she was playing with Union Station here on Queen street in toronto, really, time does fly. Love to hear her again, though, kind of lost touch, we used to know each other from that scene. She is a consumate musician, and a master of all she tries.
Man if you have an ounce of Celtic blood in your veins, Allison's banshee wail has it percolating. It's quite unsettling, and I think that's just what Robert had in mind when Zeppelin first recorded it with Sandy Denny doing the female vocals 41 years ago. Jeez, I can't believe that it's been that long!
This song was AMAZING at Red Rocks in Denver. Red Rocks is such an awesome venue and has this incredible ambience. Get someone like Robert and Alison in there with a song like this and you're just blown away. Thanks for posting this one! Anyone got a recording of the Red Rocks show??
I agree with you here. The videos don't capture Krauss' vocal range well at all. They also fail to convey the sheer bloody power of her voice. She can just about push you back in your seat.
Robert Plant bumped into Sandy Denny at a music awards ceremony, where both were receiving awards ; Denny for top female vocalist for the umpteenth time - and with Zeppelin IV still in the making , Plant asked her to sing on one of their new songs. The rest is history . Sandy Denny could sing the telephone directory and make it sound good . An amazing talent who was taken from us much too early , and who didn't receive the recognition or rewards her peerless voice and songwriting deserved. Btw, she also played the part of nurse in the stage and album version of Tommy.
Thats freaking Robert Plant..Robert Plant...and you can tell he is ready to JAM!!!...Allison Krauss should thank the good Lord above...Robert Plant...Go Robert!
I really wish there were an official version of this version live. All there seem to be are cam vids which are fine for a quick look but it can't capture Krauss' vocal range which makes your hairs stand on end.

They are magical together. Their voices blend together so well.
Oh my god, the chills are going up and down my body...
Oh man, simply stunning. Couldn't ask for a better duet.
Beautiful pairing of two fantastic voices. Kudos.
good lord. that gave me goosebumps. robert's voice sounds just like the original recording in this one
Her voice is perfect for this song.
I can't believe how timeless this music is. It rocks!
so fantastic, absolutely breath taking rendition of a classic song.
I forget what a great stage presence Robert Plant is. Very professional. Nice team here!
He still sounds amazing. Such an iconic voice

She can harmonize with anyone and he brought out the ROCK harmonize in her amazing Duo !

The best version of this anywhere-on record live anywhere. I hope they eventually find the material to bring their synergenic vocals together again.

Allison was born the year this song first came out!

Plant is unique: he does not repeat himself, grew up, uses his reduced voice very well.
So accurate!
Makes me Cheer and cry. I wish I could go back to 1969 and relive the Zeppelin years.
You've got to be kidding me! This is awesome!!
one of my top fav songs
This song was playing when i arrived at my junior graduation party at our farmhouse on a stunningly beautiful afternoon...outside...with my first love and all my friends...mid 70's....Jesus...the memory hurts sometimes....lol

Just Awesome!!!

Got to give them credit. They realized it could work if they collaborated. Nice!

Looks Great

Jean Marie Harvell you are welcome and your cute
That was very good. Fantastic arrangement.
civil wars should cover this
I love it when they do a LZ song.
Ab-so-lutely fkn sensational !!
That’s really exquisite
What a rendition.
Excellent blend
"sniff" that was BEAUTIFUL "sniff" WAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Sandy Denny was the only person other than the original members that ever appeared on one of their albums.
SO GOOOOD! NOM NOM NOM!

Great combination! Allison did righteous justice to this song - full on emotion & effort....almost as good as original.
Now that was cool.
Thats freaking Robert Plant..Robert Plant...and you can tell he is ready to JAM!!!...Allison Krauss should thank the good Lord above...Robert Plant...Go Robert!
the video is what it is but thanks for posting. I did enjoy the music :)
il est toujours là cool!
Actually if you listen to the heart cover of this with just Anne and Nancy playing the mandolin and accoustic guitar, they get VERY close...
This is one of the best non-Sandy versions that I have heard.
This is probably the only valid one that doesn't have Denny on it.
Plant has reverb add to his voice, Krauss doesn't need it....she's holding back....perfect duet...
Wicked, you were spot on with your assessment. While her voice sounds great in a condenser mic on this, she's amazing.
exelente robert
the sunlight blinds his eyes..
This is wonderful.!! There must be a final version for release very soon!!!
I really wish there were an official version of this version live. All there seem to be are cam vids which are fine for a quick look but it can't capture Krauss' vocal range which makes your hairs stand on end.
This is better than the 1994 version he did with Plant. Krauss nails the female vocal parts and Plant sounds good. One of my top 3 fave Zep tunes
Holy Jesus, Robert is the man.
wonderful.
Very Nice!
GOD BLESS T BONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn is this good!
Robert is still the coolest ever
Kicks ass!
Wish i woulda went to see them live
