People lose their virginity between 17-18 on the average for both genders, after that, being a "virgin" card is obviously loss; for someone sexually active or "charged" having a several partners after that is normal, and the "stigma" behind being sexually active is more irrelevant than ever now. But after reaching a certain age, and this goes ESPECIALLY for females, who's first time is far more intimate for them than a male, while being a virgin, let's say, after 20+, not more a teen, but a young adult now, then losing their v-card becomes even a far more intimate task, because for something (as funny as it sounds) that you have kept for so long, then losing it to whoever the fuck is out of the convo, finding a special someone YOUR AGE = Most-likely not a virgin, and far more experienced than you, whom you could share that special occassion with is a much more emotional task by a landslide compared to when you where just a carefree teenager.
I'm not a woman, but yeah... That's kind of how it is. It's not a big deal because I don't have the insecure mind of a teenager anymore, I don't crave validation and I'm not desperate to "fit in" like people often are around those ages, I'm not cynical and edgy etc, but it's a big deal from an adult perspective: It's just a total lack of experience in a certain crucial category of human experience, and the consequences of having lived the kind of life that someone who ends up in this position would live. It just didn't happen, and given how life is, the more you're able to do, and the younger you do it, the more competent of an adult you end up becoming. Of course from that follows that those things you didn't do, limit what you're able to do, and limit your options, in the dating world, but also much more generally, in life. I am what I am, and I don't know how to have relationships with people, because it never happened. Of course, I've adjusted to this position, as people do, their standards and demands for life aligning with what they succeed and fail at, but of course, I see examples of people who've walked, and continue to walk, better paths all around me, and even if you've mostly accepted how things are, having (implicitly and explicitly) some deficit of yours be highlighted in the world around you can still get to you.

If you get to be an older virgin, the virginity, itself, becomes an impediment to dating or relationship-formation. People become very self-conscious of the fact that everyone else around them in the dating pool has years or even decades of experience and they literally have none. It puts them into a completely different class of person when it comes to dating, and many people are really unable to relate to them because their situation is so different. Even if you have a caring partner or potential partner, it takes a lot to be the hard carry in that situation, and many people in the real world just don't have it in them to try to teach their 30-something significant other literally everything about sex, giving them a crash course to try to rapidly catch them up on all the stuff that most people slowly absorb over many years of living. Lots of potential partners become daunted by the prospect and bail out early, which makes the problem self-perpetuating.
