If the colour is to be added at the start to the dry ingredients, you’d have to make separate batches and then add colour to one batch only. The idea may help, but I’m not sure if the liquid drop of colour will mix well with the dry ingredients. It could happen that a certain few strands of coconut just absorb more of the colour and then the mix may look irregular. That said, it’s still a worthwhile idea to try. If you do try it and it works great, let me know? I can pin your comment and it may help other viewers ❤️🤗
@FlorencyDias Thanks for replying 😊 we can add color to half of the condensed milk so it can be mixed evenly, I will try and let you know, Thank you again 😊
These would look so beautiful with the candied orange peel and cooked cranberries coated in sugar that I make every year! So nice on a holiday tray....thanks 4 this awesome recipe! ❤
Looks Devine and scrumptious. I have a fondness for this mint colour… memories of those lovely crème like , after dinner mint chocolates. Although let’s face it.. anything delectable and moorish .
Thanks a tonne for this recipe, it has come out really well without any hazard. And your measurements were just perfect. It is delicious as ever. Thanks again for sharing the recipe ❤
Ooooh! That’s something I’d love to try once I get my hands on those sweetened condensed coconut milk tins! Will certainly r have to reduce the sugar in that case💫 Thanks for this info!
I made this around 9pm and realized I didn't have sweetened condensed milk. So I found a youtube chef who showed how to make it from slowly heating milk and sugar, and made some. I wasn't going back out to the store for a second trip.
@@betsybarnicle8016Did the homemade "Sweetened Condensed Milk" work good in this recipe? Someone made a couple cakes with that type. & Cakes tasted very different than what I was used to her making (not good different). Thanks for ur input or suggestions!!
@@RonaldCrook-k4p It worked out for this recipe just fine. It took about 30 minutes on medium-low heat to get the thick consistency (but that was because I only had 2% milk and some light cream - you really need whole milk). I successfully had these treats on my family Christmas gathering cookie platter, and they disappeared.
@@betsybarnicle8016 Thanks for the reply. I know she NRVER buys Whole Milk so maybe thats the difference it makes in taste/ texture in the Cakes. Did u successfully color the Candy. I am debating whether or not to. 😊
@RonaldCrook-k4p Yes. I only had red, but it didn't take much to turn half of it red. Then I sprinkled white sugar decorative sprinkles on top. Good for the holidays. I liked the blue, so maybe for next year.
Thank you, Kerry! You can reduce the sugar by a few spoonfuls, if you think it too sweet. Yet, the ingredients do serve a purpose. Sugar helps it harden and stay long 🤗
Florency, I have been viewing your videos since 2020. Thank you again for this recipe. Since the main ingredient is coconut, does it need refrigeration or is it safe to keep out? I remember my Mom's advice that coconut-based sweets should be refrigerated. Her reason, "Baatho mantha! " 😃. I am in the US, so does the old wisdom still hold true? To you and your family, "A merry, blessed and joyous Nataal!".
Hello, Genevieve! Thanks for your interest in my recipe 🤗 Once air-dried, you can store them in an airtight container. They’ll last for a good month or even two. They don’t need to be refrigerated but if you wish to store them for much longer, then you may do so :)
Hi Jacinta! So glad to read your comment 🤗 Since this won’t be cooked, only make sure no contaminants enter the mixture. Hands are always the best tools :)
Hello, Evitra! How good it is to hear from you❤️ Hope you are well! Coming to your query, if you use fresh you’ll have to cook the sweet, to dry out the water content. Otherwise the sweet won’t set and it’ll have to be consumed in a few days. Using desiccated (dried) coconut, you can have an almost instant recipe, with a shed-life of 1 to 2 months. Hope this is helpful
Hi! I recommend storing it in an airtight container. At room temperature it can last for a month or even two, if kept free from any external moisture contamination. If you plan on storing it even longer, then refrigerate it. And if you use your hands to mix the ingredients, then refrigeration is best to help preserve it for long. I use powdered sugar since it’s easy for me (it’s just ground sugar). Icing sugar is a mixture of powdered sugar and a little cornstarch. But you can use either, they are quite the same! Hope this is helpful ✨
Where I’m from, powdered sugar and icing sugar are two different things. The latter has cornstarch added to regular powdered sugar as an anti-caking agent. Hope this helps 🤗
In New Zealand, yes it’s icing sugar, no cornstarch added. You can actually make your own, just put sugar in a food processor and blitz. It doesn’t take long.
You can get vegan condensed milk, it's a bit thicker, but the end result and taste is almost the exact same (I make regular and vegan versions, my son has a milk protein allergy)
Icing sugar is regular powdered sugar with a little cornstarch added to it. Not much of a difference, so you may use either. I used powdered sugar since I can just grind normal granulated sugar at home! No need of the additional purchase🤗
@FlorencyDias Thank you for the explanation. I live in Germany, we don't have icing sugar as you described. I thought it was just the difference between british and American english 😘
@@bridge6649 for the most partbit is. In new zealand its the same thing. So them telling you it isn't, is not correct without a notation of where they live
Why can't you add color to the dry mixture first, would be lot easier to mix, don't you think?
If the colour is to be added at the start to the dry ingredients, you’d have to make separate batches and then add colour to one batch only. The idea may help, but I’m not sure if the liquid drop of colour will mix well with the dry ingredients.
