It's called "transverse mounted". Most cars these days are as such, and most smaller SUV's. Also the spark plugs are easier to change (firewall side) on the 3.5 ecoboost engine. I just bought one last week and I love it!
I did not know there was a fwd version.. i have a 2014 interceptor, i also have the 3.7 awd. When i bought it i was under the impression it was the ecoboost and was pretty upset when i found out it wasnt but i did alot of research and im actually glad now. The EcoBoost has alot of problems. Thats fine for the police because they use all our money to repair them, but me, i got to do it myself so im happy to have the 3.7. Its still fast as hell, i call it my "race tank made by Mercedes" . Its fast as all hell, designed to do severe damage to any car in my way and not be bothered, and its stupid comfortable. Im a full time single dad, but im a racecar guy so this is getting both the perfect family car for my kid, its probably the safest one u can get out there and i still get my racecar daily driver. The only thing i had to sacrifice was its automatic. I can deal with it tho lol
A week, maybe a week and a half ago Mass had these 2-3 days where it was so cold out. And my 13’ Taurus ended up overheating in single digit weather. Long story short, I found out he needs a new water pump. And just today I paid out $1,200 and got my car back. Most of the cost came from labor considering mine is the 3.5L v6 awd and in order to replace the water pump, you have to take the engine out essentially. Still wouldn’t trade my Taurus for anything. Awesome video as always, keep up the great work!
technically the full name is a Ford Taurus Police Interceptor Sedan, if you run the VIN on any of these cars the make and model is listed as a Ford Taurus and the trim level is Police Interceptor, not the model. I know Ford was trying to market the new interceptors as the PI Sedan and PI Utility but they still officially kept Taurus and Explorer on the VINs as the models, just like the CVPI was officially a Crown Victoria with the Police Interceptor trim/package. I believe Ford was trying to differentiate the Taurus and Explorer PIs from the civilian versions since people buying the civilian versions new for 30 or 40 or 50k loaded with luxury options don't want their car to be confused with a stripped out cop car with rubber floors. Civilian CVs were never that popular since the tough police image of the car ruined the image of the civilian luxury car, and the mercury and lincoln versions did much better even though it's clearly the same car.
Which one of those engines is the one with the water pump buried deep into the engine block? Been trying to buy one but there aren't any mechanical yt videos on those particular interceptors.
Unfortunately all of them. Its a real buzzkill but it can be done. There is a bunch of videos for it. Dont look for the car, just look for the motor. Mine is the 3.7 and im actually about to do the waterpump. I have been thru hundreds of videos for it on my motor. There are some for all
Great video bro and like I said on IG yea I think I'm gone go with the 3.7 to add to my Vic cuz the Ecoboost is too many problems don't have the patience for that car will come up missing real quick
I love my 2011 SHO. She dyno's at 478 after turbos and bolt in upgrades. There is nothing better than leaving a mustang at a light without a chance. Be warned though, the maintenance is VERY expensive.
Transverse engine. “Newer” cars has transverse engines due to fwd. Look under where your battery is. Thats where the transmission is located. I’ve only owned 1 fwd transverse engine car for a few months and the others were longitudinal V8’s. I’m used to longitudinal V8’s 🙌
Huh and my police department dose not like it because they feel cramped no room they ether like the explorer or the crown vic bc my police department still has one
Umm. Are these people like 7ft9 and 500lbs or something? Because i am 6"2 and 250lbs, my 2014 police interceptor sedan has massive amounts of room. I have had friends in the car, i always have my kid with me, never had any issue with room at all. If anything it has to much room and often feels like its to big...im guessing the people ur talking about are from a ancient giant tribe of people lol
@@ademworthwent1168 I agree with you on the sedan spacing, it’s great, but we have to keep in mind police officers do carry a whole inventory of equipment on their body’s, I couldn’t imagine having to drive around with my body filled with attachments/ guns / radio, alll that shit

you have to take the engine out just to replace the water pump, i don't think i'll ever buy a newer car
How many miles and hours did it take a shit on u ?

How’s that car holding up? I’m planning on buying one eventually
I got a 2015 and I’d highly recommend, just make sure to take it to a trusted mechanic asap to replace old parts, I had a Burnt fuze
I don't like the new responder thing. At least the taurus and explorer still had a nice mean look not too modern.
If you have a Crown Vic, Coyote Swap it.
ATX-CVPI what does that mean “coyote swap it”

I have a 2017 police intercepter, I wish someone could tell me how to remove the dark zone , interior lights
This dude 100% loves that people might mistake him for a cop/cop car 😅
The FPIS also had a 4th option from 2014 on, a 2.0 I4 EcoBoost
I'm still waiting for some performance runs.. I hate waiting

Shannon CVPI the ecoboost is the SHO motor.... id go for that
@@beatersho3497 yea but Ecoboost having problems with the turbo & the trans is like glass from what I been reading on
My 01 mercury sable has the belt on the side also
I think most fwd or fwd based awd systems mostly have sideways mounted engine
Darin Fitz you'd be correct
Darin Fitz It’s called transverse mounted.
There is guy in my state who pretty much selling police interceptors and I'm saving my money to get the Ford explorer I like how they look

Did your interceptor come with a locking safe in your trunk?
DurdenTyler21 nope
All of the taurus had the engine placed that way I have a 2002 and its the same way
You mean transverse instead of sideways?
The engine is transverse mounted as in mostly all FWD based vehicles.
How much MPG do you get?
MosTechHelp I average 19 mpg

Lol dude has never seen a fwd car lol
There’s also a 2.0t option.
Hated Taurus until I got a sweet deal on A black 2013 police interceptor... Lol go figure
Sounds like someone wants a utility...
So do these come this way from the factory from Ford? 😂
I love my ecoboost
